Longevity starts from having a daughter in old age - Chapter 274
Chapter 274: Chapter 243 Hunter_1
“There are people!”
Xu Mu’s ears pricked up, and he heard voices coining from a short distance away.
Though the voices were very soft, his hearing was so keen that he could hear them clearly.
With Celestial Intent, he found that the speakers were two mountain folk disguised as hunters.
The two were one old and one young. The older one appeared to be in his thirties, with dark skin and a steady demeanor. The younger one looked about fifteen or sixteen, with bright eyes that sparkled with wit.
Not far from them was a colossal wild boar with brown fur, rooting for food in the decaying leaves, its massive bulk weighing at least four to five hundred pounds.
“Hmm? This boar seems off. It appears these two are about to be in trouble.”
Through his Celestial Intent, he discovered that this enormous brown wild boar had a slight flow of Spiritual Power inside, indicating that it was not a regular beast, but a Monster Beast.
Despite it being low-ranked, it was not something two ordinary people could handle.
Xu Mu’s eyes flickered, and he walked in the direction of the two persons.
“Uncle, why hasn’t it come yet?”
Chen Qingshan, hidden in the shrubbery, said anxiously.
They had been hunting for three days, and if they did not catch any game, their supplies would run out, forcing them to return.
He had begged his uncle, Chen Ying, to take him hunting and did not want their first trip to result in empty hands.
“How many times have I told you to be patient! Before the game enters the trap, you can’t make the slightest move!”
Chen Ying was repeating his advice to Chen Qingshan while he watched the every move of the wild boar closely.
Looking at the brown wild boar, Chen Qingshan’s thick eyebrows knitted into a frown. His years of experience hunting prodded a sense of unease within him.
He had certainly killed wild boars of this size before, but this one gave him a different feeling.
However, Chen Qingshan’s anxiety seemed to have affected him too.
Taking his nephew hunting for the first time, if they were to return empty- handed, he indeed would lose face. Besides, his family urgently needed money, and hunting this wild boar would save them a great deal.
All these considerations led him to ignore his anxiety and continue with the hunt.
“Perhaps I’m overthinking. I’ve hunted in this forest for years and have never encountered any problems. This time should be no different!”
Chen Ying thought it was Chen Qingshan’s presence that made him worry more.
So, both of them waited quietly.
The brown wild boar, drawn by the food they had scattered, was steadily approaching the trap.
It was a pit that they had dug with significant effort, filled with sharp wooden spikes. Once the wild boar fell in, its thick skin would not save it from death.
For safety, the duo had also laid many lasso traps around the pit. In their hands were stout bows, with specially made poison arrows nocked ready. As soon as the wild boar was struck with a poison arrow, it would soon be anesthetized and lose its resistance.
Under the duo’s watch, the unsuspecting wild boar drew near the trap, slipped, and plunged forward.
“Strike!”
With Chen Ying’s low growl, two sharp arrows flew towards the wild boar’s buttocks.
Although the arrows did not penetrate the wild boar’s skin, the slight pain was enough to stimulate it, causing it to instinctively lunge forward.
The next moment, with a splash, the wild boar fell into the pit entirely.
“We did it!”
Chen Qingshan was delightfully surprised, getting up to rush over to the pit.
In his mind, given the depth of the pit, the wild boar had no chance of escape even if it fell in, especially as it would be impaled by the numerous spikes.
“Don’t go there!”
At this moment, Chen Ying suddenly called out to stop Chen Qingshan.
Chen Qingshan instinctively stopped in his tracks.
“Uncle, what’s wrong?” Chen Qingshan turned around and asked doubtfully.
“Just now…”
As Chen Ying was speaking, his eyes suddenly widened as if he had seen something unbelievable.
“Run!”
Chen Ying shouted loudly, nocking an arrow and aiming at the space behind Chen Qingshan.
“Roar!”
A deafening roar came from behind Chen Qingshan. The roar made his head spin, and he instinctively turned to see. The brown wild boar that had just fallen into the pit had, improbably, climbed out and was now standing by the trap, snorting white breath from its long snout, its eyes glowing red as it fixed him with its gaze.
The next moment, the wild boar roared and charged at Chen Qingshan.
Simultaneously, the arrow Chen Ying had shot landed on the wild boar. A faint yellow glow flashed on the boar’s body.
With a ‘puff,’ the arrow hit the light and was deflected, ricocheting off as if it had hit a wall. It did not affect the wild boar at all.
“Monster beast!”
The thought flashed through Chen Qingshan’s mind. He instinctively dodge to the side, narrowly avoiding the wild boar’s charge.
The tree behind him was not so lucky – it was snapped from the roots by the impact.
After a flash of yellow light, the monstrous wild boar turned out to be unscathed.
It turned and charged again. His speed was faster this time, and Chen Qingshan’s attempt to escape was unsuccessful. A mere graze of the wild boar’s body hurled him away as though he were a rag doll.
Chen Qingshan’s body hit the ground with a thud. He convulsed a bit and then remained still, unconscious or possibly dead.
“Chen Qingshan! You beast!!!”
Chen Ying roared in anger. His eyes were bloodshot, and he kept firing arrows at the wild boar as if they were free.
Unfortunately, these ordinary hunting arrows were no match for the beast. The wild boar disregarded them entirely and continued to charge at Chen Qingshan.
“Beast! Stop hurting people!”
An elder in a green robe descended from the sky and snorted coldly. With a pat on the pouch around his waist, he released a golden light that instantly pierced the wild boar.
