I Can't Escape The Baby's Father After Returning Novel - Chapter 75
Chapter 75: Dave Dies
Outside the hospital’s emergency room, everyone waited anxiously.
Suddenly, the door opened and the doctor walked out. “The car accident caused a lot of internal bleeding, and the bleeding from the head is very serious. We’ve done our best. Now that the patient is awake, go see him for the last time.”
Melanda and Mike assisted Mandy, who had almost fainted. As soon as they entered the ward, Mandy pounced forward. She held Dave’s hand, and Dave smiled weakly at her.
“Honey, can I talk to Mike first?” Dave said.
Mandy nodded. Mike quickly said, “Dave, I’m here. I’m here.”
Dave said: “I’m sorry, bro, for doing that sort of thing to you.”
Mike quickly said, “I know you have your difficulties. Stop talking about this. We’ve never blamed you.” Melanda nodded quickly.
Dave continued, “I saw that the man who tried to run you down today was Jeffrey, Jenny’s brother. I’m glad I got to you in time.”
Tears welled up in Mike’s eyes. “Thank you, bro. Thank you for saving me and the child, but you…”
Dave cut him off. “I did it willingly. I’m glad to had a chance to make it up to you, so you don’t have to feel guilty. You have to live happily with Melanda and have a bunch of children.”
Hearing this, everyone cried.
Dave continued, “Mom and Dad.”
Mandy’s parents came to the front and took Dave’s hand.
“I’m sorry I let you guys down, but I really love Mandy and I really love you all. I’ve been an orphan since I was young. These two years were the happiest time of my life. Thank you for giving me a home.” Dave’s voice choked.
Mandy’s mother sobbed.
“Now, I want to be alone with Mandy for a while, okay?” Dave pleaded.
Everyone nodded silently and walked out of the room.
Mandy and Dave were the only ones left in the room.
Mandy felt so anguished that she couldn’t breathe.
Dave tightened his grip and gripped Mandy’s hand back. “Baby, can I still call you that?”
Mandy cried and nodded. “I love you, Dave. Even after everything that’s happened, I can’t stop loving you. Why, why did you do those things?”
Dave smiled bitterly. “Baby, do you remember the day we first met? You were wearing a red dress. I saw you in the crowd immediately. It was like a special effect from a movie. I could only see you. Everything else disappeared.”
“Getting close to you was their mission for me in the beginning, but ever since I saw you, it became instinctive. I couldn’t help but be attracted to you. I wanted to be close to you every day.” Dave’s face was filled with happiness.
“So, baby, don’t doubt my love.”
“After Melanda came back, I gradually understood that Mike and Melanda were a match made in heaven. Things weren’t like what Jenny’s brother said at all, so I wanted to quit. I didn’t want to do anything for them anymore.”
“But they saw that I was really in love with you, so they used you to threaten me. If I didn’t help them, they would attack you. I had to compromise and tell them that taking photos was the last thing I would do for them.”
“I’m so happy. We’re getting married soon.” Hearing this, Mandy cried even harder. “Honey, I beg you to live for me. I can’t live without you, and our child can’t live without you.”
“Child? You, you have a child?” Dave looked at Mandy in disbelief. Mandy cried and nodded. “I just found out. I didn’t have time to tell you.”
Dave’s expression was complicated. There was happiness, regret, and unwillingness. He struggled to say the last words. “Baby, I’m sorry. I can’t continue to protect you. You have to live. I believe you. You’re so brave. When the child is born, kiss him for me and tell him I love him.”
But it was too late. Dave couldn’t hold on anymore. As soon as he finished speaking, his hand, which was holding Mandy’s, dropped.
Mandy shouted, “Dave!” and couldn’t hold on anymore. She fainted.
The people outside the door flooded in..
