I Can't Escape The Baby's Father After Returning Novel - Chapter 49
Chapter 49: Proposal (2)
To Melanda’s surprise, dinner wasn’t in a restaurant, but in Mike’s yard.
Mike had clearly made a lot of preparations in advance. He was probably already busy at home that afternoon. And Uncle Steve and Aunt Mary had clearly gotten the news ahead of time. They gave some private space to the young couple and went off somewhere.
This was their first official date.
When they reached the yard door, Mike said, “Baby, close your eyes.”
Melanda obediently closed her eyes. She was suddenly nervous.
Mike felt her nervousness. “Relax, baby. I’ll hold your hand. Just follow me.”
Melanda was nervous and excited. She had never felt that the way to the garden was so long before.
She was too familiar with this garden. This place had witnessed the journey of her love for Mike, from youthful ignorance to sad heartbreak, and then to mature romance. Now, Mike was holding her hand as they welcomed a bright future together. She had dreamed of this scene countless times.
“Okay, you can open your eyes now.”
Melanda opened her eyes and found herself standing beside a white dining table. Rose of all colors surrounded her while forming a huge heart-shaped wall.
“Wow, this is too beautiful!” She covered her mouth in shock, or she would have screamed in the next second.
The dining table was made into a big M with white candles. And M was the first letter of Melanda and Mike’s names.
“Baby, you must be hungry. Let’s eat first. Please sit, my dear princess.” Mike pulled out a dining chair for her. Melanda sat first, then Mike went to the other side of the table and sat.
Mike prepared steak, mashed potatoes, and vegetables with red wine. When they started to enjoy dinner, soft music sounded.
Melanda blinked and said to Mike, “Thank you, honey. Thank you for doing so much for me.”
“It’s my pleasure, Your Highness,” Mike said in a very gentlemanly manner.
After dinner, Mike invited Melanda to dance. The two of them danced slowly while enjoying the soft evening breeze and romantic music.
“Baby, you know what? I’ve been in love with you since a long time ago.” This time, Mike spoke first.
“Really? When?” This surprised Melanda. She always thought Mike treated her like a sister.
“It was so early that I couldn’t even remember when it was. Maybe from junior high? We were both teenagers. No, maybe it started from elementary school. I remember how willing I was to follow you and Mandy around every day. I was angry as soon as I saw boys near you.” Mike smiled as he reminisced over their childhood.
“So I thought you treated yourself as my brother.” Melanda smiled too. “Then why didn’t you tell me? I would have fainted from happiness.”
“If I knew you liked me too, I would have said it. I was so afraid of losing you. You have to know, once you rejected me, I couldn’t face you or see you again. To hide it, I even started dating any girl around me, like Jenny. Why didn’t I find out she was cheating on me? I think it was because I didn’t care. Back then, you were the only one in my heart,” Mike said with anguish.
Melanda hugged Mike tightly. “Me too. I’ve liked you since a long time ago, starting from the moment I understood what love was. But I only dared to look at you from afar. I didn’t dare to reveal my feelings or go near you. As long as I could stay with you and breathe the same air, I was satisfied. After you went to college, I counted the days until you came back for vacation. Even though your girlfriend made me jealous and heartbroken, I still came to you often.”
“Oh, baby, you should have told me.” Mike kissed Melanda tenderly. They had missed out on too much time together.
“We were like fools,” Melanda said with a self-deprecating smile.
“Fortunately, we eventually realized it. We didn’t miss out on each other.” Mike looked at Melanda affectionately and then went down on one knee.
Melanda covered her mouth in shock, and her heart raced.
Mike saw that a beautiful box appeared in his hand. His hand was a little shaky, and he tried a few times before finally opening the box. It was a beautiful and expensive diamond ring!
Mike raised the ring and said passionately,
“Baby, you’re the best gift God has ever given me. I’m so lucky to be loved by the person I love. You suffered so much for me and gave me such a cute little angel. Honey, please give me a chance to take care of you and Millie. Marry me, okay?”
Melanda’s tears streamed down..
