I Can't Escape The Baby's Father After Returning Novel - Chapter 37
Chapter 37: Car Accident
Melanda stood at the window and watched Mike leave. She saw Mike stop outside in the yard and say something to the police outside.
After Millie had breakfast, Melanda helped Millie put on her school uniform. She packed her bag, and prepared to leave. Looking at this little guy who grew up day by day, Melanda often felt that time really passed quickly. She felt like time passed even faster after she had a child. Before she knew it, Millie had grown from a small baby to a big child who had to go to kindergarten every day. Moreover, she was starting primary school this year.
Too many things had happened lately. Melanda hadn’t had time to tell Mike the truth. She decided to tell Mike tonight in case something unexpected happened. She didn’t want to leave any regrets. No matter how Mike would react, she could handle it. She had to face it.
The day passed calmly. Soon, it was time to get off work. Melanda drove the car to the parking lot outside Millie’s kindergarten, parked the car, and headed for the kindergarten. The two policemen followed her from afar.
Just then, the phone rang. She glanced at it. It was Mike, so she picked up quickly. “Hi, baby. Are you off work?”
“I’m off work. Dear Miss Melanda, can I invite you to dinner?” Mike sounded happy.
“Of course you can. I’ll meet you after I pick up Millie.”
“Okay, see you later.”
After hanging up, Melanda couldn’t help but think about the meeting with him later. Although they had just been apart for less than a day, she already missed him. She had just waited for a while when Millie got out of school. She said goodbye to the teacher and left with her daughter.
“Millie, have you had a good day?”
“Mom, I’m so happy! It’s a child’s birthday today. We blew out the candles together and ate an especially delicious cake. I want to celebrate my birthday in kindergarten next time.”
“Okay, I will buy you a big cake when it’s your birthday, okay?”
“That’s great, Mom. I love you.”
Kids were always so easily satisfied. At this moment, Melanda forgot about the uneasiness brought by the stalking incident over the past two days. Everything seemed so blissful.
Soon, they reached the car. When they got in, Melanda saw that the window was open. Shit, she always forgot to close the window. Fortunately, there was nothing expensive in the car. Melanda inserted the key and started the engine. Just then, the phone rang again. It was Mike.
“Baby, did you pick up Millie?”
“Daddy, we’re already in the car!” Millie answered.
“My little princess, I missed you. Did you have a good time today?”
“I missed you too, Dad. It was the birthday of someone in my class today! We even had cake!” Millie shared with Mike happily.
As she listened to the conversation between the father and daughter, Melanda drove out of the parking lot.
“That’s great, baby. Can you give your phone to Mom?”
“Okay, Dad, see you later,” Millie said goodbye to Mike obediently.
“Baby, drive carefully. Be careful on the road. I’ll wait for you at home. I can’t wait to see you.’
“I will, baby. I missed you too. I have something to tell you tonight,” Melanda said as she drove. Then, Melanda realized the car seemed to be moving a little too fast. Melanda tried to brake, but the brakes didn’t work.
“Oh my God, what happened to this car?” Melanda couldn’t help but shout.
“Baby, what’s wrong? What happened?” Mike was still online.
“Mike, the brakes don’t work. I can’t stop the car. We’re moving fast. God, ah!!!” I screamed. Millie seemed to be scared and didn’t make a sound.
Mike shouted on the other end of the phone, “Baby, you have to calm down. Try to brake and slow the car down first. Then drive to a less crowded road and stop the car.”
“I can’t, Mike. I can’t stop. What should I do?” The car was moving faster and faster. Later, the car hit something and flipped. Before she lost consciousness, Melanda used her last strength to tell Mike, “I love you, Mike. I’m sorry.”.
