Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 111
Chapter 111 Summon the women!
Xiaowu kept looking Cheng Xiaoxiao’s way.
“We have set up County Magistrate Chen’s funeral, but his family doesn’t seem too sad.”
The moment Xiaowu recalled County Magistrate Chen’s women, he could not help feeling a headache coming on.
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t know why Xiaowu reacted this way and merely assumed he was poking fun at her appearance now.
Stupid Xiaowu! How dare he make fun of her? She would teach him a lesson the moment she recovered.
Cheng Xiaoxiao glared at Xiaowu angrily. Xiaowu turned his face awkwardly when he recalled the things, he said about Cheng Xiaoxiao earlier.
“After we gave County Magistrate Chen’s concubines some money, they agreed to say that he died of illness.”
“Good. Gather all the women in the residence and send them to see me.”
Did Chu Yunshen want to summon the women?
What did this have to do with the case?
Was he trying to get more details from them?
Even though Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t know the reason behind his decision, she felt he was smart.
Xiaowu always took his orders, even if he did not understand Chu Yunshen’s reasons.
Everything his master said and did must be right.
He mimicked Cheng Xiaoxiao and looked at Chu Yunshen with admiration.
Chu Yunshen was puzzled by their reaction and Cheng Xiaoxiao could see question marks popping up over his head as he stood where he was.
Xiaowu and the lion cat’s admiration had caught Chu Yunshen by surprise.
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t take it to heart. Since everyone was off to work, she went back to sleep.
Perhaps she was so badly injured that she kept feeling giddy, so Cheng Xiaoxiao slept all the way until sundown.
Chu Yunshen had already summoned all the women. He walked back and forth through the crowd a few times to check. The more he looked, the more annoyed he felt.
“Is that all?”
Xiaowu watched as Chu Yunshen’s footsteps gradually became irritable but didn’t know the reason for his mood as he replied, “Master, that’s all the women there are.”
Chu Yunshen did not go on asking. Instead, he acted nonchalant as he checked one more time before he left in silence.
Only Xiaowu was left to handle those women who were interested in getting close to Chu Yunshen.
When they learned that Prince Jing wanted to see them, they were so excited.
They came dressed revealingly with so much perfume that it stung Xiaowu’s eyes so badly he couldn’t open them.
Xiaowu used eloquence to finally convince the determined women to leave.
Even though Chu Yunshen was unable to find the fairy, things were going smoothly for Chu Jinshuo.
His men had returned to the capital successfully and Zhao Yan had quietly returned to Chu Jinshuo’s side.
“Master, it’s all set.”
There was no light in Chu Jinshuo’s bedroom and the only light in the room was from the moon outside the window.
Zhao Yan saw him standing by the window thoughtfully and could not read his mind.
“Where are the accounts?”
“I have personally destroyed them.”
Chu Jinshuo raised his head and laughed suddenly.
“HAHAHAHA! Well done! Since you have done well, I will reward you well.”
“I can’t accept it since it was my job.”
Zhao Yan didn’t dare to take any credit, so he replied reverently.
Chu Jinshuo liked how smart this subordinate was. “Great. Now we are just waiting for one thing to fall in place.”
“Master, I understand.”
Zhao Yan kept his head lowered respectfully as he awaited Chu Jinshuo’s orders.
“How are things with my fourth older brother?”
“Master, he is injured but will be fine.”
“Perfect. I still need him to investigate the case.” Chu Jinshuo seemed to be in a good mood and sounded pleased. “Send a message to Su Ming and tell him to get ready.”
Chu Jinshuo sounded particularly proud. Zhao Yan knew that a tough fight was about to break out, so he naturally didn’t dare to be careless.
He swiftly went out to execute the prince’s orders.
At Chu Yelin’s secondary residence, Su Ming read the letter expressionlessly before he tore it to pieces.
His eyes had lost all color and he was no longer the same charming man at court.
Su Ming stood by himself at the stone table for some time before he gradually composed himself.
He slowly stood up and straightened all the wrinkles that had appeared on his green robe from all these days of tugging.
He looked serious and careful and treated the green robe like the woman he loved.
In the cold autumn air, an imperceptible sigh swept through the air as the last leaf fell from the gingko tree in the yard.
They scattered the moment the wind swept. No one knew where they had gone.
“Winter is here.”
Xiaowu carried a stack of books in the cold wind and walked over.
The moment Cheng Xiaoxiao caught his neck shrinking into his robe coldly, she looked at him in contempt.
She felt that Xiaowu was useless. Even though Chu Yunshen was injured, he didn’t have to wear as many garments and looked as good as ever.
Hearts nearly shot from Cheng Xiaoxiao’s eyes as she looked at Chu Yunshen. However, the things Xiaowu was about to say left her unusually serious.
“Master, we have investigated all the merchants and everything is okay. We have finished going through the accounts as well.” Xiaowu stood before Chu Yunshen and spoke as he secretly glanced at Chu Yunshen’s calligraphy brush.
“Okay.”
Chu Yunshen didn’t look up and focused on his work.
Cheng Xiaoxiao finally realized Chu Yunshen was standing in front of the desk writing or drawing something.
What was he up to?
“Something seems to be wrong with the accounts. Many problems arose when I checked it. Some transactions didn’t even have notes and it was very vague about salt price.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao instantly wanted to hide somewhere and start to eavesdrop and take a look at what Chu Yunshen was doing.
Sadly, her paws were still recovering, so it was exceptionally hard for her to move.
Cheng Xiaoxiao tried to move a few times but to no avail, so she continued lying in bed recuperating while she thought about what Xiaowu had just said.
Judging from what Xiaowu had just said, Chu Yunshen’s investigation was not going smoothly.
Since they couldn’t match the accounts, didn’t it mean there was something wrong with it?
Was it a fake set of accounts?
For time immemorial, corrupt government officials did bad books!
She swiftly pondered as she sorted out the facts.
Hang on. Give her a moment to think.
Chen Fu was killed, the accounts were fake and the deputy minister of revenue had gone missing…
“Master, someone else has spotted Su Ming in the capital suburbs.”
This was shocking news.
Cheng Xiaoxiao stopped thinking.
Her face was filled with surprise as thoughts kept running through her mind.
Hadn’t Su Ming gone missing? Why did he suddenly appear?
Stupid Xiaowu! Couldn’t he say everything in one go?
“Did Su Ming emerge? Things are getting interesting. Xiaowu, set off for the capital.”
Chu Yunshen put the accounts on the table into his sleeve before he picked up the piece of paper in front of him.
Cheng Xiaoxiao watched as he carefully blew the ink dry and studied it briefly before he cautiously scrolled it up and put it away in his chest.
“Hmmm?”
Xiaowu had finally succeeded in seeing the contents of the paper and started to cast weird looks at Chu Yunshen.
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt even more curious.
Why was Xiaowu left in shock?
Cheng Xiaoxiao kept looking at Xiaowu but couldn’t get his attention, so she implored Chu Yunshen instead.
Why was there a slight sense of awkwardness on Chu Yunshen’s face?
Was he feeling shy?
This was insane!
No way. She had to find out why they reacted so strangely about the contents of the paper.
Despite Cheng Xiaoxiao’s grievous injuries, she climbed across the bed with determination just so that she could learn the truth.
Halfway through, Chu Yunshen glanced at her and made Cheng Xiaoxiao sense a chill run down her back.
Xiaowu looked in the same direction as Chu Yunshen.
He saw Cheng Xiaoxiao advancing and refusing to give up. Xiaowu suppressed his urge to ask Chu Yunshen about the contents of the paper and wanted to carry Cheng Xiaoxiao back to her spot.
However, someone surprisingly beat him to it.
It was Chu Yunshen!
Cheng Xiaoxiao was starting to feel giddy when she kept inching forward using her head.
A pair of large hands reached out towards her and Chu Yunshen lifted Cheng Xiaoxiao into his arms.
Cheng Xiaoxiao naturally refused to give up. She used her thickly bandaged paws and did her utmost to pull the paper from Chu Yunshen’s chest.
The more they refused to show it to her, the more her curiosity was piqued.
Chu Yunshen had no clue what Cheng Xiaoxiao was up to and simply wanted to carry her back to the bed.
The piece of paper in his chest certainly did a terrible job at defending itself. Before long, the mischievous Cheng Xiaoxiao had succeeded in pulling it out.
It was a drawing!
Cheng Xiaoxiao clumsily prodded the drawing with her head but Chu Yunshen wanted to pick it up. He was in a dilemma about what to do and afraid that Cheng Xiaoxiao would get hurt.
“Fine. I will open it for you.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao couldn’t help recalling Chu Yunshen’s whining tone in the well when his cold voice suddenly came.
Now that Chu Yunshen had started to open it carefully, Cheng Xiaoxiao stopped fighting for it.
Chu Yunshen even deliberately carried her before the paper.
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t know how to react when she saw the painting and went stunned.
She was in complete shock!
Wait! Wasn’t that her?
Cheng Xiaoxiao froze for a moment before she turned her head away guiltily as she feigned disinterest.
It was a drawing of a young woman. She didn’t wear any hair accessories and her hair was slightly disheveled.
She was dressed in an extraordinary blue dress and looked ethereal and she had a deep gash on her hand.
Chu Yunshen didn’t draw her face in detail and left it as a blurry sketch.
However, he did sketch her eyes and there were large and beautiful and resembled black grapes.
Since Chu Yunshen didn’t mind letting the lion cat see the painting, Xiaowu came over for a look as well.
“Master, who is the girl in the painting?”
Even though Chu Yunshen didn’t answer Xiaowu, Xiaowu seemed as though he had gotten an answer and continued, “Is this the woman you like? Although I haven’t seen her face completely, she looks pure and refined, so she must be an extraordinary woman.”
Although Cheng Xiaoxiao pretended to be nonchalant, she was mad with joy inside!
Xiaowu certainly had good taste!
He could tell even though the painting was incomplete!
Haha! Cheng Xiaoxiao secretly reveled in joy.
Chu Yunshen noticed the lion cat suddenly trembling, so he surprisingly explained, “I suspect that this woman saved me.”
The moment Cheng Xiaoxiao heard him, she felt unprecedentedly shy.
Sure enough, he remembered that she saved him.
She wondered how much he could remember….
It was so embarrassing!
She did not know why, but she was also delighted!
The lion cat trembled even harder. Chu Yunshen even saw her biting the blanket.
“…”
