Chapter 90: The Brother Is Born (1)
One evening eight months later, Melanda was tending to the flowers in the garden. It was early summer, and the buds of these roses were already hanging on the branches. They would bloom soon.
Melanda liked baby roses in particular. Although it was not as beautiful and dazzling as roses, it had a particularly long bloom period. It bloomed in clumps and patches.
Her brother’s due date was in the next few days. Millie had guessed it. The baby in Melanda’s stomach was indeed a boy. His sister had gotten her wish, and so had the entire family.
Melanda’s stomach grew bigger and bigger. She didn’t gain much weight anywhere else. She was still as thin as before. Only her stomach seemed especially big.
Mike didn’t let her attend to the garden, but Melanda couldn’t stay idle. She always walked around the garden and took care of the flowers and plants. Besides, the doctor told her to move more. This would help with the delivery.
“Mom, Mom, where are you?” Just as she was thinking, she heard Millie’s happy cry.
“Baby, Mommy’s here.” Melanda waved at Millie, and her little butterfly immediately ran over.
“Mom, are you tired? Let me help you in to rest. Was my brother obedient today? Did he kick you?”
Millie kept asking questions like a big sister.
Melanda smiled. “He’s very obedient. I’m fine. What about you? Did you have a good time in kindergarten today?”
“Yes. The teacher taught us how to fly kites today. Let Dad take us to the park to fly kites this weekend, okay?”
“Okay, if your brother isn’t out by the weekend,” Melanda said with a smile.
As she spoke, she suddenly felt a warm liquid flowing out from below. She panicked, but she calmed herself down and said to Millie, “1 guess your brother can’t wait to see you. Baby, can you call Grandma over?”
Millie blinked. “Mom, are you going into labor?”
Melanda nodded and Millie rushed towards the house, shouting as she ran. “Grandpa, Grandma, my mother is going to give birth to my brother! My mother is going to give birth to my brother!”
Fortunately, everything was ready.
Because Mike was busy with work, he couldn’t stay at home all the time, so he had started training the entire family two weeks ago. If Melanda started, what would Grandpa do? What would Grandma do? What would Millie do?
Therefore, when this moment arrived, the entire family was only excited. There was no nervousness or panic.
Hearing Millie’s voice, Grandpa immediately went to the garage to drive the car out. Grandma picked up her phone and informed Mike. Mike would go straight to the hospital from the office. The delivery bag had been in the trunk since this week.
After Grandma finished the call, she ran to the garden with Millie to help Melanda. Everyone walked to the car Grandpa had already driven to the side. The car immediately started and drove to the hospital.
On the way, Grandma called the doctor. The doctor said he would have the bed ready in ten minutes.
Then, they called Melanda’s mother. Her mother would be here soon.
The entire work was done in an orderly manner without a moment’s delay.
Melanda was very relieved. Compared to Millie’s birth, this feeling of being surrounded by family, taken care of, and cherished was simply too good. Her nose suddenly tingled.
Grandma squeezed her hand. “Baby, don’t worry. We’re all with you.”
“It’s okay, Mom. Don’t forget, I’ve already had an experience. Besides, there are so many people with me now.”
They arrived at the hospital quickly. From afar, they saw Mike and the doctor waiting at the door.
When the car stopped, Mike opened the door and asked eagerly,
“Baby, how do you feel?”
“Mike, I’m fine. Don’t be anxious.” Melanda turned around to comfort him.
Mike carefully helped Melanda into the wheelchair that was already prepared.
Then, he and the doctor helped Melanda directly into the delivery room. Mike had already settled the child delivery procedures, so he could go in and accompany Melanda as she gave birth. The others could only wait outside.
Inside the delivery room, the doctor examined Melanda first.
After checking, he nodded at Mike and Melanda.
“Everything is normal. Don’t worry. It already has six fingers. The delivery is going very smoothly. It’s not very painful yet, so I suggest the pregnant woman eat something that can help recover her strength.”
Mike was slightly relieved to hear that. He said, “‘Baby, I’m going to leave for a while to prepare food. I’ll be back soon.”
Melanda refused to let go of his hand. “No, don’t go. I don’t want to eat now.”
Mike understood that Melanda didn’t want to lie here alone. He said, “‘No, you have to eat something. I’ll go out and let Dad prepare the food. I’ll be back soon.”
Melanda nodded obediently..
