The next morning, Melanda woke up amid the chirping of birds. She glanced out the window. The sun was high.

Melanda figured she must have overslept, because Mike was gone from her side. She saw a bright red rose and a post-it on Mike’s pillow. She took the rose and smelled it deeply. The unique scent of the rose was refreshing. The post-it said, “Good morning, my fiancee. If you’re already awake, come downstairs for breakfast. Our daughter and I are waiting for you downstairs.”

Seeing the words “fiancee”, Melanda blushed. She had almost forgotten about it. She raised her hand and carefully examined the engagement ring on her hand. It was her engagement ring. Mary and Steve stopped what they were doing and looked at them seriously.

“Mom, Dad, I proposed to Melanda last night, and she agreed to my proposal,” Mike said as he looked at Melanda, who was looking at him lovingly. “You two watched us grow up, watched us during our happy times, times watched us separate, and go through life and death situations. So we wanted to share this good news with you two firsthand.”

Mary, her eyes welling with tears, covered her mouth at once.

“That’s great! Congratulations. Melanda, welcome to our family. Oh, and our lovely little princess, Millie,” Uncle Steve said happily.
