Mike looked up and saw Melanda’s charming eyes looking at him. He smiled too, but as he smiled, he cried again. His nose tingled and his throat was dry. He couldn’t say a word. The two of them looked at each other yearningly. Melanda’s eyes were filled with tears.

“Baby, I thought I would never see you again,” Melanda sobbed.

“I know. It’s been hard on you, baby. Thank you for coming back. Thank you for coming back for me. I love you,” Mike said excitedly. “I’m so happy. I’ve never been so happy. Thank God!”

“I’m going to call the doctor. I’m going to tell them you’re awake and let them check you. I’m going to tell my parents, Mandy and Dave. Everyone was scared, baby. Thank God you’re finally awake,” Mike said incoherently.

“Wait, Mike. I want to be with you alone for a while. Just a while, okay?”

Who could refuse such a request?

Mike brought Melanda’s hand to his mouth and kissed it. “Baby, I’m glad you’re awake. This is great. I thought I might lose you…” Mike’s voice broke.” Millie has been clamoring for her mother, and I don’t know how to tell her. Thank you for coming back to us.

“Mike, the moment before I lost consciousness, I was so afraid. I thought I would never see you again. I haven’t told you about Millie. I’m sorry, honey. I hid the truth from you. Millie is your child. That night, you mistook me for someone else, and I was heartbroken. Then I realized I was pregnant, and I was so afraid. I didn’t know what to do. I’m sorry, Mike,” Melanda cried. She had wanted to say these words a million times, but when she said them out loud in front of Mike, she was still overwhelmed.

“Baby, you don’t have to be sorry. I’m the one who should be apologizing. I’m such a jerk. I should have told you sooner. I fell in love with you long ago. I was so drunk that night that I didn’t recognize you. When I saw Millie, I didn’t even recognize my daughter. I’m the biggest idiot in the world. Can you forgive me, honey?” Mike said with heartache.

“It’s all in the past, baby. The important thing is now. Fortunately, we didn’t miss out on each other. We have a lot of time, don’t we? Baby, I’m a little tired. You can call the doctor now,” Melanda whispered. Mike quickly stood up and pressed the call button on the bed.

The doctors were extremely shocked and happy to see Melanda wake up. Mike went back to the next room and told Aunt Annie the good news. She immediately ran to Melanda’s room while crying. Mike picked up the sleeping Millie and said softly,

“Baby, Mommy’s awake. Want to go see her? Mommy’s waiting for you.’

When they reached the next room, Annie was crying while holding her daughter’s hand.

“Mom,” Millie called out groggily. Melanda looked up at the sound of Millie’s voice. Her eyes lit up and tears fell.

“Oh, my baby. I missed you so much, darling. I’m so sorry it took me so long to wake up. I’m so glad to see you’re okay, my darling. I was so afraid I would never see you again.” She cried and hugged her daughter tightly.

Mike kissed the mother and daughter’s heads and breathed a sigh of relief. The nightmare was finally over. Thank God for bringing them back to him..
