Hello Mr. King - Chapter 93
Chapter 93: Yew
Naturally, Percy was thrilled that Yun Xiangxiang would say goodbye to him. He invited her to his farm enthusiastically.
Even though foreigners weren’t finicky about their guests giving gifts if it was their first time coming over, Yun Xiangxiang still wanted to do the part. Percy was an elder after all. But she didn’t know what she should give him.
“Any suggestions?” Yun Xiangxiang tossed the dilemma to her boyfriend.
Song Mian turned to the balcony. Yun Xiangxiang followed behind. She just noticed that there were a lot of potted plants there. Song Mian took one of them, “Give him this.”
A tree that stood about one meter was sitting in the flower pot made of Yixing clay. The leaves were green and yellowish, while crimson fruits dangled on it.
The fruits were glossy, round, and sparkling red. They were shaped like cherries and gleamed like gems. Their interspersing with the leaves made for a pleasing sight.
“This is yew!” Yun Xiangxiang gaped at the big plant, “How can you make them bear such pretty fruits?”
Yew was also nicknamed ‘the gold among fruits.’ It had spectacular medicinal value. It could purify the air, shield against cancer, fight against cancer, and shield against radiation. It was the best plant to have in the house.
The paclitaxel extracted from yew could be used to create skincare products. Skincare products that have this ingredient could moisturize the skin and regulate blood circulation.
But it was extremely hard for yew to bear fruits if it was planted in a pot. They wouldn’t be nearly as gorgeous as Song Mian’s even if they could.
“My father has a lot of experience in nurturing plants,” Song Mian laughed, “I learned a thing or two thanks to his influence.”
“Please be someone normal!” Yun Xiangxiang was speechless. Could he not be so versatile? She would feel the heat. However, she quickly said sternly, “You must have some feelings for it since you have kept it for so long. Let’s change it to something else.”
“I keep a great deal of plants. I’ll have someone send you one that’s better than this after you return,” Song Mian pinched the edge of the pot with one hand, while leading Yun Xiangxiang downstairs with the other, “Just give him this one.”
Yun Xiangxiang noticed that the pot should be half a meter long and forty centimeters wide. But Song Mian only used the strength of a few fingers to take it down from the balcony…
“Did you also learn martial arts?” Yun Xiangxiang turned her head sideways to ask him once they got into the car.
“Everyone in the Song Family has to learn some; strengthens their body,” Song Mian nodded.
She didn’t believe that in the least. Suddenly she remembered about her case, “Song Qian told me that the Song Family has their own Jiu Jitsu. Can I learn that?”
“Your body’s already flexible enough though,” Song Mian was driving. He answered without even looking at her.
Yun Xiangxiang’s blushed adorably, “What are you talking about!?”
They didn’t go any deeper than a gentle kiss on the day they opened up to each other that they would be a couple. What Song Mian said could cause a huge misunderstanding!
Song Mian’s lips curved upwards. Traces of a smile surfaced in his glimmering eyes.
Yun Xiangxiang would have already let him had it if Song Mian wasn’t driving. She said solemnly, “I’m learning it for filming purposes. As long as it doesn’t harm my body, I’m willing to take the time to learn.
“Of course you can train in it. Jiujitsu strengthens the body. Train hard in it, and it’ll help a lot in improving the flow of your meridians [1],” Song Mian answered sincerely. “I’ll ask Song Qian to teach you once you get back. But you might have to suffer a little in the early stages.”
“I’m not afraid of hardships,” Yun Xiangxiang was someone who grew up in hardships.
“I’ll get some decoctions and ointment for you when I get back. Song Qian will be notified on how to use them.”
Song Mian would naturally do his best to support Yun Xiangxiang. She forbade him from interfering in her career. He could only be more meticulous in other aspects, “But this isn’t something that can be mastered in a few days.”
“Then there must be something after a few months, right?” Yun Xiangxiang of course knew that she couldn’t learn all of it at once.
“What can you achieve after a few months depends on your talent,” Song Mian encouraged. “Your body already has great flexibility. This isn’t some rigid martial art that needs great strength and powerful bones. You’ll pick it up in no time.”
“I’ll be diligent,” Yun Xiangxiang decided. She turned her head sideways to take in Song Mian’s profile, “I’ll spend most of my time studying when I get back. My weekends are basically free.”
“I still have two patients to tend to here. And I have to attend an academic conference. I might be busy until the end of the month,” Song Mian elaborated on his schedule too, “I’ll video call you on weekends.”
“Sure,” Yun Xiangxiang wasn’t a clingy woman. She didn’t need to be accompanied 24/7.
And with who Song Mian was, it was destined that he couldn’t be by Yun Xiangxiang’s side a lot. He would spend twenty days in a month in different countries.
He wasn’t just a doctor. He was also the decision maker for the Song Family’s gigantic business empire. Some things his subordinates had no right to act as proxy to.
This was one of the reasons why his father didn’t marry. He too didn’t think about looking for a woman who stayed at home every day just waiting for him to return; whose whole life revolved around him. Such a significant other would push him into guilt and pressure.
What he had with Yun Xiangxiang was just right. Mainly because both of their personalities were compatible.
“It’s a shame my break isn’t long. Or else I would accompany you for a few more days,” Yun Xiangxiang still thought about how simple learning now became with Song Mian’s tutoring. It was fortunate that she still had Ai Li beside her. Not only could she tutor her, she could practice her English too.
“It’s okay, we’ll be able to see each other again after half a month. I’ll give you a surprise,” Song Mian smiled enigmatically.
Yun Xiangxiang raised her eyebrows in anticipation. However, she didn’t pry any further since Song Mian said that it was a surprise.
Both of them engaged in small talk. Their conversation was full of nonsensical topics. But they didn’t feel bored. It felt warm and cozy instead.
They weren’t people who pursued a dramatic love. A love that ran steadily and nourished everything quietly like this could tug at their heartstrings.
They finally reached Percy’s ranch after an hour of driving. It was vast.
Percy was rocking a cowboy hat and was in casual attire while he waited for them at the crossing. He immediately guided Song Mian’s car into the garage once he saw the plate Yun Xiangxiang told him.
“Mr. Percy, look at this gift I got you,” Yun Xiangxiang and Song Mian ambled to Percy’s side before introducing Song Mian to him, “This young sir here is my boyfriend, Sone.”
“He’s like a noble.” Percy had unnervingly sharp eyes. He saw through Song Mian’s quality with a single glance. After he praised Song Mian, Percy exclaimed in awe when he saw the pot that he was holding in his hands. “It’s gorgeous. Thank you, Yun. It gave me another stroke of inspiration for my creation.”
Yun Xiangxiang was half amused, half annoyed. Percy was a real workaholic. He could relate whatever he saw to jewelry design.
His eyes were still glued to it even when Song Mian moved it indoors to where Percy wanted it to be, “Yun, I already have an idea. I’ll make a drawing of it as your coming-of-age gift
Percy made that promise knowing that Yun Xiangxiang was only half a year away from turning 18.
