I Can't Escape The Baby's Father After Returning Novel - Chapter 32
Chapter 32: Working Overtime
Mike’s POV
With nervousness and determination, I welcomed a new week. Fortunately, I could see Melanda at work too, which made me feel extremely at ease. I didn’t see her when I got to the office today. I wondered what she was busy with.
As we passed the conference room, I saw her in there. A man I didn’t know was talking to her, but his body was tilted so that his face was almost touching Melanda’s face. At the same time, he placed his hand on Melanda’s. Melanda pulled her hand back frantically like a frightened deer.
This guy was disgusting. I rushed in without thinking and chased him away. I couldn’t let a man take advantage of the woman I loved like this. I didn’t think any man could take it.
But Melanda seemed a little dejected. This was her first deal after all. I understood her feelings. When I sent her a message after work, she said she was going to work overtime and wouldn’t go back with me. In fact, she rarely took my car back. I knew she was avoiding me.
I had no choice but to go back first, but halfway through the drive, I was still worried, so I bought dinner and turned around to go back. We could at least have a meal together. I would only be at ease if I stayed by her side.
Melanda wasn’t at the work table when I got back to the office. I looked around and saw that the light in the pantry was on. Before I got there, I heard Melanda’s laughter, then I saw her and Leo eating.
So Leo was there too.
I didn’t know what Leo said, but Melanda smiled happily. I hadn’t seen such a smile on her face since she returned. I held the dinner in my hand and was at a loss for what to do.
“Baby, you have to be brave. Don’t lose Melanda again.” I remembered what my mom had said. It gave me courage. No matter what, I couldn’t back down. I could only be at ease with Melanda by my side. At the thought of it, I walked in. Melanda and Leo seemed shocked to see me.
“I bought you dinner, but it looks like you already ate,” I said while pretending to be nonchalant.
“Oh, thank you, Mike. Do you want to sit down and eat together?” Melanda said.
I was hoping she would say that, but because of my participation, they fell silent. We quickly finished our dinner.
“Are you done with your work? Let me take you home,” I said. “Um, not yet, actually. I need half an hour,” Melanda said.
“Okay, I’ll wait for you,” I said in a non-negotiable tone.
“Okay, if you insist.” Melanda didn’t seem to have any intention of resisting.
Melanda quickly ended her work and we set off. In the car, Melanda said cautiously,
“Thank you for helping me out today.”
“It’s my pleasure, Miss Melanda,” I said politely.
“Mike, are you angry? What’s making you angry?” Melanda couldn’t help but say.
“I didn’t know Leo was working overtime with you, and I didn’t know he could make you so happy,” I confessed.
“Are you jealous? I told you, Leo and I are colleagues.”
I parked the car on the side of the road, then turned around and looked at Melanda. “Baby, I need to know how you feel. I felt uneasy when I saw you smiling at Leo so happily. I don’t know if my love for you will trouble you, but I love you, so I want you to be happy. However, it has to be based on what you want. I don’t know if I should continue.”
It was quiet in the car. Melanda lowered her head and was fiddling with the corner of her shirt.
“I don’t want to pressure you, but I need to know. You can take it slow, but at least tell me if you want me to stay with you,” I said in a distressed manner.
“I do, Mike. I’ve liked you for a long time.” After a long time, Melanda looked up and I saw tears in her eyes..
