Chapter 83: The Night Before the Wedding (2)
Night came.
The Jones family’s yard had been decorated. The workers from the wedding company had already left work. Mrs. Jones was still checking around for final confirmation.
Mr. Jones made himself another cup of coffee. Usually he didn’t drink coffee at night because it interfered with sleep. As he got older, he realized how important a good night’s sleep was.
However, he made an exception today. He drank his coffee and looked at the beautiful garden through the kitchen window. Yes, this garden he was familiar with had never been so beautiful as it was tonight. He was in a good mood! His only son was getting married tomorrow morning. This was his son’s big day, and it was their family’s big day.
Even though his son had already left home after graduation and lived alone outside, only after he got married would he have a real home of his own.
And his obligation to raise him was officially over.
The rest of the time was his own.
What satisfied Mr. Jones the most was, of course, his future daughter-in-law. Melanda was someone he treated like a daughter. He was lucky for her to be his daughter in-law.
Even though they had gone through so many twists and turns, he was satisfied with this good ending.
At this moment, Melanda’s house was bustling.
The bridesmaids had all arrived. Some of them were chatting with Melanda, some were enjoying Melanda’s mother’s signature muffins, and some were putting on makeup.
Yes, because there was a wedding the next morning, the bridesmaids had to finish their makeup tonight.
Most of the bridesmaids were Melanda’s childhood friends and classmates. Ever since she graduated from high school, everyone had been busy with their own things and rarely had the chance to get together.
So tonight was more like their class reunion.
“So, how is Mike in bed?” Christine blinked and asked. Melanda blushed. “Huh! Why are you asking this?! I refuse to answer,” Melanda complained and covered her face.
The girls laughed and insisted that she answer the question.
“Come on, Melanda, be fair. I just did a strip,” Connie urged.
“How do I know if he’s good or not? He’s my first and last man. I can’t compare,” Melanda said as she covered her face awkwardly.
“You mean he’s the only one who tasted your delicious body? You’ve never banged anyone else?” They all laughed.
“Please stop. I’m so embarrassed. I’m sweating,” Melanda complained, causing the girls to laugh.
“You’re the most romantic person among us, Melanda. I’m glad you can marry your prince charming,” Connie said emotionally.
“Thank you, Connie. I feel happy too. Who would have thought that our handsome and sexy school hunk, Mike, would fall in love with a bookworm and ordinary girl like me, right?” Melanda continued.
“I thought of it,” Christine replied.
“Melanda, I’ve always seen how Mike eyed you all these years. He has always loved you. Please don’t underestimate yourself. You’re also one of the most beautiful girls in school,” she added.
“Really. A lot of girls envied you and hated you at the same time. Every time you walked by, the boys flocked to you, but they were too afraid of Mike. He warned everyone not to approach you. We knew then that he had feelings for you,” Natasha agreed with Christine.
“Mandy knew too. I remember her saying that these two people are destined to be together,” Connie added.
Melanda burst into tears. The tears she had held back all night finally rushed out. Mandy, her bridesmaid, should be watching her from the sky now, right? The girls stood up and gathered around Melanda.
Everyone missed Mandy.
It was getting late. Everyone had gone to their rooms to rest.
It was two in the morning, and the wedding was four hours away. The bride’s makeup session would start in two hours.
Melanda didn’t plan to sleep, and she couldn’t sleep at all. She stood up and went to Millie’s room to see her daughter. Millie was sleeping soundly. She was wearing her little gown and refused to take it off even when she slept.
When Mom and Dad got married, Millie was the most excited person. She shouted that her prince and princess were finally getting married. Her phone rang. Melanda opened it and saw that it was indeed Mike.
“Baby, you’re awake?”
Melanda smiled and said, “Honey, I’m not asleep yet. What about you? Are you done?”
“Yes, I’m done. I’m in bed now. But I can’t sleep without you beside me,” Mike wheedled.
“I can’t sleep either. Bear with it a little longer. You’ll see me in four hours.”
“Is our little baby asleep?”
“She went to bed a long time ago, but she slept in her little gown and refused to take it off.”
“I can imagine her excited look. Kiss her for me.”
“Yes, I’m sitting beside her now.”
“Baby, I don’t want to leave you even for a minute now. Go back to bed and lie down for a while. Even if you can’t sleep, let yourself close your eyes and rest for a while. I’m a little worried that you won’t have enough energy tomorrow,” Mike said worriedly.
“Okay, I’ll listen to you. You should rest for a while too. I love you..”
