Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 104
Chapter 104 To Jin City
Even though Chu Yunshen ignored Cheng Xiaoxiao, he secretly observed Cheng Xiaoxiao’s every move with his head lowered.
He watched as Cheng Xiaoxiao ran over to appease him by acting adorable and apologizing hard in front of him.
Despite keeping up a straight face, he softened up on her quite a bit.
Sure enough, he couldn’t expect the cat to be patient. Fortunately, she made an attempt to appease him.
Chu Yunshen sighed inaudibly as he shook his head helplessly.
He resigned himself to this fate as he carried Cheng Xiaoxiao and placed her in his arms comfortably.
Chu Yunshen was surprised by his instincts. When did he start caring about the cat so much?
The moment he recalled Cheng Xiaoxiao sneaking out to hang out with Chu Hongyi, Chu Yunshen felt angry.
Even though he cared about the cat so much, she was friendly with anyone who gave her food.
Chu Yunshen naturally refused to admit that he was upset that Cheng Xiaoxiao had friends other than him. However, his grip on Cheng Xiaoxiao tightened a little.
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt awful, but she didn’t dare to struggle out of fear that it might trigger Chu Yunshen.
Chu Yunshen almost instantly sensed Cheng Xiaoxiao’s discomfort, so he hurriedly loosened his hands and stroked her.
Since Chu Yunshen eased up on the cat, Xiaowu boldly reminded him, “Master, it seems she snuck out again today. Shall I send someone to notify Miss Wan Xia, so that she doesn’t have to worry? After all, she has been very good with the cat.”
That was the last thing he should have brought up.
Although Chu Yunshen had always been wary of Wan Xia, his attitude towards her had changed through her interaction with Cheng Xiaoxiao.
After all, even if she was up to no good, she would never harm an animal since she was a woman.
His cat was particularly popular and Wan Xia seemed to adore her too.
Also, the cat usually couldn’t be bothered by anyone else and only treated Wan Xia differently. That was the reason he left the cat in Wan Xia’s care.
However, she unexpectedly kept hanging out with Chu Hongyi repeatedly!
She was such an ingrate!
Chu Yunshen’s face turned sullen as he fantasized about this lion cat running off with Chu Hongyi entirely.
Chu Yunshen suppressed his fury and said deeply. “Don’t be nosey. You may leave!”
“Yes, Master.” Xiaowu could sense the chilliness in Chu Yunshen’s words and couldn’t help trembling before taking his leave.
Cheng Xiaoxiao slept like a baby after feasting today, but Chu Yunshen kept tossing and turning and was incapable of sleeping.
The justice department was unable to find Su Ming and it seemed as though he had disappeared into thin air.
Su Ming was unmarried. His only kin was his elderly mother, but she had disappeared over half a month ago. However, Xiaowu discovered that Su Ming had met up with a few rich merchants, prefecture magistrates, and provincial magistrates who were posted to Jin City’s vicinity at a restaurant on the day he disappeared.
Chu Yunshen had already given Xiaowu the order to visit Jin City for further investigation.
He was only worried about where to send Cheng Xiaoxiao while he was away.
If nothing happened recently, he would certainly have left Cheng Xiaoxiao in Wan Xia’s care.
However, Cheng Xiaoxiao’s behavior on the corridor was a blatant reminder of how she kept sneaking off in the past two days. Chu Yunshen felt absolutely annoyed.
Chu Yunshen couldn’t help thinking about how proud Chu Hongyi was of being friends with the cat.
Chu Yunshen lay in bed thinking for a long time before he finally decided that he was too worried about Cheng Xiaoxiao.
If he didn’t take her along with him on the trip, she might end up running off with his 14th little brother and it wouldn’t be worth it.
……
The next day, Cheng Xiaoxiao was roused by the sound of horses.
By the time she had woken up, Chu Yunshen already traveled for almost half a day with the cat in his arms.
Also, they had already entered Jin City’s borders and we’re heading to the provincial magistrate’s office.
“Master, everything has been done according to your orders. I have told everyone that you are unwell. The secret guard has concealed your presence from people in Jin City, so they won’t catch wind of your trip.”
Xiaowu reported the situation to Chu Yunshen through the blinds with an inconsistent volume and sounded surreal.
“Okay.”
Chu Yunshen pursed his lips and concentrated on playing with the cat.
Since Chu Yunshen was now an expert at playing with her, Cheng Xiaoxiao gave up retaliating, succumbed to her cat instincts, and lay down on his knees to enjoy the service.
“Yes, Master,” acknowledged Xiaowu before he went off to execute Chu Yunshen’s plans with the secret guard. He could not wrap his mind around what Chu Yunshen was doing.
The things that Chu Yunshen did were always unfathomable.
Why did he start by investigating an insignificant county magistrate? Wouldn’t it be easier if Chu Yunshen went straight to the prefecture magistrate quietly and sent for the county magistrate to come over? Why bother doing this?
Chu Yunshen was unaware of Xiaowu’s complaints. Now that he was done listening to Xiaowu’s report, he continued to mess around with the cat on his knees
Cheng Xiaoxiao went dizzy when he kept rubbing her head, so she hastily meowed loudly as she struggled.
She glared at Chu Yunshen when she saw her loose fur floating down.
She was going to go bald if he kept it up!
“You are pushing your owner around!” Chu Yunshen looked at the displeasure in her eyes and raised his brow. His sternness had diminished a lot.
“Meow!”
Please take this cocky man away from her!
Cheng Xiaoxiao raised her paw and was about to strike Chu Yunshen’s hand as they landed on her.
Chu Yunshen didn’t rub her too hard and merely switched hands and continued playing with the cat leisurely.
However, Cheng Xiaoxiao unexpectedly blocked his hand. Her paw and his hand halted in mid-air.
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at Chu Yunshen furiously and seemed to be telling him to bug off and let her rest!
Chu Yunshen couldn’t suppress his laughter from the hilarious sight.
Why did the cat have such vivid expression?
Even though he was wrapped in deep thought, he didn’t stop harassing Cheng Xiaoxiao’s paw. It never occurred to him how soft her paw pads were.
Chu Yunshen couldn’t help taking interest when he sensed how soft they were.
He grabbed Cheng Xiaoxiao’s paws unexpectedly and studied her pink fleshy paw pads before he suddenly squeezed her claws.
Her claws surprisingly extended outwards!
Why did her claws come out?
For the first time, Chu Yunshen’s lovely eyes were filled with perplexity, and felt intrigued by the cat’s paws.
Chu Yunshen wanted to examine them more, but Cheng Xiaoxiao pulled her paws back impatiently.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was very angry!
Chu Yunshen kept bullying her the entire way that she had yet to take a close look at the delicacies that Jin City had to offer. All she could do was smell the food.
Cheng Xiaoxiao glared at Chu Yunshen motionlessly and refused to look away even when her eyes became sore.
She had to express her displeasure in one way or another. Since she was unable to speak, she had to use her eyes!
Jin City lived up to its name as one of the richest areas in the district, so Cheng Xiaoxiao was understandably angry.
Despite the soaring salt prices, the citizens didn’t seem affected, so Jin City was far wealthier than other districts.
Xiaowu kept looking at the food earnestly as he rode on the horse up ahead.
Since Xiaowu was Prince Jing’s special guard, he had no other flaws except gluttony.
However, that couldn’t be considered a problem, right?
Just as Cheng Xiaoxiao said: It was good fortune that they could eat! Something must be wrong if one does not eat with enthusiasm.
Both sides of the road were filled with hawkers and merchants. Fried skewers, wanton, buns, braised meat, cakes along with baskets filled with delectable fruits and vegetables lined the streets.
The merchant carried a box of goods on his shoulder as he shouted his wares with a bright voice in the crowd. Rouge for the ladies. Pen, ink, paper, and inkstone for scholars. Silk from the South and wool from the North.
Xiaowu laughed when he heard about the wide array of goods the merchant had.
The moment the carriage gradually stopped, Xiaowu jumped off the horse nimbly.
“Master, we have arrived at the county magistrate’s office.”
Chu Yunshen stopped teasing Cheng Xiaoxiao and pulled her into his arms and patted her head perfunctorily.
“Come on. Let’s go meet the county magistrate.”
Chu Yunshen walked over unhurriedly with Cheng Xiaoxiao in his arms. However, he was unexpectedly stopped by the guard at the entrance the moment he approached it.
“Stop right there! This is no place for a common citizen!”
“How dare you?” Xiaowu strode over and presented Prince Jing’s token.
The moment the guard caught sight of Prince Jing’s name on the token, his face instantly paled as he knelt to apologize, “I am so sorry. I didn’t know that Prince Jing was coming…”
Xiaowu bent over to help the guard up and interrupted him, “Don’t bother. His Highness doesn’t like drawing attention.”
The guard trembled as he wiped the cold sweat from his brow and turned to go in and announce Prince Jing’s arrival.
However, Chu Yunshen walked past them and headed straight into the main hall with Xiaowu following behind him.
In the blink of an eye, only the guard was left at the entrance.
Despite the minor commotion outside, the advisor, Zhang San, heard it. The moment he faintly heard Prince Jing’s name, he knew that something was amiss.
His boss had just received secret correspondence yesterday from their higher-ups telling him that the fourth prince we’ll be investigating the matter and advised him to be vigilant. Why did Prince Jing suddenly turn up at their tiny little county?
Zhang San was about to send word to the county magistrate quickly but ran right into Xiaowu.
Xiaowu smiled as he looked at Zhang San and said quizzically, “Advisor Zhang, where do you think you’re going?”
Before Zhang San could make an excuse, Chu Yunshen said distantly, “Where is your boss?”
Xiaowu noticed that Zhang San remained standing where he was in shock without saying a word, so he couldn’t help hurrying him, “Tsk. Can’t you hear His Highness talking to you?”
Zhang San snapped out of his daze and headed towards the county magistrate’s study unsteadily as he replied with his voice trembling, “My apologies, Your Highness. This way, please.”
Sadly, the county magistrate of Jin City, Chen Fu, had no clue of Prince Jing’s arrival and was busy trying to deal with a huge problem!
He had been unable to get in touch with Su Ming recently, so he was fretting over how to send his secret correspondence out and was oblivious of the huge trouble he was in.
Chu Yunshen carried Cheng Xiaoxiao as he opened the county magistrate’s study door unhurriedly with Xiaowu and the others behind him.
“How dare you! Who dares barge into the county magistrate’s office?” The county magistrate was so preoccupied and anxious that he shouted to the door without even looking.
“You certainly are bold. Don’t you even recognize Prince Jing?”
County magistrate Chen was so audacious that he didn’t even greet Prince Jing.
Xiaowu asked expressionlessly, “County Magistrate Chen, were you so busy with work recently that you have gotten giddy?”
The county magistrate raised his head to see that it was Chu Yunshen and hurriedly stood up and stepped forward to greet him.
“My apologies! Please spare me! I am getting on my age, so I got confused and saw wrongly and offended you. I am so sorry.” Even though the county magistrate was bowing with his head lowered, the sweat on his forehead didn’t escape Chu Yunshen’s eyes.
