Chapter 58: What You See Might Not Be The Truth
Mandy saw Melanda’s expression and hurried over. She grabbed her phone and saw a picture on it. In the picture, Mike was kissing a flirtatious woman. Mike was wearing the clothes he wore when he went out today!
Mandy was angered. She immediately found Mike’s phone number in her contacts and dialed it. The phone rang twice before Mike answered.
“Hey, honey, wait a minute. It’s a little noisy over here. I’ll go out and answer it.”
“Mike, what are you doing? Come back immediately and explain to Melanda.”
Even though Mandy suppressed her voice, he could still hear her extreme anger.
“I’m at the bar with Dave. What happened to Melanda?” Mike was puzzled.
“I’ll send it to you. See for yourself.” Then Mandy hung up.
Melanda sat there blankly with her face pale. She was watching Mandy, but she didn’t seem to hear anything.
It was a pool party. All of this was so similar to that night six years ago.
And there was Jenny.
It wasn’t Jenny this time.
That woman looked a little familiar.
Oh right, she seemed to be Selina.
They couldn’t wait to see each other again?
Mike still liked that type. She was the same type as his previous girlfriends: bubbly, sexy, and hot.
The woman in the photo was sitting on his lap while the two of them were kissing passionately.
She glanced at Mandy and said,
“Mandy, I’m sorry. I want to go home.”
“Okay, I’ll take you back.” Mandy nodded.
“No need. Stay and receive the guests.” Melanda shook her head. “I’ll be fine.”
“No, I’ll send you back.” Mandy was firm. “I won’t leave you alone like I did six years ago. I won’t do that anymore. To me, you’re the most important thing.” Melanda said nothing more and let Mandy take her home.
Millie and her grandma were already asleep.
Just as she reached home, Melanda heard her phone ring. She saw that she had three missed calls on her phone. They were all from Mike. But she didn’t want to answer them. She went straight to the shower.
She stood in the shower blankly and let the hot water run down her face. She cried silently.
People said that rosy clouds were easily scattered and glass was easily crushed. Indeed, beautiful things couldn’t last long.
She knew she should believe Mike, or at least give him a chance to explain. But the picture was so clear that it pierced her eyes and her heart.
Mike was stunned when he saw the picture, but he recovered quickly. This had to be a well thought out plan, and he fell for it.
He knew he hadn’t done anything, but the picture looked so real. Melanda must be heartbroken. He didn’t even have time to say goodbye to Dave before he rushed out of the bar. As he headed for the car, he called Melanda.
But Melanda didn’t answer.
“Answer the phone, Melanda. It’s not what you think.” He had never felt so panicked before.
On the way back, he kept calling her, but she didn’t pick up.
He was anxious.
Mike got home quickly, then rushed upstairs and found Melanda sitting blankly on the bed after taking a shower. Her hair was still wet. Melanda’s eyes were red, and she had clearly just cried. His heart ached. He really wanted to kill that woman at this moment!
He grabbed her hand and said eagerly, “Baby, listen to me. It’s not what you think.”
Melanda didn’t respond.
He went to the washroom and got a towel and a hairdryer. As he wiped her hair, he said, “I know you saw that picture. But sometimes, what you see might not be the truth.’
“This must be a setup. Think about it. I just met her at the bar and you received that picture immediately. How did she know your number so quickly?”
Melanda seemed to be listening. “So you really… kissed her?”
“Of course not. Believe me, I won’t betray you. That’s just a matter of angle.”
“Really? Then why were you guys so close? If you weren’t so close, that person wouldn’t have taken such a photo.”
“Not long after I got to the bar, she suddenly appeared. It was very noisy in the bar, so she approached me to talk. I just dodged and didn’t suspect anything. Now that I think about it, it was premeditated. This woman is up to no good. I’ve already warned her.”
“You put your hand on her waist.”
“I was about to push her away at that time.”
Melanda lowered her head and sighed. “But she’s the type you like. Your former girlfriends are all of this type. I’m afraid you’ll get tired of me sooner or later and go back to your original way of life. I’m so afraid.”
Mike’s heart ached when he heard these words. He squatted in front of Melanda and lifted her head. “Baby, look at me.”
Melanda stared at Mike blankly. There was unconcealed anguish in her eyes.
Mike said word for word, “I didn’t like that type in the past, and I don’t like that type in the present, nor will I in the future. From the past to the present to the future, I’ve always loved you alone.
