Chapter 74: Everyone Finds Out Melanda Is Pregnant
“You should have told me earlier. You scared me to death, you know?” Mike still felt a lingering fear when he thought about it.
He walked over and squatted in front of Melanda. He asked carefully, “How do you feel now?”
“What? Did I hear wrong? Melanda is pregnant?” the two mothers said in unison.
Melanda looked at them and nodded shyly.
Mike’s mother took Melanda’s hand. “That’s great. Poor child. You just went through such a dangerous ordeal.”
Melanda’s mother asked anxiously, “How are you now? Are you feeling well?”
Melanda quickly said, “Don’t be nervous. I’m fine. I’m just a little tired. In fact, I’ve been sleeping more recently. I’ve been nervous today, so it’s normal to be tired.”
“Then hurry up and rest. Go to your room and sleep for a while. I’ll wake you up when the meal is ready. And you, Mandy, go sleep for a while too. Poor child, look at your dark circles,” Mike’s mother said.
“I’ll help you cook,” Melanda’s mother said as she went into the kitchen with Mike’s mother.
Melanda and Mandy went into the bedroom to rest.
Mike went to bring Millie home. He walked to the door and waited there for the school bus to arrive.
Not long after, the school bus arrived. From afar, Mike saw Millie leaning against the car window and smiling sweetly at him. Mike couldn’t help but smile too. A child’s innocence could dispel all the gloom. And, he was about to become the father of two children. How blissful.
The school bus stopped and Millie got out happily. “Daddy!”
Mike caught the little cutie who threw herself into his arms. “Baby, were you happy today?”
Millie wrapped her arms around her father’s neck and started to ‘report’ her schedule at kindergarten today. “Today, the teacher let us cut little rabbits with scissors. Daddy, look…”
The father and daughter chatted happily. No one noticed that a black car was driving towards them from afar and was getting faster and faster. It was about to hit them. Mike finally noticed the car and frowned. He didn’t know who was driving so fast in the residential area! He immediately wanted to dodge, but he was holding Millie in one hand and Millie’s bag in the other. His movements were more restricted. Just as Mike was feeling extremely anxious, someone suddenly pushed him hard from the opposite side. He and Millie fell.
At this moment, the car sped past him. He heard a loud bang, as if the car had hit something, but the car didn’t stop and drove away quickly.
He looked at Millie, who was in his arms. She seemed so frightened that she forgot to cry. She just stared at him blankly.
At this moment, Mike’s father heard the sound and ran out of the house. “What’s wrong? What happened? Oh my god, why did you fall? Millie, are you okay?”
Mike’s father picked Millie up. Mike struggled to stand up. His back hurt from the fall. He quickly looked up the road and was surprised to see someone lying in the middle of the road. He ran over. It was Dave!
Dave’s head was covered in blood and he had fainted. Mike shouted, “It’s Dave! Call an ambulance!”
At this moment, the police officers, Melanda, Mandy, and the two mothers in the house rushed over.
Mandy heard Mike’s shout and screamed as she rushed over. “Dave! How is he? Oh my God, oh my God!”
Seeing the pool of blood on the ground and the unconscious Dave, Mandy almost fainted. Tears kept flowing. “What’s going on? Why is Dave here? Where’s the ambulance? Why isn’t the ambulance here?!”
Five minutes later, the ambulance arrived. The doctor carried Dave into the car on a stretcher.
Mandy and Mike followed. Then, Mike’s father drove and followed the ambulance with Melanda.
Everyone was anxious as they prayed for Dave to get through this..
