“No, this can’t be possible!”
Facing the terrifying talent emanating from Sun Yushi, Bian Liang’s expression drastically changed, his face paling as he stared at Sun Yushi: “Impossible, how could you possibly manifest four literary auras?”
Sun Yushi proudly chuckled, “Some events don’t cease to occur merely because
you choose not to believe them.”
After finishing, Sun Yushi turned towards Ji Shulin and respectfully said, “Elder Ji, in view of the respect you have shown, I would like to express my ambitions of four literary talents through a Roaring Tiger Mountain Forest Painting.” Ji Shulin laughed heartily and nodded, “In that case, I shall impatiently await.” Sun Yushi glanced at the color-drained Bian Liang, caught his sleeve with his left hand, picked up his brush with his right hand, dipped it generously in ink and slapped it onto the paper with a ‘thwack’.
ink splashed all around, but it was as if guided by a divine force, marking a dot on the paper. With a single stroke, Sun Yushi sketched a protruding rock. A few additional embellishments quickly laid out the basics.
“This…this is painting by ink dots. This is the Master’s signature technique. It’s terrifying how adept Master Sun is at applying it.”
“Look quickly. With just a few strokes, a mountain forest scene has emerged.
I’m humbled by such speed.”
“This is truly a masterpiece! So beautifully crafted!
■Hissss, he’s painted the tiger so quickly. This… this is utterly inconceivable!”
The surrounding crowd gasped in between their words, their necks craning to see, their eyes filled with wonder.
Bian Liang’S face had lost all color, seeing Sun Yushi’s technique filled him with such immense pressure that he could barely even lift the brush anymore.
Yang Zhen shook his head, mental fortitude such as Bian Liang’s, would serve poorly even for an academic wiz on the planet Earth; clear exam fear, which led him to panic under stress.
In contrast, Tian Rou seemed to fare better. Upon seeing Sun Yushi begin to paint, her face lost some color, but she braved it out, sitting not far beside Sun Yushi while spreading out that treasured piece of paper.
Upon glancing over, Yang Zhen couldn’t help but exclaim.
On the paper was a magnificent, life-like dragon whose every detail was rendered to perfection. As far as Yang Zhen was concerned, there was seemingly nothing else that could be added or refined in the painting. What intrigued Yang Zhen though, was that the dragon was headless. Though painting a tiger or a dragon was complex, the bones were particularly challenging. Realizing that Tian Rou hadn’t included the dragon’s head because she wasn’t yet able to effectively control that level of complexity, he figured that if she had still attempted, it could have spoiled the entire painting.
Looking at Tian Rou’s pale face, perspiring heavily under the immense pressure of Sun Yushi’s talent, refusing to let go of the brush amidst deep breaths, Yang Zhen couldn’t help but nod approvingly.
She was indeed attempting a breakthrough under the pressure exerted by Sun Yushi. If successful, she might be able to conquer the dragon’s head.
Just then, Yang Zhen felt an ill-intentioned gaze. The beastly young man beside Tian Rou was glaring at him. Their eyes met, and his already bulging eyes grew wider, startling Yang Zhen.
Boom!
An explosive wave of talent erupted, swirling into the air in an instant, causing exclamations of shock among the crowd!
Yang Zhen glanced back to see the aura emanating from Sun Yushi’s table coalesce into a vibrant cloud, it was magically suspended in the air without any ink.
“This is… spirit condensed into form!” somebody gasped out in shock!
Sun Yushi’s ability to harness his spirit was as swift as the running of a dog and a horse, and in the blink of an eye, a fierce tiger with glazed eyes and a white forehead materialized in the air. Its eyes radiating aggression, its roar echoing in the sky.
For a moment, everyone felt as though they were in the middle of a forest, facing a roaring tiger, their faces growing pale.
“Impressive,” Yang Zhen marveled, “This Top Scholar from Water Spirit Country is leagues ahead of that bumpkin from the Dajiang Country.”
Thump!
Tian Rou’s brush fell onto the desk, nearly smudging the rice paper. She breathed heavily with a pained expression on her face.
Yang Zhen thought it was a pity. Sun Yushi had finished his painting too quickly. If Tian Rou had been given more time, she might have succeeded.
The young man next to Tian Rou looked worried. He took out a soft handkerchief to wipe Tian Rou’s sweat, comforting her in a low voice. His fierce face revealed a hint of gentleness.
“Brother, I’m okay!” Tian Rou smiled sweetly, a mixture of helplessness and unwillingness in her eyes. Her words made Yang Zhen stagger.
Brother?
At this moment, the aura in the air suddenly disappeared along with the Roaring Tiger Mountain Forest Painting. Sun Yushi’s face turned pale, yet an arrogant smile flashed across his face as he staggered backward.
“I am still learning and 1 have much to improve, I am ashamed that my skills only allowed for a brief representation of the epiphyllum flower!1 Ji Shulin laughed heartily. He patted Sun Yushi on the shoulder, saying, “You’ve already done quite well. When I was your age, I wasn’t nearly as accomplished. There is great potential in you.”
At this point, no one was paying attention to Bian Liang anymore. His state of mind was chaotic, and he was certainly in no condition to pick up his brush. He had clearly lost the challenge in a disastrous fashion.
With the praise from Ji Shulin, Sun Yushi was overjoyed. He was humble but a meaningful smile appeared on his face. He turned to Ji Shulin and said, “I’m grateful for Elder Ji’s approval, but I am extremely humbled. There is still one person here who has not had the chance to compete against me. I am not yet worthy of the expression ‘great potential.’
What?
Upon hearing these words, everyone present was shocked. Even Ji Shulin was taken aback and asked, “Is there such a talented young person among us? It’s indeed our fortune to have him on Turtle Serpent Island. I wonder who this individual could be? Would he or she come forward and meet this old man.” Everyone’s gaze turned to Sun Yushi, waiting for him to reveal the name of his possible match.
“Who here could possibly match up to Master Sun, is that even possible?” “Could there really be such a low-profile yet talented individual?” “Impossible, Master Sun has already successfully solidified four troupes He’s not far from the fifth. How could someone here possibly match his level.”
In the crowd, Hua Youyue’s face suddenly changed. She pulled Yang Zhen to the side, whispering, “Quick, let’s go!”
Yang Zhen just smiled, shaking his head and looking at Sun Yushi. Sun Yushi’s gaze met Yang’s, and he broke into a hearty laugh. He declared loudly, “Brother Yang, how long do you plan on hiding?
“What? This guy is Yang Zhen? Impossible, he doesn’t have the aura of a talented person. How could he possibly rival Master Sun?”
“This… isn’t this a clear attempt to humiliate Yang Zhen? After all, Yang Zhen has clashed with Master Sun multiple times.”
-Well, who can he blame? Yang Zhen doesn’t heed advice. Now he’s in a fix and has lost face, especially in front of Elder Ji.”
As whispers buzzed and all eyes turned to Yang Zhen, he glanced at the smiling Sun Yushi. He turned his innocent face to Hua Youyue and said, “See? I wasn’t looking for a fight. He was the one who took the first shot!” “You…” a worried and helpless look flashed across Hua Youyue’s face. She said grumpily, “This is all your impulsiveness, now what? Sun Yushi has four solid troupes and can solidify his aura to form an image, even though it was brief. You can’t do that. Also…why do you look so excited?”
-What else can I do, he’s targeted me so specifically. I can’t just back down, can I?”
Hua Youyue rolled her eyes at Yang Zhen and said, “Well, what can you do now? In this situation, how can you even take the stage?
“I force my way!” Yang Zhen leaned into Hua Youyue’s ear whispering, “Come on, I’ll show you how amazing I am and rock this place..
