I Can't Escape The Baby's Father After Returning Novel - Chapter 29
Chapter 29: Spend The Weekend Together (2)
“Wow, it’s so beautiful. Is it delicious?” Millie was wearing pink clothes and holding a pink cherry-shaped ice cream. What a beautiful little princess!
After Mike was interrupted, he looked dejected, but he didn’t say anything else.
After we rested enough at the top of the mountain, we planned to go down the mountain. The way down the mountain was still a little shaky. Mike took the initiative to hold Millie tightly. He told her to pay attention to her feet and not to run. He was very patient.
Mandy and I were still walking behind them. I had been a little distracted because of the conversation with Mike. I didn’t walk for long before my feet suddenly slipped and I fell to the ground.
“Ouch,” I couldn’t help but cry out. Shit, I sprained my ankle. Mandy hurriedly held me. Mike and Millie heard it too and hurried over to check my condition.
Mike squatted in front of me and lifted my feet to put them on him. I felt a little embarrassed and tried to struggle. Mike said, “Don’t move. I’ll check it. It’s possible that you sprained your ankle too.” I had to do as I was told.
Millie looked worried. “Mom, does it hurt?”
I had to comfort her. “It’s okay, Millie. I just sprained my ankle. I’ll be fine after some rest.”
While I was talking, Mike had taken my shoes and socks off and was checking the injury carefully. “Your ankle is a little swollen. It’s best not to continue walking, or it’ll get worse.”
Hearing this, I was a little worried. What should I do? We were halfway up the mountain. We didn’t have any other means of transportation.
“It’s okay, don’t worry. I’ll carry you down the mountain.” Mike seemed to sense my worries.
“How can I do that? I’m not Millie. I’m very heavy.” It was already difficult to go down the mountain. It would be even more tiring to carry someone.
“Let’s go. Your ankle needs to be treated as soon as possible.” Mike didn’t wait for me to object. He carried me on his back and glanced at Mandy. Mandy understood and immediately said, “I know. I’ll take care of Millie. Don’t worry!”
I laid my head on Mike’s body. The pleasant scent I hadn’t smelled in a long time mesmerized me again. But I was still uneasy. I wasn’t heavy, but I was an adult after all. What could I do to make myself lighter?
“Baby, don’t move. At this moment, holding onto me tightly will reduce my burden the most.” My thoughts were always seen through by Mike. My face blushed again.
I resigned myself to lying on top of Mike and convinced myself to enjoy this rare, dreamlike, intimate moment.
“Baby, what are you thinking?” Mike asked as he watched Mandy and Millie gradually get distanced from us.
“No, nothing.” I stammered a little.
“Baby, I just wanted to tell you that of course I don’t think of you as Millie or just as a sister. Do you understand?” Although I couldn’t see Mike’s face, I could imagine the seriousness on his face at the moment.
“Uh, frankly, I don’t understand,” I confessed.
“Baby, I realized I like you,” Mike said softly.
Even though Mike spoke these words softly, they shocked me. I was stunned, and I couldn’t hear another word clearly. The sun was shining, and there were birds chirping and flowers blooming, but everything in the world seemed surreal. I felt like I couldn’t hear anything and felt extremely panicked.
I couldn’t remember anything Mike said after that. I only remembered that we went down the mountain and he sent us home. Before he left, he looked at me worriedly. He wanted to say something, but stopped short of it and eventually left.
Did I await his confession? Did I really await it? It was so surreal. I couldn’t believe it..
