Chapter 34: Hypocritical Passersby
Only after seeing this knight fall to the ground and no longer get up did the werewolf leader turn around and quickly move toward the other knights.
This action made some passers-by feel that something was amiss.
“Wait a moment, don’t run away.”
“Wait for your grandpa! Aren’t you going to wait until you die?!”
“That’s right, didn’t you see how powerful that werewolf’s attack was? Don’t just stand there, run!”
“Aiya, listen to me. Don’t you feel that something is wrong?”
“I found out long ago, but your brain isn’t right! Why don’t you run, instead of standing here waiting for death!”
“Tsk! I can’t be bothered to tell you.”
“Sigh, brother, let me tell you, that wolf seems to only kill the guards!! Sigh, sigh, you rascal, didn’t I tell you not to listen, scram!”
“Now that you mention it, that seems to be the case.”
“With the strength of that werewolf, killing a large group of ordinary humans in an instant is simply a matter of lifting a hand. No one could have lasted until now.”
“Also, I noticed that although a large number of people had fallen on the ground, those people had fallen because of their poor physical fitness. For example, those who were frightened to death, those who fainted, those who foamed at the mouth, and those who lost consciousness vomiting. Although it was all because of that wolf, it was not that wolf who had personally landed them on the ground.”
“The ones that were killed by that wolf seemed to only be guards and knights.”
“Sigh, it’s true. Only the knights are the ones really dying.”
“Hey, don’t climb on my shoulders. Look for something to prop yourself up.”
The three passersby stopped in their tracks and leaned against the wall by the side of the road. They lowered their heads as they whispered to each other.
However, they were still on the streets, not to mention that this was a street full of people fleeing in all directions.
Some people who were fleeing inadvertently heard their conversation. They all stopped in their tracks and started to survey their surroundings to confirm if what the trio said was true.
After looking around, they confirmed that what the three of them said was the truth. Then, the passersby started to tell the people who were running around.
As the news spread like wildfire, everyone on the street stopped in their tracks.
After hearing the news, the passersby who were hiding under the protective barrier of the knight quickly moved away as well.
As expected, their hypothesis was correct. The werewolf leader didn’t even look at the group of ordinary passersby who had stopped walking. His eyes were fixed on the guards from the very beginning.
Although the werewolf leader wasn’t interested in these ordinary passersby, when the werewolf leader brushed past them shoulder to shoulder, some of the passersby were still frightened by the murderous glint in his eyes, his hoarse voice, and the murderous aura emanating from his bodies. Some fainted, some died, some vomited, some went into seizure, and some flinched.
For those with poor mental fortitude, they could not escape any of these symptoms. Those that should flare up still acted up.
As the passersby who were originally hiding under the barrier of the Knights retreated, in the end, only the knights were left alone, struggling to maintain the barrier magic.
The area within five meters of the guards was completely empty. Not a single person could be seen.
When the guards saw that the target of the wolf head was them, they retracted their barrier magic and started to flee frantically.
Even those weak-legged knights quickly stood up and fled after using magic to recover their strength.
However, the funny thing was that the path that the guards were using to escape was completely blocked by the passersby.
When the knights fled to the left, the passersby blocked the way.
When they fled to the right, they moved in unison as well.
No matter which direction these guards and knights fled in, these passers-by would follow closely behind the knights, blocking their way.
This was ridiculous. Some of the passersby who blocked the guards’ knights had clearly received the protection of their barrier magic not long ago. Now, in the blink of an eye, they wanted to kill them instead. Ridiculous, truly ridiculous.
The knights tried to escape again and again, but they were all blocked by the mass of people.
After all, these people already knew what the werewolf leader wanted, and the thing was right in front of their eyes. How could they let it escape?
If they escaped, it was unknown whether the werewolf would turn to the ordinary humans as his next target.
Therefore, rather than having the werewolf leader shift his target to an ordinary human, it was better to have the former lock onto the knights. After all, there was a ready-made guard knight in front of them, it would be a waste not to use.
When the guards and knights saw this group of people blocking their way repeatedly, they started to go crazy and curse at this group of people.
“You bastards!”
“Have you all forgotten who was protecting you just now?”
“It’s us! It’s us, the knights, who are using the barrier to protect you!”
“Without us patrolling the streets day and night, how can you enjoy the flowers and moon every day?!”
“Without us protecting the city, all of you sons of bitches would have died long ago.”
“It’s us! That’s right!”
“We knight guards are the heroes of this city, not the paladins!”
“Those Paladins only know how to order us, but they do nothing.”
“You trash, you should thank us. You should kneel before us.”
“You trash! Trash! Get lost!”
“You bastards! Get! Lost!”
The knights were driven mad by this group of people. They waved their hands as if they wanted to cut down the people in front of them.
The knight tried his best to put his words as crude as possible, but to no avail.
The group of passerby remained expressionless after hearing what the guard had to say. They continued to block the path of escape, determined to sacrifice this group of knights.
The knight guards were so angry that their heads swelled up, and their entire bodies swayed left and right as if they had drunk a thousand glasses of wine. Their eyes were blurred as though they were in an illusion.
Swish!
The werewolf leader instantly appeared behind a knight. At nearly 2.5 meters tall, he was like a huge mountain that wanted to crush these short guards into pieces.
He raised a sharp, cold claw at the knight in front of him.
When the knight in front of the werewolf turned and saw this scene, he didn’t show the slightest bit of fear, because this knight’s spirit had already collapsed and he had become delirious.
The knight even waved his fists at the werewolf leader as if challenging him.
“Come on! You little… pussy…”
“I… I’m… not… afraid of you!”
The guard knight seemed to regard the werewolf leader as a little kitten because of the illusion before his eyes. He used a teasing expression to provoke the werewolf leader.
The werewolf leader didn’t think too much about it. He didn’t care if the knight guard saw him as anything else. In any case, the final outcome of this knight guard was only death.
The werewolf leader’s sharp claws shot towards the knight’s neck.
However, with a bang, the werewolf leader’s sharp claws that were approaching the knight’s neck stabbed into a white barrier.
“Another barrier!”
“Do you only know how to use barriers?!”
The werewolf leader muttered to himself in his heart as his gaze gradually drifted toward the tavern behind him.
This barrier of white light was however not activated by this knight guard, his comrades or the commander.
Instead, it came from Laite·Bellman, who was still inside the bar..
