Chapter 52: You Clearly Just Left, But I Miss You Already
As expected, Mandy’s signature scream came from the earpiece. “Ah! That’s great, darling! I’m so happy. Congratulations! I’m going to cry!”
Mandy’s voice choked. She really knew how hard it had been for her and how much she had suffered.
“Ah, Melanda, I have a good idea. Why don’t we have a group wedding?” Mandy’s voice was cheerful again.
“Ah, we shouldn’t. I don’t want to steal your thunder. Besides, time is too tight to prepare.” Melanda was amused by Mandy’s idea.
Mike hugged Melanda from the side and nodded to agree with Melanda.
“Mandy, let’s have a bachelor party this weekend, okay? After all, this is your last weekend as a bachelor. How is it?”
Mandy and Dave’s wedding was next weekend.
Melanda had been planning this for a long time. Melanda was glad she didn’t miss it because she was sick.
“Okay, okay, that’s great. It’ll be at my house. It’s settled, I’ll call!” Mandy said excitedly.
After hanging up, Melanda saw that Millie was playing puzzles with Daddy. She had bought that puzzle for a long time and she had never been able to take the time to play with Millie. To be honest, she didn’t really like it. Now, someone could play puzzles with Millie.
The father and daughter leaned over the floor and searched carefully for the right piece. Every time they found a piece, Millie giggled with delight.
For some reason, Melanda’s eyes welled up with tears.
Annie walked over, handed Melanda her coffee, and sat down. She looked at her daughter and said, “Everything is worth it, isn’t it?”
Melanda nodded and leaned her head on her mom’s shoulder.
As he was enjoying himself, Mike’s phone suddenly rang. He picked up the phone, got up, and went to the side to answer it. Melanda’s eyes followed him. She saw Mike’s expression grow grave, and then his brow slowly furrowed as he said something to the other party.
Mike put the phone down and walked over to Melanda. “Honey, what’s wrong?” Melanda asked.
Mike said, “It’s about the company. I need to go over.”
Millie had been watching her dad too. When she heard this, she immediately rushed over and hugged Mike tightly. “No, I don’t want Dad to go. The puzzle isn’t finished.”
Mike squatted down and stroked his daughter’s hair. He comforted her gently. “I’m sorry, baby.
There’s something important at Daddy’s office. I have to go over immediately. When I’m done, I’ll come back and play with you immediately, okay?”
“No, no, no. If we put the puzzle away, we have to put it back together. Then, what we just put together will be all for nothing.” For some reason, the usually well-behaved Millie became very clingy. Tears streamed down her big eyes.
“Baby, don’t cry. Daddy’s heart will break if you cry.” Mike’s heart ached.
Melanda went over and picked up Millie. “Baby, can Mommy play with you? Daddy has to go to work. You have to be good.”
Millie was still crying. Melanda gave Mike a look, and Mike left reluctantly while looking back a couple of times.
“Why don’t we come and see Princess Elsa?”
Millie stopped crying immediately when she heard that she could watch her favorite cartoon. A child’s tantrum came and went quickly. She seemed to have forgotten about her sadness.
Melanda shook her head and went to the kitchen.
Melanda said, “Mom, what can I do for you?” Annie was busy in the kitchen.
“How’s Millie?” Annie asked. “I’m preparing lunch. Can you help me prepare the salad?”
“She’s fine now and she’s watching Elsa,” Melanda replied. “For some reason, she became so clingy to Mike. She never used to be like this,” Melanda said with a frown.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to worry. She just found out she has a father. She needs time to get used to it. This is between her and Mike. They need time to find the best way to interact with each other,” Annie analyzed.
Melanda thought her mom had a point.
In fact, it wasn’t just Millie. She couldn’t bear for Mike to leave either. Everything that had happened last night felt like a dream. She needed Mike to stay with her, as if she had to see it with her own eyes and touch it with her own hands before she could be sure it was all true. Mike called at noon. “Baby, have you had lunch? How’s my little princess?”
Melanda smiled and said, “She’s fine already. She’s watching Elsa. Have you had lunch?”
“I was going to eat. The meeting started as soon as I got to the office, and it just ended. Baby, I missed you.” Mike’s voice lowered, probably because he was afraid people would hear him.
“Me too. You clearly just left, but I miss you already. I don’t know how to describe this feeling to you. I want to watch you and touch you at anytime. I don’t know what to do when you’re gone, and I think of you whenever I do anything. You don’t think I’m annoying, do you?” Melanda had never expressed her feelings so bluntly before. Now, she didn’t want to waste time. She wanted Mike to understand how passionate her feelings for him were.
“Baby, why would I think you’re annoying? I’m so happy. I understand how you feel, because I
feel the same as you. I wish I was with you every moment. What should [ do? I’m not in the mood to work anymore.”
Mike’s coquettish voice was very pleasant.
“Haha, go to work. Be good N ” Melanda ended the call..
