Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 110
Chapter 110 Who were the men in black?
Before long, Cheng Xiaoxiao had given Chu Yunshen most of the dew on the moss that she could reach while the rest of the moss was unreachable.
Cheng Xiaoxiao could only hug Chu Yunshen gently as she comforted him.
“Shen’er, I’m here for you. I will kiss away your pain…”
Cheng Xiaoxiao kept coaxing Chu Yunshen until she yawned in exhaustion.
She was so tired!
In order to stop herself from sleeping, she made Chu Yunshen lean against herself as she hummed her favorite songs softly.
“I’m a lush mountain you encountered on your way. I only feel free after quietly laying my eyes on you…”
A young woman could be heard singing every now and then in the well. Her voice reverberated through the desolate night and made it feel as though they were the only people left on earth.
Her soft voice soon went quiet and was replaced by a rapid meowing.
The cat’s meows only lasted briefly before the yard reverted to silence.
Chu Yunshen felt as though he had a very long dream.
He dreamt of his mother embracing him and singing some songs that he had never heard of before.
They were strange tunes that were unheard of.
His mother’s face gradually transformed into that of an unknown woman. Her voice was even sweeter than his mother’s.
He could faintly recall that her eyes seemed big and bright and she had tiny hands. She was dressed in a blue dress that gave off an ethereal glow and she had a deep bloody gash in her hands.
After Chu Yunshen regained consciousness, he found himself lying in the county office room on a bed. Also, his lion cat was sleeping deeply near his head.
“Master, you are finally awake!”
Xiaowu was just talking about Chu Yunshen’s injuries with Mu Bai when he heard a sound coming from the bed and ran over quickly.
“If you feel unwell in any way, I will get Mu Bai to examine it.”
“I’m fine.”
Chu Yunshen had just woken up and looked groggy.
Xiaowu couldn’t help feeling worried, so he asked Mu Bai to check Chu Yunshen’s injuries.
Perhaps Chu Yunshen was preoccupied, so he seemed a little distracted. He acted nonchalantly as he asked Xiaowu, “Did you see anyone else when you found me in the well?”
Xiaowu felt puzzled by the question, but he replied, “Master, there was nothing else. Only you and that cat could be found inside the well.”
“Was there a girl dressed in blue?”
Chu Yunshen was never in the habit of harping on a subject or paying attention to a girl.
Xiaowu and Mu Bai had never seen Chu Yunshen like this before. Even though he was injured, he asked about a girl first.
This was simply too strange!
Xiaowu felt puzzled. Even though he wanted to ask, he stopped when he saw Chu Yunshen’s bandages and changed the subject.
“Master, I might be overstepping, but I think you care about the cat too much.”
Mu Bai pulled Xiaowu’s sleeve gently, but Xiaowu refused to stop.
“When we found you, you were unconscious from having a fever and gravely injured. Instead, the cat was unscathed and in deep sleep.”
Xiaowu felt so agitated that it was almost as if he was scolding the lion cat, “Master, how could you disregard your safety for a lion cat?”
Before Xiaowu finished his resentful words, Chu Yunshen shut him up with a stern stare.
“I shouldn’t have gotten nosey. I will go and request for 20 paddles as punishment.”
Xiaowu knelt as he spoke.
Chu Yunshen did not blame him. He turned to squeeze the lion cat’s chubby little face annoyingly.
“I can’t believe you can still sleep after he said that.”
“Quit messing with me! I’m exhausted…”
Cheng Xiaoxiao had spent the entire time talking and singing to Chu Yunshen in the well. She couldn’t help feeling annoyed when Chu Yunshen wanted to mess with her when she had just fallen asleep.
“Meow meow meow…”
Hmm? What was going on?
Cheng Xiaoxiao gradually regained consciousness when she realized she was meowing.
She transformed into cat form again.
Hmm? Had Chu Yunshen regained consciousness?
She finally caught on that Chu Yunshen had regained consciousness. He probably overexerted himself when he stroked her, so he winced from his injuries.
He deserved it for bullying her the moment he woke up.
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt a little angry as she contemplated.
The man did not know better. She was so busy earlier on, but all he cared about was playing with the cat the moment he regained consciousness. Couldn’t he have started by asking her how she was doing?
Despite her anger, Cheng Xiaoxiao placed most of her attention on Chu Yunshen’s injuries.
She jumped into Chu Yunshen’s arms to check his temperature, but she failed to detect the change in environment.
All Chu Yunshen saw was his cat angrily jumping into his arms after she woke up.
Since the fever had just come down, Chu Yunshen had shed his usual sternness and seemed a little pale and vulnerable.
She could not help feeling softhearted and even helped to make an excuse for him.
It wasn’t like he knew about her saving him, so it wasn’t his fault. Also, he was injured from trying to protect her, so she shouldn’t be angry with him.
She wanted to place her paws on Chu Yunshen’s neck but ended up howling in pain when she inadvertently tugged on her injuries.
“MEOW…”
The moment Chu Yunshen heard Cheng Xiaoxiao’s miserable cries, he hurriedly carried her to examine her.
Xiaowu looked up as he knelt on the ground.
“Mu Bai, come over and examine her.”
Hang on. Did he just say Mu Bai?
Cheng Xiaoxiao finally realized that they were no longer inside the well. No wonder it felt different.
Mu Bai? Then what about Xiaowu?
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked around before she caught sight of Xiaowu kneeling on the ground.
Although she was puzzled to see him glaring at her unhappily, she was delighted to see them again.
Cheng Xiaoxiao watched as Mu Bai walked over and looked a lot friendlier than she usually did.
Mu Bai was oblivious about the lion cat’s sudden friendliness. He was accustomed to being a vet.
After he was done examining Cheng Xiaoxiao, he went into shock.
Why did she keep suffering increasingly grave injuries?
“Master, she has fractured her hind leg. The nails on her front paws are broken. There is also a gash on the back of her paw. It’s so deep that it cut right to the bone.”
Xiaowu heard every word Mu Bai said.
Was the lion cat injured as well?
After Cheng Xiaoxiao heard Mu Bai’s diagnosis, she leaned against Chu Yunshen’s arms weakly.
Was she that severely injured?
Chu Yunshen had better remember how good she was to him and make her a feast to nourish her back to health.
Chu Yunshen moved Cheng Xiaoxiao’s head from the wounds on his chest to some other spot and looked at her thoughtfully.
“Dress her wounds first.”
Mu Bai was as skillful as ever with bandaging.
Cheng Xiaoxiao’s front paws were thickly bandaged until they resembled pig trotters while her fractured hind leg was stabilized with a wooden board.
She was still suspicious that Mu Bai was out for revenge since she stole Chu Yunshen’s attention from him.
However, his medication was honestly good stuff. The moment it was applied, she felt a lot better and it seemed to feel nice and cool.
Chu Yunshen watched as the cat in his arms nodded off. She looked adorable when she wanted to doze off.
He strangely recalled a silhouette dressed in blue with blood on her hands when he saw Cheng Xiaoxiao’s bandages.
Chu Yunshen couldn’t help being gentler as he thought about the silhouette.
He found the lion cat a comfortable spot on the bed before he quietly put her down and got up.
By the time Cheng Xiaoxiao woke up again, she noticed that Chu Yunshen wasn’t sleeping beside her. Instead, he was discussing something at the desk with Xiaowu.
“Meow…”
Wasn’t he severely injured? Why didn’t he rest?
How could you keep moving around in the state he was in?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was curious about his amazing speed of recovery, so she ran towards Chu Yunshen to check his wounds without a second thought.
“MEOW!”
She meowed tragically.
Cheng Xiaoxiao could sense excruciating pain in her hind leg, so she stumbled back onto the bed.
“Oh my! Can you please behave?”
Xiaowu swiftly held Cheng Xiaoxiao and carried her back to her spot.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at Chu Yunshen earnestly in the hope that he would carry her.
Chu Yunshen surprisingly saw through her ploy and disregarded her pitiful stares altogether.
“How are things progressing?”
How are things progressing? What things?
Since Cheng Xiaoxiao was unable to get up, she could only prick her ears and pay attention.
“The secret guard is still investigating some people. I am still trying to find out more about some large expenses in the accounts.”
“Keep investigating!”
“Yes, Master.”
“What about the men in black?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt energetic the moment they brought up the men in black.
She really wanted to tell Chu Yunshen what she heard when they were in the well!
She was doing her utmost to gain his attention!
Cheng Xiaoxiao wriggled on the bed like a caterpillar trying to gain Chu Yunshen’s attention, but he was focused on Xiaowu’s report.
“I just wanted to update you about them. According to the secret guard, those men in black were there for Chen Fu.” Xiaowu pulled out a token from his chest as he spoke. “We found this token when we searched their bodies. I suspect now that Chen Fu was caught, his superior must be trying to murder him.”
Chu Yunshen took the token and examined it. The moment he saw the gold embossing on it, Cheng Xiaoxiao saw him laugh profoundly before throwing the token on the table casually.
Cheng Xiaoxiao narrowed her eyes before she finally realized that the seventh prince’s name was on it.
Weren’t they here to investigate the deputy minister of revenue? Hadn’t they suspected that the eighth prince was behind this? What did it have to do with the seventh prince?
Cheng Xiaoxiao was at a loss. However, Chu Yunshen’s words to come left her in astonishment.
“This token is a fake.”
Chu Yunshen’s words caused an explosion. Xiaowu hastily looked up at Chu Yunshen in shock.
“Is it a fake?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao was stunned.
Was he framed?
But how did Chu Yunshen know it was a fake token?
She wanted to scrutinize the token, but she swiftly stopped when she heard what Chu Yunshen said.
“Yelin never liked trumpet creepers.”
What did he mean by that? What were trumpet creepers? Were they flowers? Could they be eaten?
After saying that ambiguous line, Chu Yunshen stopped talking about this. Cheng Xiaoxiao lay in bed and remained puzzled.
As she slowly wrapped her mind around it, their conversation subject had already changed.
“Don’t worry. The murder of County Magistrate Chen has been taken care of.”
The moment Xiaowu said it was handled, Cheng Xiaoxiao imagined Xiaowu carrying Chen Fu’s corpse and discarding it in the wilderness.
“The secret guard has already suppressed the news, so it definitely won’t get leaked.”
Xiaowu was trying to finish reporting, but he couldn’t help getting distracted by the look on Cheng Xiaoxiao’s face.
