Chapter 60: Kindergarten Parent-Child Sports Meet
When Mike arrived home, everyone was having breakfast in the dining room. When Millie saw Mike, she immediately pounced on him. “Dad, I didn’t see you this morning. I missed you so much. I thought you didn’t come back last night.”
Mike kissed Millie’s little face. “You didn’t see Daddy, but Daddy saw you. I kissed you before I went out this morning, but a certain child was snoring like a little pig.”
As he spoke, he scratched Millie’s small nose. Millie smiled shyly.
“Daddy, I have something to tell you.” Millie suddenly became serious.
Mike sat down at the dining table with Millie in his arms and placed her on his lap.
“What is it? Tell me. Dad’s listening.” Mike took the coffee Melanda handed him and took a sip.
“Tomorrow is the kindergarten’s parent-child sports competition. The teacher said our parents have to come. Can you come?” Millie looked at Mike eagerly.
Looking at Millie’s expectant expression, Mike immediately said,
“No problem, I’ll definitely go!”
Millie relaxed and a big smile appeared on her face. Her eyes were filled with mirth.
“That’s great! I finally have a Dad to participate in the competition together with!”
Melanda, who was sitting opposite, felt a lump in her throat when she saw this. She endured it again and again to stop her tears from falling. Images of the past flashed through her mind. The child just didn’t say so in the past, but she yearned for her father’s company!
Mike reached over and took Melanda’s hand and squeezed it. The two of them smiled at each other. Yes, it was all in the past. From now on, they were a complete and happy family of three. Perhaps in the future, they would be a family of four and five…
“But tomorrow is Friday. Can you really leave?” Melanda knew how busy Mike was now.
“Of course, you don’t have to worry. You guys are the most impoftant. I’ll arrange it. Trust me, baby.” Mike wanted to make up for the regrets he had in the past six years. Besides, this was his responsibility as a father. He had to do it.
If there was anything unconditional in this world, it was the love of a parent for their child.
What was unquestionable and unavoidable was both an incomparably heavy responsibility and happiness and love.
The next day, Mike, Melanda, and Millie put on their parent-child outfits and appeared on the kindergarten sports field. Millie was like a proud little peacock. She held her father with her left hand and her mother with her right.
The appearance of this family of three attracted the attention of the parents present. When Millie saw the teacher and children, she introduced, “This is my father. He’s a doctor.”
They even brought the muffins that Grandma had specially prepared for the children.
The sports meet soon began.
The first activity was for the children to sit in a big tire. The fathers tied ropes around their waists to pull the babies to their designated positions. The time to test the fathers’ strength had arrived.
As soon as the whistle blew, the fathers started to pull forward with all their might. The playground was rubber, and so were the tires. The friction between the rubber was enhanced, so it wasn’t easy to pull.
Fortunately, his little princess wasn’t heavy. He stole a look at the father beside him. His son was chubby. Mike sympathized with him for a second.
Millie was cheering for her dad loudly. “Dad, you can do it! Daddy is the best!”
Mike quickened his pace and quickly reached the finish line.
“Yeah! We’re first. We’re champions!” Millie was overjoyed!
Mike rushed over and picked Millie up. Millie kissed her father’s face hard. “Daddy, you’re so awesome! You’re the best, Daddy!”
At this moment, Mike was happier than ever before!
Mike had seen many children like this in the past. He always found it difficult to understand why those parents could tolerate this.
This time, he understood how cute and easily satisfied human cubs were!
Mike carried Millie to Melanda’s side. Melanda, who was sitting in the stands, gave him two thumbs up. “You’re indeed a handsome and brave father!”
The happy day ended quickly. Millie, who returned to the car, fell asleep quickly.
Melanda turned to look at Millie. “She’s really tired today. She’s been excited since yesterday.”
Mike held Melanda’s hand with his free hand as he drove. Melanda said, “With you around today, I’m much more relaxed. I used to be so tired.”
Mike tightened his grip on Melanda’s hand. “I’ll always be here in the future. I’ll use the rest of
