Hello Mr. King - Chapter 229
Chapter 229: Turning The Tide
But Deng Yang didn’t say anything further about it. She had come across a lot in life, and she wasn’t someone who loved to gossip, nor would she think that all men were pigs just because she met a man who was one.
“Is it an urgent affair?” Deng Yang continued.
“I have to have it before July.” It was mid-May now. As Song Mian would celebrate his birthday according to the Chinese calendar, it would be around mid-July.
She could knit fast. One day was all she needed to finish it. There would be no problems if she had it early July.
But she still needed time to prepare the jadestone and to drill a hole in it according to the rope’s size.
“En, I’ll make a note of it,” Deng Yang agreed to her request.
With that, Yun Xiangxiang stopped asking further and hung up to let her rest.
The market didn’t have any ropes of quality. But Yun Xiangxiang didn’t have the connection to get the good ones. She sought out Deng Yang because she knew all about fiber, and would be involved with these, as she also designed the accessories too.
With the rope problem out of the way, Yun Xiangxiang started thinking about the jade problem and looked up purple jade since that was what she thought suited Song Mian.
Yun Xiangxiang thought it was meaningless to buy an expensive wristwatch. Song Mian didn’t wear one anyway. It was better to make a unique bracelet which he could wear every day, unlike the brooch which he could only wear on special occasions.
The bracelets Yun Xiangxiang had in mind that were based on his personality would go with any of the clothes he wore.
After checking online for a while, the only purple jades that particularly stood out to Yun Xiangxiang found were the purple jadeite and the purple Dushan jade.
The purple variants for both of these items were rare. Yun Xiangxiang could only ask Percy to keep an eye out for her.
Wu Zhao notified them about the recording of the show at night. It would be done on the eighteenth, and would air next Friday.
It would broadcast in the week before “The King’s Plan” would complete its run.
[Yun Xiangxiang: What’s the place?]
“A Gathering of Shows” was not recorded indoors. It was done outdoors, as promoting great media wasn’t the only content they had. They would also promote the local culture and food, which was why the show became popular after merely two years.
Even though the theme was based on the show being promoted that week, the place they chose wouldn’t be based on that. It wasn’t convenient to record in some places. Thanks to that, the places where they recorded the show would be chosen randomly.
That element of mystery would pique the audience’s curiosity. After all, they wouldn’t be able to guess where the show would be taking them based on the promoted media.
[Wu Zhao: Tengchong City, Yunnan Province.]
[Sun Qiluo: Wow, great choice. I love it!]
[He Xingzhou: We can go on a vacation there. The weather is great this time of the year.]
[Yun Xiangxiang: I heard about the beautiful scenery and the great food they had. I haven’t been there until now!]
Yun Xiangxiang had never been there in both her lives. Her film work didn’t take her there. She was surprised that going on a variety show could.
Excitedly, she went to talk with Du Changrong, “Uncle Du, can I have two more days of leave?”
“Why?” It was peculiar of her to extend her leave. As he knew how Yun Xiangxiang worked, Du Changrong was curious.
“Since I’m going to Tengchong City for the show’s recording, I want to have a trip there for a couple of days,” Yun Xiangxiang replied honestly.
“You can just give me any other excuse, you know.” Really, you went and said you want to have fun.
Even coming clean after she went to the place or telling him that it was a work necessity would be a better choice of words.
“Are you the kind of person who loves to listen to lies, Uncle Du?”
Du Changrong couldn’t retort to that, “I can’t approve four days of leave alone. If you can get the producer’s approval, I’ll give you your leave.”
“That’s a piece of cake,” Yun Xiangxiang went to look for the producer.
The producer was a Huan Yu staff. With the obvious moving up of the filming schedule, Yun Xiangxiang used that as an excuse, instead of being honest like she did with Du Changrong.
She told the producer that the recording of “A Gathering of Shows” would require her to take a four-day leave. The producer didn’t think four days was too long, so he approved it readily.
He had to give her some leeway because of He Wei. If he made life difficult for Yun Xiangxiang, He Wei would make life difficult for him.
Even though he too wanted to wrap it up early and to rake in the profits earlier.
Equipped with the anticipation for the Tenchong City trip, Yun Xiangxiang worked even harder. That night, Wei Shanshan posted a Weibo status with a voice recording.
[Wei Shanshan V: I have been in this industry for nearly three years. “People are born kind,” that’s what I thought. What I did not know, however, was coming across such a hot pile when I was in the washroom.]
The voice recording was a conversation between two people. The gist of it was that one of them was trying to bribe the other girl and some other crew to expose Wei Shanshan’s caustic personality and attack her.
Yun Xiangxiang was surprised that Wei Shanshan could obtain the voice recording. She didn’t believe she met this in the washroom. The voices in the recording might have belonged to girls, but she might have gotten it through another way.
It was a powerful counterattack though. Wei Shanshan’s fans were furious. All of them were as impulsive as she was. They tagged the official accounts of “Overseer of the Heavenly Destiny” and Brilliant Entertainment. In any case, they were ready to fight.
Yun Xiangxiang slapped her forehead. Such bravado could of course get her the temporary high, but she would have offended many.
With the current progress of “Overseer of the Heavenly Destiny,” the culprit must have already filmed many scenes. Exposing them now would just put the crew in a difficult spot.
They would have to switch the actress out and reshoot all the scenes, which would be a huge waste of resources.
It was Wei Shanshan’s nature to refuse taking the attack lying down or resolving the quarrel through receiving any compensation. But every crew had their own story. If every actor handled it like she did, nobody would want to hire her after this.
Yun Xiangxiang couldn’t fault her either. Everyone was different, after all. She only hoped that “Overseer of the Heavenly Destiny” would propel her up to fame, or else it would be a tough path for her.
Her fans’ behavior was doing nothing but worsening the situation. Wei Shanshan still hadn’t built the cachet that would make the company take any hits for her.
With resignation, Yun Xiangxiang quickly reposted the status and captioned it with an indirect reminder.
[Actress Yun Xiangxiang V: We should walk an honest path in our rise to success, not through backstabbing anyone. Nor should we involve any innocent men and women.]
At the first glance, the caption seemed to be chastising the backstabber, but Wei Shanshan got the message lying between the lines.
Riding on Yun Xiangxiang’s caption, she quickly consoled her fans, telling them that they shouldn’t try to pull the rug out from under anyone, nor should they blame anyone for this. If they did, they would be the same as the ones in the video.
Yun Xiangxiang had great momentum as of now. More and more people started following her during “The King’s Plan”‘s screening period.
The news article detailing about her being the highest grossing actress pushed her to even greater heights of fame. Naturally, her repost gained a lot of attention.
Song Meng instantly noticed what Yun Xiangxiang was thinking. She started guiding Yun Xiangxiang’s fans to calm Wei Shanshan’s fans down.
