Hello Mr. King - Chapter 256
Chapter 256: A Bold Speculation
Ai Li got the answer soon after. She shook her head, “No criminal records.”
They had their own sources to determine if anyone had any criminal records, but not their whole history. They would have to hack into the national network, which was a crime.
“He looked at me weird,” Yun Xiangxiang locked eyes with the man outside for a moment.
She knew she was attractive. Anyone who saw her would be surprised, but rather than being pensive. The man had his guard up.
She noticed that he was leaning against the wall until she appeared. He quickly straightened himself. He was subconsciously getting his guard up.
Xiangxiang was just a girl. If he was on guard duty, he should be a mentally strong person. It was apparent that her looks didn’t seduce him.
Someone like that shouldn’t be fazed by anyone walking by. They should have expected it.
So why did Xiangxiang’s appearance make him react that way?
The answer? It was because Xiangxiang was an unexpected variable. He might have seen her before. That was why he got his guard up because he was seen by someone he might know.
Xiangxiang deduced one thing from that: What they were doing wasn’t for everyone’s eyes.
She wasn’t living in a five-star hotel, but since the crew and company couldn’t mistreat her, it wasn’t a dingy motel either.
Everything was just her guess. They couldn’t be used as evidence. If she called the cops and they failed to find any dirt, she would be in trouble. The haters would use this as ammo to attack her.
“He went in,” Ai Li reminded Xiangxiang, who was deep in her thoughts.
The CCTV in the corridor saw him entering the house and coming back out with two other men.
“Yi Yan’s back,” Ai Li pointed at the elevator. Yi Yan, his agent, and his assistant brushed past them.
The trio didn’t react to their appearance. They didn’t know Yi Yan.
“They don’t know Brother Yi, but they find me familiar…,” Xiangxiang thought about its reason.
She was more popular than Yi Yan, but she wasn’t always on TV. Dramas would be there all year long, but not films.
Their gazes were sharp, their air oppressive. They were not your average Joes.
Civilians wouldn’t look around themselves wherever they went. And these men were too cautious.
They were unlikely to see her on TV.
“They went down,” Ai Li followed them using the hotel’s CCTV.
Xiangxiang noticed Lu Jing was still standing outside the elevator. He must still be worried. Lu Jin was a famous actor, yet the trio didn’t react to even him.
Lu Jin looked at them quizzically. One of them felt his gaze and turned back to look calmly.
Lu Jin was a much more famous actor than she was. She appeared with him in a recent show, and yet they recognised her, but not Lu Jin.
In other words, they had never seen, “A Gathering of Shows.”
Which meant they didn’t know her through TV.
Then they could only know her through the news. But if they read entertainment news, they wouldn’t miss Lu Jin.
Aside from the entertainment section, she only appeared throughout the internet two years ago about her results. They wouldn’t read news like that.
Only one story was left. The news about her possession of the black jadeite. People would kill for that.
Xiangxiang made a bold guess. These guys were probably jewelry thieves!
When this thought popped into her mind, her heart pounded.
This was her uncorroborated guess, but the more she thought about it, the likelier it seemed.
If they were criminals, were they mere burglars, or were they robbers. If they were the latter, they might be armed.
Someone pressed the doorbell. Yun Xiangxiang jumped. Ai Li said, “It’s Yi Yan.”
Yi Yan brought something over. Ai Li opened the door. Yi Yan brought a basket of cherries. “I got a cherry tree back home, so my mom sent me a basket of cherries. Here, take it. It’s fresh.”
“Thank you, Brother Yi.” Xiangxiang took it.
“You don’t look good. What happened?” Yi Tan noticed that something felt off.
“It’s nothing. Just had some unhappy thoughts,” Yun Xiangxiang hid it from him.
She wasn’t sure about her guess. If she was wrong, it would be awkward if she told Yi Yan, even if he wasn’t an outsider.
But if she was right, they might pounce on him if he showed that he knew about them.
If they were criminals and stayed here, they might have gotten what they wanted and were ready to sell it.
Or they might be waiting for an opportunity to steal what they wanted. No matter the case, it was unlikely that anyone would die.
Since they were different from wanted fugitives, Yun Xiangxiang didn’t tell Yi Yan about them.
It was getting late. Staying in her room wouldn’t be too good. Yi Yan chatted for a while longer and went back to his room.
“Brother Yi’s room is next to theirs,” Xiangxiang saw it through CCTV.
“I can eavesdrop if you want,” the hotel’s soundproofing wasn’t great. If a wall was the only thing between them, Ai Li could easily eavesdrop on them.
“No,” Yun Xiangxiang denied the idea. It would alert them, and she despised this kind of behavior.
Through the camera, Yun Xiangxiang knew that Lu Jin had left. Since everyone had left, he probably thought it was inappropriate to disturb her.
Xiangxiang sent a message to Han Zhaolin.
[I saw some suspicious men near where I’m staying, but it’s just my feeling.]
Yun Xiangxiang sent her location and the clearest pictures she had of them to him.
She left out her suspicions about them being criminals. Uncorroborated conclusions could mislead him.
As Zhaolin was tasked to keep her safe, he would investigate the matter now that he heard the story and had the pictures.
Yun Xiangxiang then went to wash herself up. She left this out of her call with Song Mian.
Talking about it would just make him nervous. Zhaolin wouldn’t hide it from him if he found anything about it.
Yun Xiangxiang went to sleep after the call. Troubled by the events earlier, she couldn’t sleep well and picked up the faint sound of footsteps outside in the corridor.
Yun Xiangxiang sat up and went to look at the camera footage.
