Indestructible God King - Chapter 169.1
Chapter 169.1 A Little Discussion (1/2)
The decennial Dragon Gate Assembly was considered an extremely grand event for all the people in the Ten-thousand Great Mountains.
Why? Because this was the recruitment day for every immortal sect! That was the day when cultivation seekers would have a shot, turning from a carp into a dragon.
Still, why did the immortal sects recruit new talent primarily from the mortal zone? It was all because the mortal zone had no spiritual Qi. Mortals who still thrived, cultivating martial arts in harsh environments, were considered to be greatly talented.
As for those cultivators residing in cultivation towns, they had most likely missed their chance to be scouted; after all, most of them stepped into the Innate Stage when they were much older. Even if they managed to break through to that level, the immortal sects would see them as untalented; recruiting them was seen as a waste of resources.
The young clan members in cultivation clans were nurtured with spirit stones from an early age. Furthermore, having their elders as guides, it was easier for them to stand out and enter the immortal sects. However, the sects weren’t foolish, either; they also worried that those young offshoots were overly pumped with spirit stones and would not grow properly. As such, the tests for candidates became more stringent.
The ordinary recruitment phase had already been concluded over the past few months. Just like Wang Ke’s five hundred youth Brocaded Guards, they have been sent back to their sects already.
Only the ones with extraordinary potential remained, and the recruitment would be carried out during the Dragon Gate Assembly that very day.
All those who attained the Innate Stage before they turned thirty, regardless of where they came from, could take part in the Dragon Gate Assembly. This time, they weren’t going to compete over how talented they were, this time it was all about luck!
Both the righteous and the demonic factions were extremely in favor of disciples who were greatly fortunate. Each decade, both factions would show up to recruit disciples during the assembly; that was also the short period where both factions held a truce. However, fights would often break out when they encountered a good seedling with extraordinary potential. They would fight tooth and nail to snatch them.
And now, it was time for a new Dragon Gate Assembly.
Innate Stage cultivators under thirty years of age went to the assembly venue from the three major empires in the mortal zone. The wide and open space was filled with people.
At the moment—cultivators from both factions were spread all over the town, observing from afar.
Meanwhile, Wang Ke was still standing on an open-air porch of his God Wang Tower. He watched as the multitude of Innate Stage cultivators were walking around in town like they were shopping.
Zhang Zhendgao rushed over, “Wang Ke, why are you in the assembly venue too? You’ve already entered an immortal sect. Are you still trying to compete with others over how lucky you are?”
Wang Ke had a weird face. “Do you really think I want to be here?”
“Why? Someone forced you to come?” Zhang Zhengdao was a little surprised.
“I’m enjoying the scenery with some big boss. Is it any of your business? Leave now! You might not be able to if you don’t hurry up!” Wang Ke urged.
“Enjoying the scenery with some big boss? Don’t tell me you’re going to be raking in more money again? Why didn’t you tell me so I could tag along? I’m not leaving!” Zhang Zhengdao rebutted in frustration.
You make a lot of money every time you act weird. I’m not gonna leave! I’m not going to sit around and watch how all the money goes into your pocket! Dream on!
“Leave my *ss! I’m not leaving! Don’t even think about pocketing all the money on your own! Dream on!” Zhang Zhengdao refused.
“If he doesn’t want to leave, then let him!” A woman’s voice was heard, coming from next door.
“Who? Whose voice is that? Why does it sound… a little familiar?” Zheng Zhengdao was taken aback.
“The demonic sect’s Third Parlor Lord, Zi Bufan!” the other answered with an annoyed face.
Zhang Zhengdao looked bewildered. What? Zi Bufan? That’s right! That voice belongs to Zi Bufan!
Back in Qing Capital, wasn’t she trying to kill Wang Ke? What brings her here?
“Clap!”
A lightning bolt flashed and struck Zhang Zhengdao’s buttocks.
“Ahh!” Zhang Zhengdao screamed in pain.
“Stop screaming. Do you think she will let you go now that you found out she’s here?” Wang Ke said.
“What… What do you mean?” Zhang Zhengdao asked with eyes like saucers.
“What I mean is… Zi Bufan will never let you go, unless you die!” Wang Ke explained.
Zhang Zhengdao almost fainted. “Parlor Lord Zi, I’m not related to Wang Ke. All grudges have their own sources; please direct your wrath at him!”
“Shut up. Parlor Lord Zi won’t bother herself with killing you right now. Just don’t get on her nerves!” Wang Ke whispered to Zhang Zhengdao.
The latter immediately shut his mouth and covered it with his hands out of fear.
“Wang Ke, why didn’t you tell me that Zi Bufan was here!” Zhang Zhengdao grumbled softly.
“I thought I had told you to leave! You’re now blaming me for not heeding my advice?” Wang Ke replied with a stare.
“Humph! Damn. Why am I so unlucky!” Zhang Zhengdao complained in frustration.
Still, Wang Ke felt a much greater frustration.
“Parlor Lord Zi, I already handed Zhu Yan over to you. Why do you still refuse to let me go? I’m innocent! You should find Zhu Hongyi instead! Why are you pulling me into this?” Wang Ke looked towards the room next door with a bitter look.
Most importantly, this is the Dragon Gate Assembly’s venue! According to my original plan, I was supposed to be as far away as possible from this place. Why would I be willing to stay at such a critical time?
Zi Bufan’s voice floated over from the other room. “Wang Ke, I heard about what you’ve been doing here in the Dragon Cultivation Town. Having a good time, huh?”
“Ahh? I’m just…!” Wang Ke looked worried.
“Since you are having such a good time, why don’t you act as a cover for me?” Zi Bufan said.
“Big boss, uh no, I mean Parlor Lord Zi, you’re an Astral Infant powerhouse! I’m merely an Innate Stage cultivator; there’s no way I can do that!” Wang Ke replied with a helpless smile.
You guys go and fight it out by yourselves! Why are you trying to drag me into this and make me act as a meat shield? I’m going to die a horrible death for sure!
Zi Bufan continued, “Humph, I haven’t settled the score with you for what happened back in the Qing Capital. Why should my grand nephew give up on vying to reign the mortal zone and let your Wang Clan rule over the Great Qing? Should I wipe the slate clean by dealing with you right now?” Zi Bufan asked.
“Parlor Lord Zi, didn’t we settle this matter already? Parlor Lord Zhu Hongyi is our witness! A gentleman cannot go back on his words!” Wang Ke rebutted immediately.
Zi Bufan argued back, “I’m a woman, not a gentleman. I will do what I want to do, regardless of what I promised before! Blame it on Zhu Hongyi for not being here!” Zi Bufan replied.
