Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 121
Chapter 121 Ghost!
Cheng Xiaoxiao opened her eyes a few more times to make herself wake up.
The moment she saw the large dark bed, she realized it was genuinely Chu Yunshen’s room.
Why was she back here?
Then what about Wan Xia?
Cheng Xiaoxiao could faintly hear voices outside, so she gestured for the baby bird to stay quiet while she pushed against it as she gradually wriggled towards the edge of the bed.
THUD.
“Meow…”
Cheng Xiaoxiao fell so hard that it felt as though her fractures had split open again.
Did they have to make the bed so high?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was lying prone on the ground in agony when she smelled a fragrance before a pair of hands carried her off the ground.
“Did you get hurt?”
A gentle concerned voice came from overhead.
Wan Xia?
What was going on?
Wan Xia carried Cheng Xiaoxiao into the outer room while she was in a daze.
“Your Highness, should we get the doctor to check on her?”
“Give it a minute.”
Chu Yunshen certainly knew Cheng Xiaoxiao the best. In a few seconds, the lion cat started to rub herself against Wan Xia while she was in Wan Xia’s arms and came back to life.
“You can come over in the day daily from now on.”
Chu Yunshen’s words left Cheng Xiaoxiao in such a shock that she forgot to rub herself against Wan Xia and promptly froze.
What on earth was going on?
Wasn’t she supposed to spend some time living with Wan Xia? Not only was she back, but Wan Xia also had to come every day now.
What was Chu Yunshen up to?
Did he have nothing better to do?
“Yes, Your Highness.”
Wan Xia bowed politely and secretly placed her mouth by the lion cat’s ear to say when Chu Yunshen wasn’t looking, “His Highness told me to come by and play with you every day!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao became wrapped in thought when she heard what Wan Xia said.
Did he especially get Wan Xia to keep her company?
She found his gesture sweet when she heard what Wan Xia said.
She did not anticipate such thoughtfulness from Chu Yunshen.
Cheng Xiaoxiao watched in bliss as Wan Xia busied herself taking care of her.
Nothing could beat being surrounded by the people whom Cheng Xiaoxiao loved.
As for the other things that were going on, she didn’t care.
In any case, it was impossible for her to ever figure out what Chu Yunshen was thinking.
Considering Chu Yunshen’s internal energy, he naturally heard Wan Xia whispering to the lion cat. However, he pretended not to know and did not talk about it.
Chu Yunshen kept thinking about what Xiaowu had said recently. He could not help feeling empty looking at the baby bird jumping up and down inside the cage every day.
Did he really have feelings for Wan Xia? Otherwise, why would he keep wanting to go to her quarters?
Perhaps it was time for him to consider having a concubine.
After Chu Yunshen pondered outside Wan Xia’s quarters for a few nights in a row, he was finally enlightened.
Perhaps those strange dreams and his absurd actions would come to an end if he had a woman.
Hence, Cheng Xiaoxiao woke up to find herself in Chu Yunshen’s room when Chu Yunshen had already spoken to Wan Xia.
Wan Xia would be sent over to take care of Cheng Xiaoxiao and Chu Yunshen for now. After they became closer, maybe things would change in the future.
Xiaowu finally got what he wanted.
For the first time in his life, Chu Yunshen did as he suggested.
Chu Yunshen finally got it!
Xiaowu was absolutely touched! He had to do his best working for Chu Yunshen, even if his life was at stake!
Cheng Xiaoxiao yawned in Wan Xia’s arms and narrowed her eyes as she enjoyed all the attention from Wan Xia.
Wan Xia cooled the milk paste with a spoon before feeding it to the lion cat.
It was the perfect image to see a lovely young woman playing with a mischievous and adorable lion cat.
Xiaowu kept looking at them while Chu Yunshen finally managed to calm down enough to read and write.
Everyone finally got what they wanted and officially went about with this new arrangement.
In the distance, the faint sound of a bell could be heard. On the cool misty night, it felt as though anything was possible and no one had a care in the world.
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t even realize when she struck Chu Yunshen’s face with her paws. She even gurgled rhythmically in her sleep while she dreamt.
However, it was poles apart on the mountain in the capital’s suburbs.
It was a pitch-black night and neither the moon nor stars could be seen.
The mountain was completely bare and only some pine trees grew from strange rocks on its stony slopes.
The pine trees looked unusual as well. Typically, pine trees were tall and straight, but the pines on the mountain lay prone on the ground and seemed to come closer to the earth over time.
An occasional silhouette flew past at unusually high speed every now and then.
The autumn wind kept gusting nonstop and everything felt tense.
Despite the barren sight, a fire could be surprisingly seen on the mountain. Faint conversation could be heard as it got carried away by the mountain wind while it roared.
“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Pardon my disturbance all gods and spirits. Please grant me safe passage.”
A shabbily dressed old man walked hunched as he pushed a cart and walked out from nowhere.
.
The mountain was particularly steep. Since it was pitch black in the distance, it was impossible to see the way around. No one knew where the old man suddenly appeared from.
“Uncle Gen, why are you delivering the corpses today? Where are Cheng Gui and Cheng Fu?”
A few brawny men stood by the mounds pouring something over them. All of them were holding a bamboo basket.
A piece of fabric covered over the baskets and a pungent powder was stuck on them.
“Those stupid boys went out gallivanting last night, so I had to come.”
Uncle Gen pushed a cart covered with a straw mat up to the brawny men and stopped. The straw mat was bulging and it was impossible to see what was on it.
“Perhaps they are enjoying themselves at the casino or Piao Xiang Brothel.”
A tall strong man spoke with a lewd expression on his face leaving the rest of the men guffawing.
“Wang Er, just do your job!”
Uncle Gen scolded Wang Er as he worked. He had lifted off the straw mat to shockingly reveal a few bloody corpses on the cart.
“Humph. I would rather they died there altogether and stopped making trouble for me.”
Uncle Gen didn’t want to talk about them visiting prostitutes, so he cut off the conversation and told them to focus on work coldly. “Focus on your work and don’t make trouble. After you are done finding places for the new batch of bodies, you can leave after scattering everything in the baskets.”
“Uncle Gen, why are you so worried?” scoffed Wang Er in disdain at Uncle Gen’s caution. “We do this every day, but nothing has happened. It’s just a bunch of dead bodies.”
“Precisely.” The other brawny men disagreed with Uncle Gen’s caution as well.
“Uncle Gen likes to make a mountain out of a molehill.”
“That’s right. Cheng Gui and Cheng Fu certainly know how to enjoy life. They said that Xiao Taohong from Piao Xiang Brothel was pretty good…” A brawny man beside Wang Er was talking with his eyes glinting while he drooled over the prostitute, but he suddenly looked at higher ground and went quiet.
The rest of them got a little impatient when he suddenly stopped talking mid-sentence.
“Ming Zi, finish your story! Why did you stop?”
“Uh huh! Tell us how good she is.”
“Yes. Go on with your story!”
Everyone kept rushing Ming Zi to talk, but he stood motionlessly as he looked at higher ground.
“Wang Er, did you see that?”
Ming Zi lost all the ease he had when he was talking about the prostitute. Instead, his face was filled with fear while he pulled Wang Er’s hand as he stood beside him.
Wang Er looked in the direction Ming Zi was saying.
“Ahhh!” Wang Er suddenly screamed. After he screamed, he said deeply as he ran back, “I saw it…”
“Wang Er, what’s with the shouting? Are you trying to scare us to death?”
Everyone kept waiting for Ming Zi to go on with the story, but he refused to continue. By the time they heard Wang Er’s screaming and noticed something amiss, Wang Er had already stumbled to the ground.
All of them turned to look in the same direction in unison. The air promptly turned cold and the atmosphere became intense.
A group of people was coming towards them from higher ground.
However, they seemed a little strange as their faces were overly pale and they walked in unison with their arms hanging from the sides as they dragged their feet.
No one visited these unmarked burial grounds in years, so it was particularly scary to suddenly see people appear out of nowhere.
After some time, they finally managed to find their voices.
“Li Erfa, since you have good eyesight, tell us what you can see?”
The man who spoke had a beard covering his face and his voice was already starting to break. Since it was a particularly quiet night, things felt even spookier.
“I think… it’s Cheng Gui and Cheng Fu.” Li Erfa stammered as he spoke.
“W-who are the rest?”
“I don’t know either. What on earth are Cheng Gui and Cheng Fu trying to do?”
The brawny men composed themselves before they talked about it in hushed tones.
Wang Er and Ming Zi couldn’t be bothered talking about it. They just wanted to get off the mountain and run back into the city.
They had already recognized the men with Cheng Gui and Cheng Fu earlier.
The man on Cheng Gui’s left was a man with one broken arm and one blind eye.
Ming Zi could recognize the man.
Ming Zi had just buried the bloke last night. He even talked about the body with Wang Er since it had unusual characteristics.
However, the men they buried were convicts who had died of execution!
Ming Zi could sense his legs shaking and he was incapable of moving an inch even though he wanted to run badly.
“Come on! Run!’
Ming Zi urged the men beside him to leave immediately. the rest of them could not wrap their minds around Ming Zi’s reaction and teased him for being a coward.
Just as Wang Er was about to run, he stumbled and fell. After he finally managed to get up, he helped Ming Zi to convince them to run as well.
“Why are you acting like Uncle Gen?”
The atmosphere lightened up after they teased Ming Zi and Wang Er for their cowardice.
Uncle Gen had already detected something amiss from nearby as the men approached them.
If it was Cheng Gui and Cheng Fu, they would have greeted Uncle Gen, so something seemed awfully wrong.
The men were already approaching them as they walked in steady synchronized steps.
Everyone realized something was wrong with these men without Ming Zi and Wang Er having to say anything as the men approached them.
They kept running forward with an empty look in their eyes.
It was even scarier when they noticed that their eyes were incapable of moving or blinking.
Their chests did not rise and fall whatsoever and it seemed as though they didn’t need to breathe.
Was there any kind of human being who could go on without breathing?
The men scattered in all directions desperately in anxiety.
Some of them even shouted as they ran, “Ghost!
The deserted mountain suddenly went into commotion.
