Lose My Heart to the Lovely Kitten Princess - Chapter 100
Chapter 100 Don’t cry my friend
Cheng Xiaoxiao gestured for Chu Yunshen to stop before she jumped down and walked over to Wan Xia.
Wan Xia could sense a warm furry cat rubbing her hand as though she was comforting her.
“Meow…” Cheng Xiaoxiao wanted to tell her to stop crying and hug her. She leaned against Wan Xia intimately and didn’t want to leave.
Wan Xia raised her head to look at Chu Yunshen pitifully without daring to touch Cheng Xiaoxiao.
Chu Yunshen saw the cat’s behavior and couldn’t help feeling upset.
Despite his kindness towards her, the ingrate got along with anyone who gave her food and was far friendlier to people other than him.
Wan Xia didn’t dare to move without Chu Yunshen’s order. Her eyes were red and slightly swollen, so she must have cried for a long time.
Cheng Xiaoxiao couldn’t help feeling guilty and rubbed Wan Xia’s arm even harder.
Wan Xia finally couldn’t bear it and furtively looked at Chu Yunshen before she secretly stroked the cat’s furry head.
She smiled discreetly and seemed comforted by Cheng Xiaoxiao.
Chu Yunshen saw their interaction as he sat nearby and his heart turned soft.
Since Wan Xia genuinely liked the cat, she didn’t seem entirely useless.
“Rise! Stop kneeling.” Chu Yunshen seemed as though he finally noticed Wan Xia’s presence and waved his hand as he told her to stand.
“Thank you, Your Highness.” Wan Xia stood up without a word of complaint and bowed to Chu Yunshen and said, “You handed the cat to me out of trust, but she ended up running out and causing chaos in the residence and made you worried. It happened on my watch because I was careless.”
Chu Yunshen reverted to his usual poker face and said nothing, other than gesturing for her to return Cheng Xiaoxiao to him.
“It was my fault, so I am here to await punishment.”
Wan Xia wasn’t annoyed by Chu Yunshen. She picked up Cheng Xiaoxiao and stroked Cheng Xiaoxiao’s back before handing her to Chu Yunshen carefully like he asked.
“Can I ask for you to spare the cat of punishment?”
Although Chu Yunshen’s face remained expressionless, he thought in his heart, “Was she thinking about helping the little fellow get away with it even now?”
It seemed as though Wan Xia failed to detect the look on Chu Yunshen’s face. Instead, she said, “She has a lively personality, so I took her out for a walk, but ended up carelessly losing her. I accept punishment wholly, but please don’t punish her.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt dazed by her apologizes but finally realized what Wan Xia was driving at.
Was Wan Xia trying to shoulder the blame for her? She was a true friend!
Chu Yunshen was a lot calmer in comparison to how touched Cheng Xiaoxiao felt.
Since he tended to be distant, Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t count on him to forgive her and Wan Xia.
However, Chu Yunshen’s reaction was completely unexpected this time. “Stop trying to speak up for her. I know what she is like.”
Just as Cheng Xiaoxiao contemplated what Chu Yunshen meant by this, Chu Yunshen stroked her head and said, “Don’t worry. I won’t hold you accountable for this, so you will continue taking care of her. If history repeats itself, you are incapable of shouldering responsibility. Do you understand?”
Cheng Xiaoxiao grasped what he was trying to do.
Chu Yunshen was being both strict and forgiving. It was his style to do something like this!
Wan Xia looked straight at Chu Yunshen in disbelief when she heard his almost gentle voice while Xiaowu opened his eyes wide and did the same.
“Thank you, Your Highness.” Wan Xia smiled and bowed to Chu Yunshen when she composed herself.
Wan Xia bit her lower lips as she contemplated before she finally asked. “Your Highness, I have another favor to ask.”
Chu Yunshen remained calm with barely any change in his expression. He only stroked the cat’s white fur every now and then. “What?”
“I made fish soup, so do you mind letting the cat have some? She usually gets hungry at this time of the day, so she should be hungry now…” Wan Xia’s voice became increasingly soft and looked as though she was making an unreasonable demand.
Prince Jing had just spared her, but she made such a request.
Chu Yunshen finally raised his head to scrutinize the woman in front of him before he eventually said, “Okay.”
Chu Yunshen lowered his head and continued stroking the cat in his arms. He added when he heard Wan Xia clearly heave a sigh of relief, “You can feed her before you leave.”
“Thank you, Your Highness!” Wan Xia sounded even more joyful when he thanked him and sounded sincere.
Chu Yunshen contemplated as Wan Xia patiently deboned the fish and cooled the soup for Cheng Xiaoxiao.
The woman seemed thoughtful about his pet.
Some people kept his cat at arm’s length, Prince Xuan was overly close and Xiaowu and the others even flattered the cat, but Wan Xia seemed to be real friends with her.
Chu Yunshen was having trouble investigating the salt case. Su Ming had gone missing and he didn’t know who he was last in contact with before it happened.
He definitely had to personally investigate the matter. Since his eighth younger brother was involved, the investigation was bound to get tough.
Chu Yunshen was worried someone might take the opportunity to make trouble, so he couldn’t let the cat go out.
It seemed this woman would be useful to keep around. That way, he wouldn’t have to worry about Cheng Xiaoxiao.
After much consideration, Chu Yunshen’s opinion of Wan Xia gradually changed.
He bathed the cat after dinner and went to bed.
Since Chu Yunshen had a lot on his mind, Cheng Xiaoxiao escaped punishment.
The night passed without any conversation. By the time Cheng Xiaoxiao woke up, it was already the next morning.
She was sent to Wan Xia’s quarters again.
Since Cheng Xiaoxiao was caught red-handed yesterday, she thought Wan Xia would obey Chu Yunshen and be strict with her today.
However, Wan Xia unexpectedly smiled as she bent over to pick up Cheng Xiaoxiao while she contemplated how to run out.
“Do you want to sneak out again?”
Oh god! Did Wan Xia know her so well now?
Cheng Xiaoxiao felt a little anxious.
Wan Xia probably wouldn’t let her out. Considering how well-behaved she was, she probably wouldn’t dare to go against Chu Yunshen’s orders.
“Okay. You can go ahead and sneak out after I leave later!” Wan Xia stroked Cheng Xiaoxiao’s ears like Chu Yunshen did.
Cheng Xiaoxiao just knew she wouldn’t agree to it.
Cheng Xiaoxiao lay down on the chair disappointedly.
Hang on! Did Wan Xia say she could go out?
Cheng Xiaoxiao hastily raised her head in disbelief and looked at Wan Xia for her to affirm this.
Wan Xia smiled even more brightly when she saw how adorable the cat was. “Uh huh. You can go out later, but you have to promise to come back before sundown. Don’t come home late like you did yesterday.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao nodded swiftly. She lunged onto Wan Xia and rubbed her skirt hard.
Despite her obedient appearance, Wan Xia ended up rather rebellious.
Cheng Xiaoxiao certainly liked it!
Haha! Wan Xia was the best!
Cheng Xiaoxiao happily expressed her affection for Wan Xia. Since her head was lowered, she failed to detect the fleeting moment of disgust in Wan Xia’s eyes.
Cheng Xiaoxiao quickly went to the rockery, where Chu Hongyi had already waited for a long time.
She recalled how he almost made Chu Yunshen skin her alive last night when she saw how groggy Chu Hongyi looked, so she wanted to play a prank on him.
She walked up behind Chu Hongyi furtively before she howled at the top of her lungs…
“AHHH!!!” Chu Hongyi was so startled that he almost fell off the rockery.
Fortunately, barely anyone came by here. Otherwise, someone was bound to see them.
“Oh my! How could you scare me like that?” Chu Hongyi steadied himself as he patted his heart with one hand. It felt as though his heart nearly popped out of his chest. “Where are we going to catch ghosts today? Then we can pick up on your feast yesterday.”
Even though she succeeded with the prank, she felt guilty when she saw Chu Hongyi’s reaction.
Chu Hongyi didn’t bear grudges and genuinely had a sweet personality. Cheng Xiaoxiao wondered who would end up dating the boy.
Cheng Xiaoxiao pondered before she started writing with her paw. She was bound to grow a callus on her paw one day, so she should wrap it with some cloth before she wrote with it in the future.
“Let’s find a place with a lot of ghosts. After I capture enough ghosts, I can take human form and feast.”
Cheng Xiaoxiao contemplated before she added, “It must have a lot of ghosts. The more, the merrier! I can sustain human form for a longer time if I have more spirit energy.”
Chu Hongyi went into deep thought for a long time after seeing what Cheng Xiaoxiao wrote.
“Meow!”
She knew just the place. After Cheng Xiaoxiao contemplated hard, she wrote a new message and pointed at the sand to Chu Hongyi.
“Let’s go to the palace!”
It made sense for Cheng Xiaoxiao to think this way.
After all, her jade pendant kept glowing when she went past a few places in the palace on her way to see imperial consort Zhao. She didn’t have time to check in detail previously. Since Chu Hongyi was around, it was the perfect opportunity to check them out.
Chu Hongyi and Cheng Xiaoxiao wasted no time after they decided on a place to go.
He reached his hand out and wanted to carry Cheng Xiaoxiao over the wall, but she swiftly refused.
That went without saying! She was a cat and the dog hole was right before her, so she would rather take the dog hole.
It was so tiring to climb over the wall.
Chu Hongyi was thoroughly impressed by Cheng Xiaoxiao’s escape route.
He was dumbstruck when he saw Cheng Xiaoxiao wriggle out of the dog hole and a thought finally dawned on him.
“Does this mean you weren’t waiting here for me when I visit you? You were planning on sneaking out from this dog hole to have a feast, right? Did you always sneak out this way? You are such a genius, Xiaoxiao!”
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at him like he was an idiot and treated him with contempt.
Chu Hongyi knew he was asking for it. He forcibly smiled before heading to the palace with Cheng Xiaoxiao.
Every building in the palace looked as grand as before.
Perhaps because Cheng Xiaoxiao could see spirits, she felt that despite the strong sun, the palace felt lifeless and lacked vitality.
Cheng Xiaoxiao had visited the Forbidden Palace before, but this palace was nothing like the Qing Dynasty palace.
Cheng Xiaoxiao was at a loss as she studied the layout of the palace.
She could only follow the jade pendant’s lead and get Chu Hongyi to take her wherever it pointed.
Chu Hongyi softly explained where they were as they walked. All the palace servants and maids found it odd that Cheng Xiaoxiao would talk to the cat in his arms.
It was taboo to see or hear things that weren’t meant for their eyes and ears in the palace.
Hence, everyone focused on their work and pretended to see nothing as they humbly paid respects to Chu Hongyi.
