Chapter 612.2: Monopolization of Human Rights (2)
These children might really murder me if I push any further. I should quickly rein it in now since I have already achieved my goal anyway, Antonio thought with a bitter smile.
He first glanced at Friedrich, who looked back at him with eyes brimming with gratitude despite not saying a word, followed by Holy Eminence John, who nonchalantly looked away as if to say he wanted no part of this. In the end, he sighed and nodded.
“I understand. Let’s keep the plan to this for now. However, I hope that you can show some results as soon as possible.”
“R-results?”
“…”
“Thank you for your understanding. We’ll work hard,” Lilian concluded the negotiation as the representative of the four.
Antonio and the other two old men left the tent one after another, leaving Roel behind with the four vigilant women.
Indeed, Roel was in the room all this while, but he failed to get a word in despite being the person at the center of it all. He was too flabbergasted to do so.
Huh? What’s going on? Are the four of you monopolizing my mating rights?! Are you treating me like a breeding stallion right now?!
His mind was filled with retorts after having witnessed the negotiation process in person, though he had no objections to the outcome. He had no intention of becoming a stallion, but it would be hard for him to turn down Antonio’s plan when he had humankind’s welfare at heart.
In a sense, Lilian had dealt with the situation much better than he could.
But as soon as the matter was sealed, Nora and the others began to feel nervous once more. They understood the importance of the Kingmaker Bloodline to humankind, and they knew that Antonio could change his mind if they failed to bear results.
This pressure fanned their anxiety.
The moment Antonio was out the door, Charlotte stepped forward and said, “I believe it’s my turn to guard him tonight, right?”
With determined eyes, she chased everyone out and got to work.
…
Roel let out a deep exhalation, thinking about the mess earlier in the day, while looking at the fast asleep Charlotte with tender eyes.
He had thought that Charlotte would dive straight into completing Antonio’s mission after chasing everyone else out, since her High Elf Bloodline was known to be particularly infertile. Yet, the situation unfolded differently from what he had expected.
When it was finally the two of them left in the room, Charlotte quietly stared at Roel as her emerald eyes slowly reddened. Without any warning, she pounced forward to hug him before breaking down into tears. Her actions shook him up.
Under his probing, she shared with him how she had fared in the year since he had gone missing, from the psychological issues that had arisen from her despair to her dependence on alcoholism to escape from reality.
Roel felt a tight squeeze in his heart.
Among his partners, Charlotte was the one who was the most emotionally dependent on him. This was caused by the Sorofyas’ Loyalty Origin Attribute, which made it impossible for them to turn their back on someone they had fallen in love with. It also didn’t help that Charlotte strongly desired a fruitful romance and marriage.
These traits allowed her to become the most virtuous wife to Roel as long as he was safe and sound, but conversely she would become a wreck should something happen to him.
I see. I have become her greatest weakness…
Roel’s heart filled with guilt, and his guilt further fueled his feelings of affection for her, resulting in what happened afterward.
The long-awaited union exhausted Roel, who wasn’t in a good physical state in the first place, but even so, he was so enraptured that he couldn’t stop. It was a relief Charlotte was weaker in this aspect and wasn’t a match for him at all.
Roel gently wiped away Charlotte’s tears before laying his gaze on her body.
She hadn’t grown out of shape despite having become an alcoholic; on the contrary, she looked better than ever. Roel thought this ought to qualify as one of the Sia Continent’s greatest unsolved mysteries.
Is this due to her High Elf Bloodline? Roel wondered.
Before he could figure out an answer to that question, a dainty hand suddenly covered his eyes. An embarrassed, feminine voice said, “Don’t look at me like that.”
“What’s there to be embarrassed about?” Roel asked.
Surely there’s no need to act like this when we are already an old couple?
There was a moment of hesitation before the hand was lowered. Roel took this chance to embrace the red-faced woman before him, and the latter shyly laid her head on his shoulder.
“Darling, is your soul really all right?”
“I am contracted with Spiriteer Sovereign Edavia. She’s taking care of my soul. There’s nothing to be worried about.”
“I don’t know why, but I feel like something’s not right with you. Is it my imagination?”
“What do you mean by that?” Roel asked with raised eyebrows.
Charlotte gave the matter some thought before gesturing to the ring sitting on her finger, saying, “It’s because of this. Darling, do you still remember this ring?”
“Of course. How could I forget our love token?” Roel raised his hand to show his matching ring.
A blissful smile emerged on Charlotte’s lips.
Peytra had created a pair of rings that allowed two individuals to share their life force; they represented the Primordial Earth Goddess’ affirmation of and blessing to Charlotte. The latter had never taken it off no matter how much despair she was in during the past year.
Neither had Roel.
Under the effects of the ring, Charlotte was able to sense Roel’s condition when the two of them were in proximity.
“I’m not sure about the cause, but, darling, there have been numerous occasions where I sensed strange fluctuations in your fate. At such times, I would feel a familiar aura from my ring,” Charlotte said.
“A familiar aura? What is it?” Roel asked quizzically.
“The aura of the Six Calamities.”
“!”
Roel was startled. He suddenly thought of something and quickly turned to look at the System. Just as he had expected, there were some updates on the System.
The devourer of all beings, the manifestation of the spatial power to obliterate all existence. Anything that stands in the presence of the silver fog will have its existence stolen away. The potency of the effect depends on the mana and duration.
Side Effect: The user’s existence will be temporarily devoured depending on the extent of the usage.】
I see…
Roel’s golden eyes narrowed in contemplation.
