Chapter 646.1: Overcoming the Quandary (1)
At the highest point in the sky, Alicia Ascart, shrouded in brilliant moonlight, gazed at the ongoing battle beneath. She was gathering her mana with an impassive expression, but her heart was nowhere near as calm as she looked.
She knew that this battle had happened because of her.
Carolyn’s goal was her and her alone.
Despite being affected by the Savior’s power, Carolyn had told Roel to leave before the battle. Had Roel done as he was told, he wouldn’t have had a conflict with this ridiculously powerful woman, let alone gotten into a fight with her.
For that reason, Alicia had set a goal for herself.
I have to protect Lord Brother. I can’t let him get hurt.
From the moment she made this decision, she knew that she would have to settle this battle by herself. The problem was that she needed some time.
Looking at the split ocean and sky, as well as Saint Dragon Spansderck, who emitted boundless light and life force, Alicia slowly narrowed her eyes. She hated to admit it, but that ancient god was formidable.
As powerful as Divine Domains were, they were still spells. No spell was unbreachable in this world. If not for Roel curbing Saint Dragon Spansderck, Alicia’s Divine Domain would have been shaken by its attack, thus stopping her from activating the Black Moon.
But that was exactly the reason she was unnerved.
Curbing the aggression of such a powerful ancient god was bound to put Roel under immense pressure. She was oblivious to Grandar’s background, so she didn’t know if the skeleton giant could stand its ground against Spansderck.
In terms of auras, the skeleton giant reminiscent of a demonic god was on par with the Saint Dragon representing light and life, which was evident from the clearly split sky and ocean.
But from the memories from the Mother Goddess, Alicia knew that Spansderck was revered as the Dragons’ hero, whereas she only knew Grandar as a distant ally of the Savior. It was hard for her to imagine that Grandar would truly be on par with Spansderck.
She nervously grabbed her left arm, suppressing her urge to prematurely intervene in the battle before her means were ready.
After seconds of standstill, Roel’s and Carolyn’s most trusted ancient gods finally clashed.
“Graaarr!”
Spansderck unleashed a deafening dragon roar that raised huge waves in the ocean and shook the sky like a tangible wave, only stopping when it struck the white fog shrouding the giant in the distance.
Taken aback by its prowess, Roel narrowed his eyes.
Spansderck unfurled its thousand-meter-long wings that emitted a golden luster. The thousands of light pillars gushing up from the sea converged on the Saint Dragon, like it was a sponge soaking up a sea.
On the other hand, Grandar raised his hand, and crimson lightning surged from his body to his raised fist. The white fog thinned, revealing the cataclysmic force he had channeled.
Both parties had tacitly chosen to channel all of the power they could mobilize.
A furious storm stirred above the ocean as an epic showdown unfolded.
The aloft Spansderck suddenly folded its wings and released a powerful beam of golden light that sliced through the sea and plunged toward the skeleton giant like a sword from heaven.
The brilliant light illuminated Roel’s composed face.
Above him, Grandar hurled his fist, unleashing his rage and crimson lightning that had filled half of this Divine Domain.
Boom!
A blinding light flooded the surroundings, accompanied by a rattling explosion that threatened to burst the eardrum. Thanks to Grandar’s protection, neither the shockwave nor the light could get anywhere close to Roel, but the sea and the sky weren’t as fortunate.
The intense clash had raised waves over a hundred meters tall, and patches of mana vacuum appeared in the sky. The rumbling lightning and furious waves looked as if the end of the world had arrived.
Grandar’s crimson lightning dispersed the golden light, but the white fog shrouding him thinned as well. However, things weren’t over yet.
The dispersed golden light suddenly converged once more to form a massive dragon silhouette.
“!”
The dragon silhouette instantaneously turned corporeal, and Spansderck appeared at Grandar’s flank. Spansderck unhesitatingly swiped its glowing sharp claws at the Giant Sovereign, inflicting an immense force capable of even tearing down mountains.
A loud explosion followed. The Giant Sovereign’s right shoulder and chest were pressed downward.
In this critical situation, Grandar narrowed his eyes. Instead of protecting himself, he gathered his strength in his left fist and hurled it forth with a roar. He had chosen to counterattack.
Boom!
Crimson lightning flashed across the sky. Grandar’s humongous fist smashed into Spansderck like heaven’s hammer, crushing its arm before plowing toward its chest.
Spansderck roared in response. Its scales rose, and a golden light gushed forth to block Grandar’s punch.
However, Grandar’s fist couldn’t be stopped that easily. The fist pushed through and inflicted a huge tear on Spansderck’s chest, and golden blood splattered like rain. The Saint Dragon was forced to hurriedly retreat.
Even so, this wilful counterattack cost Grandar his right shoulder and some of his rib cage.
Saint Dragon Spansderck stared at its broken arm and smashed chest, its eyes narrowing in shock. It had been many years since it was last injured by a landbound creature. It looked at the skeleton giant before it and said in human tongue, “I didn’t expect to be wounded by you. Tell me your name, giant.”
“Grandar.”
“Spansderck.”
The two Sovereigns solemnly offered their names.
Grandar’s body emitted huge puffs of steam as his bones reverted to their previous condition. Similarly, Spansderck’s body also regenerated with a golden glow.
Both sides had sustained injuries in that quick showdown, but those injuries didn’t diminish the two legendary Sovereigns’ fighting will and desire to win.
Above the ocean, overpowered punches with the power to smash mountains and sharp claws that ripped the land into two crossed each other. It would have been a calamity if this battle had not happened in Alicia’s Divine Domain.
As Grandar’s and Spansderck’s contractors, Roel and Carolyn channeled their mana into them, hoping that their companions could claim the upper hand.
Immense pressure suddenly exploded from the sky, and those clashing on the main battlefield felt a lurch in their hearts. Roel didn’t sustain any actual damage, but Carolyn found herself shrouded in almost tangible moonlight.
“This…”
Feeling the swelling mana in the sky, Carolyn raised her head and saw Alicia standing before the silver moon with crimson eyes.
“It’s over.”
Alicia finally made her move after a long wait. The Black Moon replaced the silver moon and descended to the ground.
