Legend of Dragon Son-in-law - Chapter 298
Chapter 298: Chapter 297 Jumping Out of the Car_1
Julius Reed ultimately still didn’t let Anna Harris take a taxi back.
If he really did that, this woman would probably spend all day mouthing off about it in Quella Radcliffe’s ear.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, he took Anna Harris in his Maybach, heading towards his small western-style house in Gonzalez City.
On the car ride, Anna Harris didn’t speak anymore.
Now, she was worried about being dumped on the roadside halfway, because after all, Julius Reed was entirely capable of doing such a thing.
But at the same time, in her heart, she had already prepared a list of the ten major crimes of Julius Reed, ready to accuse him once she saw Quella Radcliffe.
If she couldn’t handle him, surely someone could, right?
Yet, she couldn’t help but be curious, looking at Julius Reed beside her, “Who were those people just now? Why were they so polite to you?”
More than ten black-clad bodyguards and a private helicopter landing pad – if one were to say these belonged to just an ordinary person, Anna Harris would never believe it.
After all, as someone who had studied abroad for several years, she had that much insight.
“A friend. What, you’re interested? He’s rich, so how about I introduce you as his god-daughter?”
Julius Reed joked, “Then you wouldn’t have to worry about food or drink, and just by calling out ‘godfather’ you could have planes and yachts at your disposal. Do you need my help with that?”
“Screw off!”
Anna Harris’s face had turned as dark as could be.
So she simply turned her head away, looking at the high-rise buildings of Gonzalez City.
The car drove at a steady pace.
The driver was handpicked by Ovidiu Cook, and since Julius Reed was skilled in self-defense, no bodyguards had been assigned to him.
The three people in the car said not a word, only the sound of the tires rubbing against the ground could be heard.
As they crossed Danvers Bridge, they were less than twenty minutes away from the western-style house.
All of a sudden, Julius Reed’s expression changed and he frowned as a faint, almost inaudible noise reached his ears.
“Get out!”
In an instant, his right hand moved swiftly to the car door, flinging it open!
As the car alarm sounded off, Julius Reed, with a confused-looking Anna Harris in tow, leapt out of the car and plunged into the river below Danvers Bridge.
Boom!
Just as they hit the water, the bridge above them collapsed with a thunderous crash.
“What’s happening! Blub…”
Anna Harris floated on the water, struggling incessantly and swallowing mouthfuls of river water in the process.
“Shut up!”
Julius Reed was uncharacteristically serious, “If you don’t want to die, from now on, don’t say a word!”
Anna Harris blinked, completely stunned.
In her memory, during the few days she had been in contact with Julius Reed, he had never been this serious.
She nodded dumbly, instinctively paddling in the water.
Fortunately, she had learned to swim before, or she would have been in an even more sorry state.
Danvers Bridge was situated between two districts of Gonzalez City and was originally desolate.
But lately, the real estate market was too hot, and people with money wanted to live healthier lives.
To meet the needs of the citizens and make a hefty profit along the way, the Imperial Water Bay community was created.
The developers gradually built high-rise buildings on both sides of the riverbank, but since the buildings weren’t completed yet, only construction workers were there.
On the other side of the river was a hill where blasting was often needed for the construction projects—
a sound that would hardly attract the attention of the citizens of Gonzalez City.
Julius Reed, with Anna Harris in tow, swam to a stone and hid behind it, warily surveying the surroundings.
Who could know his movements so well?
To have his route scouted out so thoroughly!
Even though the entire situation was arranged by Ovidiu Cook, Julius Reed was sure it was not Ovidiu Cook’s doing.
Killing him brought no benefit to Cook!
Even Cook’s current interests would suffer.
But there must be a mole within Titan Group!
Otherwise, the bomb could never have been planted inside the car, and if it weren’t for Julius Reed’s extraordinary hearing, by now he and Anna Harris would probably be two dead bodies.
Julius Reed’s gaze was cold. Moments later, a figure flashed by, as if searching for something.
“Inhale! Do it now!”
Julius Reed suddenly shouted.
Although she didn’t understand why, Anna Harris instinctively took a deep breath.
Immediately following, before she could react, her head was pushed underwater by Julius Reed.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
What followed was the sound of shattering.
At the head of the bridge, a man in black held a box of throwing weapons, spraying towards the spot where Julius Reed and Anna Harris had just been.
The large rock next to them shattered into pieces, and the surface of the water erupted into waves.
Under the water, Anna Harris let out a stifled groan, her eyebrows involuntarily furrowing.
She was hit by a dart in the calf, and blood instantly stained the water nearby red.
“Hold on!”
Julius Reed roared, bubbles bursting from his mouth as he dragged Anna Harris quickly towards the other end.
About half a minute later, when Anna Harris was almost out of breath, the two finally surfaced.
“Hiss…”
Anna Harris breathed in the air as if she were starving, gulp after gulp.
In the half-minute underwater, she had forgotten the pain.
But as soon as they emerged, her calf was agonizingly painful.
The river water was dirty, and the wound was very likely already infected.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Before they could catch their breath, more darts struck the ground behind them.
“Bear with it a little!”
Julius Reed took a deep breath and hoisted Anna Harris across his waist, sprinting towards an abandoned factory building.
This was originally a chemical production company, but it had to shut down after being reported for water pollution.
For years, the machinery and equipment had been removed, leaving behind only this unmanaged shell.
After running into the factory, Julius Reed set Anna Harris down and stripped off his shirt.
“What are you doing!”
Anna Harris, shaking all over, watched Julius Reed warily.
Although she was already pale from excessive blood loss, the surroundings still filled her with concern.
“I’m Quella Radcliffe’s best friend, you can’t do such beastly things to me!”
Recalling Julius Reed’s scumbag behavior, she even suspected this was all his ploy to take advantage of her.
Or perhaps, to kill and silence her.
“I promise you, I won’t say a word to Quella Radcliffe about you.”
Anna Harris curled up, her eyes slightly red and swollen.
Pain shot through her calf, causing tears to flow involuntarily.
Ignoring what Anna Harris had said, Julius Reed wrung out his shirt and grabbed her leg, wrapping the shirt around the wound.
“Stay here and don’t move. No matter what happens, don’t make a sound! Otherwise, there’s only one way out for you—death!”
After speaking, he grabbed Anna Harris with one hand and stuffed her into an old metal cabinet.
Then he walked alone towards the warehouse’s main gate.
Tap! Tap! Tap!
The sound of leather shoes echoed from outside the warehouse, exceptionally grating in the silence.
Anxiety made Anna Harris instinctively shrink back, peering through the gap of the metal cabinet at the outside, not daring to even breathe heavily.
“Julius Reed, you sure have good luck surviving!”
The footsteps came to an abrupt halt.
A blond man stood at the warehouse entrance with darts, smiling.
