Melanda could finally be discharged! After staying in the hospital for three weeks, she couldn’t wait to go home. Besides, she hadn’t seen Millie for a few days. She missed the child!

Mike and Melanda completed the discharge procedures and packed their things. Mike carefully helped Melanda into the car and buckled her seat belt.

Melanda smiled. “Darling, I can do it myself. You don’t have to do this.”

“I want to. As long as you guys are okay, I’d be happy to do anything,” Mike said with a smile. He kissed Melanda on the cheek and walked back to the driver’s seat. It was such a good day. Mike was in a great mood.

The car started. Mike drove the car out. When the red light turned, he pulled Melanda’s hand and found it cold.

“Are you cold, baby?” Mike asked.

“I’m not cold. I’m fine. Focus on driving,” Melanda replied quickly.

It seemed like Melanda was still nervous. This was her stress response after the accident. Mike took his hand back and drove calmly.

“Don’t worry, baby. I’ve been driving for ten years. Before I got into the car, I’d already done a full checkup. Everything’s normal.”

Melanda forced herself to relax. “I know I overreacted. Give me a minute, Mike.”

“Of course, baby. Don’t be anxious. Take it slow and don’t blame yourself. This is a normal reaction. I’ll always be with you.”

The lovey-dovey vibe in the car seemed to be a little overwhelming. Fortunately, no one was there.

The two of them returned home quickly. Annie and Millie were already waiting at the door. Everyone happily welcomed Melanda home. Mike settled Melanda on the sofa first while Millie snuggled in her mother’s arms. The mother and daughter enjoyed the intimacy after the small time away from each other.

Melanda hugged Millie tightly. She couldn’t help but think of the moment before the accident. Her last thought was, “Please, God, take me away and leave Millie behind.” Her nose ached again. God had been so good to her. Now, she saw that Millie was safe and sound, and she was finally starting to heal as well. She and Mike had finally erased the misunderstanding and estrangement. She was satisfied now.

Annie busied herself in the kitchen and quickly prepared a scrumptious dinner.

After dinner, everyone rested on the sofa. Mike hugged Melanda, and Millie sat at Melanda’s feet. Annie’s eyes welled up with tears when she saw the happy family of three. Her poor daughter had finally gotten what she deserved, but the price she had to pay was a little too high.

Melanda looked a little tired, so Mike offered to let her rest early.

“Honey, I’ll go wash up and go to bed with Millie. Go take a shower first. I’ll come to accompany you soon.”

Millie nodded obediently and kissed her mother’s cheek before leaving. “Good night, Mom. I love you. You must wake up early tomorrow.”

It seemed like Millie was still worried. Melanda forced a smile. “I will, baby. Good night and sweet dreams.”

“Thank you, Mike.” Taking care of Millie had always been Annie’s task during this time. She was happy to see Mike take over.

“Don’t thank me, Aunt Annie. I’ll be happy to do it, and I’ll do it every day from now on.” When she heard this, Annie patted Mike’s shoulder and smiled.

This was the first time Mike was accompanying Millie to bed. He accompanied her to wash up and go to bed. Millie asked her dad read her favorite book, Sleeping Beauty. She said the book was a story about her mom. and how her dad kissed her mom to wake her up.

Mike smiled and agreed. He had just read half of it when Millie fell asleep while leaning on Mike. Mike kissed her head and covered her with the blanket. Then he turned off the big light but left a small light on.

He stared at the sleeping little angel and felt very proud, because this was the daughter between him and the woman he loved. She had her mother’s eyes, but she looked more like him when he was little. How could he be so blind and stupid? He didn’t recognize his own daughter! They looked so much alike!

He stared at his sleeping daughter for a moment longer, then returned to Melanda’s room. She had already washed up and was leaning against the bed while waiting for him. Mike approached her and bent to kiss her head.

“Baby, I want to stay and take care of you. I don’t want to be apart from you for even a moment.”

Melanda agreed and nodded. “Me too. I’ll be more at ease with you around.”

“Go to sleep first. I’ll take a shower. I’ll be done in 15 minutes.” Mike kissed Melanda’s forehead and went into the bathroom.

Melanda was so sleepy that she was about to fall asleep. She was indeed tired after a long day because of the discharge.

But this was the first time they spent the night together after they got together, and Melanda was vaguely expecting something..
