Dungeon Hunter - Chapter 20
Chapter 20: Episode 5. Queen of Thunder (4)
“…Isn’t this a dungeon?” Yoo Eunhye asked, looking at a gigantic gate that looked like a lion’s mouth.
“If not a dungeon, what do you think this is?” Of course, it was a dungeon.
Yoo Eunhye looked like she was shocked. “There are… just two of us.”
“I heard good warriors can work with an attack unit made of two.”
“But… I know you are an amazing warrior, but not me. I have only been to the dungeon a few times.”
But I answered as if it was not a big deal, “Did you? Don’t worry, you will be in and out many times from now on.”
Yoo Eunhye looked like she was about to cry; that was not my intention. “Do you…. Hate me? You could have just told me that you hate me…”
“No. On the contrary, I like you.” If it was not this situation, my words could be interpreted as if I was asking her out.
“Then why do you want to kill me…?”
“Are you planning to die here? I wouldn’t stop you, but that would be a waste.”
“Wait…are you really here for the training? In the dungeon?”
“Yes.”
“Oh my god.” A two-man attack unit! Yoo Eunhye had despaired.
It would be possible if two people were both the best warriors, but with her abilities, she thought it was impossible to do this. She thought she would be a burden.
“Don’t use magic inside the dungeon; you need to fight only using your sword.”
“Huh? This sword was for me? I thought I was carrying it for you.” Yoo Eunhye was holding a longsword. She thought she was simply carrying it, but now she had to use it. She thought she would lose her mind soon.
“Yes. That’s the sword you are going to use,” I confirmed.
Yoo Eunhye almost fell down on the ground. While Yoo Eunhye was crying inside, I was making my own plan. Devils become stronger in the training room, and awakened heroes can become stronger quickly when they hunt monsters. Because hunting monsters was the fastest way to improve themselves, I thought maybe quests had some invisible experience points, because it didn’t improve anything visible.
Maybe I would be able to see it if the level of my Mind’s Eye went up. Just like potentials. The abilities depended on how you hunted them down. If you hunted them with swords, your physical abilities would be improved.
‘It is important to improve all the abilities equally.’ Let’s say there is a magician who has Intelligence 100, Mana 100, and the rest of their abilities are around 30. That magician can hit the enemy with a strong blow, but the magician’s body would bounce off by the power. So that magician would have to use small magic compared to their ability.
Magic was not an easy skill to use. It was like a double-bladed sword. It could bring miraculous power, but the magician had to take all the rebound.
“Ugh…I came in…” Yoo Eunhye murmured as she followed me into the dungeon. She looked really nervous.
I thought it was a bad idea to be too scared, so I cheered her up. “Don’t worry. I have no plans to let you die in a place like this.”
I meant it. Yoo Eunhye had the best level of potential. If I trained her well, I would be able to make her a warrior that was equivalent to ten strong warriors in the former life. Unless it was an exchange with a duke from Devildom, I had no plans to kill the person that I’d invited to my dungeon.
“I will trust you 100%.” Yoo Eunhye’s eyes showed her eagerness to survive.
I couldn’t help myself and laughed. My story of fighting two Orcs on the second floor was quite famous in the guild. People said that I could slay Goblins and Kobolds with a fingertip. I was sure that Yoo Eunhye had heard that, and that was why she was following me without any more questions.
“Good. Here comes two Kobolds.”
“No.”
“Get ready, but don’t use your magic.”
“I…I will try.” Her attitude had changed because she was so nervous. Yoo Eunhye had been to the dungeon a few times already. That meant that she didn’t mind killing monsters, and her Intelligence level was high, so she wouldn’t panic easily. Now that she was in, she wouldn’t step out easily.
“I can do it, I can do it, I can do it…” Yoo Eunhye was hypnotizing herself. She really wanted to meet the expectation of the unit leader. She desperately wanted to prove her worth to the leader who had handpicked her.
That was a good thing. I would have been really disappointed if she was still scared and wanted to chicken out. I liked the fact that she had a will to fight.
“There,” I told her quietly. “Look at how I fight the Kobold, and then the other one is yours.”
“Y…yeah.”
Krrrrr! Two Kobolds that had smelled the humans were running toward us at full speed.
When I reached out my hand to the empty space, a sword appeared in it. That was my Rare level sword with space magic engraved on it. It was the weapon that I got during my beginner protection period to kill a high-level monster. It looked like a regular longsword, but it was extremely sharp, so it was shining in the dark.
I held my sword with one hand and looked at the Kobold to tell Yoo Eunhye, “Kobolds have similar strength as you, but they have low intelligence. They can’t do anything more than a straight, light attack. Just like Goblins, you need to avoid their teeth and nails.”
I was about to demonstrate a movement to Yoo Eunhye. She wouldn’t be able to pick anything up if I moved as fast as usual, so it was important to show her with slow movement.
Krrrrr! Kobolds were small, and they would only reach my chest. They were small so that it was difficult to fight them, but they were so stupid that they weren’t challenging opponents as long as you knew how to fight back.
Tap! I kicked the ground to make the dust cover their sight.
The two Kobolds stopped for a second. In that brief moment, I pierced the head of one of the Kobolds. “They extremely short-sighted. They are all born with a horrible sight. If you cover their sight for a second, they panic. Use that moment to pierce their heads or cut them off.”
I pulled out the sword on the forehead of the Kobold and cut its head off right away. One Kobold was cleared. “Now, it’s your turn.”
Krrrrr! The remaining Kobold went on a rampage. Its eyes become bloodshot red, and it became snorty. It was clear that it was in rage.
Gulp. Yoo Eunhye finally put herself together. She was about to faint, but she didn’t.
I stepped back. I’d killed one, but I didn’t provoke the other one. The Kobold was aiming for the closest living creature from him.
‘I have no plans to let you die, but I am not going to be your protector blindly.’ Unless Yoo Eunhye was about to die, I was not planning to interfere. She had to do it by herself to improve her abilities quickly. Being in an extreme situation always helped people to use all that they had.
A wall was not something to overcome with someone else’s help. When you overcome your own wall, that had real meaning. Yoo Eunhye was facing her first wall.
“Huh!” Yoo Eunhye took a deep breath and stamped on the ground just like I did to make the dust cover its sight.
The Kobold stopped for a second. It was only 0.5 seconds, but Yoo Eunhye didn’t miss it.
Slap! Her attack was not deep enough. It just pierced the skin of the Kobold. Yoo Eunhye quickly pulled out the sword and aimed for its neck.
Just then, the Kobold held out its hand to attack, and thanks to that hand, it protected its neck…only to lose its arm.
“Oh!” When her best blow failed, Yoo Eunhye sighed. She was aiming for the neck, but she only cut the arm. What next? Her mind became blank, but she was still holding her sword.
‘No.’ It was probably because of her high intelligence, but she stood up strong. She also had strong support behind her.
Yoo Eunhye looked at the Kobold. The Kobold was in pain with its one arm gone. Its movement became slower, and that gave Yoo Eunhye a ray of hope.
‘Again!’ She raised her sword again. She knew she was not strong enough to pierce the head, so the best way to jump and hit it with all her power. A hit from above was the best way to put all her power into the attack.
Punch! Punch! Every time she moved her sword, a meat chopping sound came out. The Kobold was screaming, but not for long.
“Huh. huh…!” Cling-! Yoo Eunhye threw her sword on the ground. She was almost down on the ground and breathing heavily. It was only a two or three-minute fight, but she was wet with her sweat. The Kobold’s dead body looked like a piece of meat without a shape.
“Well done.” I smiled with satisfaction. I thought she would up the fight because I didn’t tell her what to do if her second attempt failed, but Yoo Eunhye managed to handle that crisis. She didn’t overcome the wall but instead broke it down. It was quite a satisfying scene to watch.
I gave her my handkerchief to clean up the blood all over her face. I then used the potion to cure her injuries. Her passive skill was activated and attacking me, but I didn’t really care. I was sure that it was painful, but it seemed like she didn’t realize her wounds. Yoo Eunhye was looking at me mindlessly for a while and then asked me, “Did… did I do well?”
“Yes, well done.”
“Oh…!” At first, she thought it was impossible, but she’d made it. The sense of achievement gave her a thrill that she never felt before.
She’d never done anything like this in any other attack unit. All the members of the attack units tried not to take her because of her passive skill. After the raid, when they were sharing the Core, she always felt like she was stealing it. Now, she didn’t have to. She just slew a Kobold without any help!
Yoo Eunhye was trying hard to keep remembering how she did it. Yoo Eunhye has been living with the idea that she was a loser, so this feeling that she could do something and be someone was the greatest treasure for her.
“If you want to stop, we can call it a day,” I said because I thought it was quite enough for the first day. I was happy that she’d done better than I expected.
Yoo Eunhye refused. “No…no. I can keep going. I think I can.”
“Are you sure that you are ok?”
“Yes.”
“If you think so, I won’t stop you.” The will was the key, I couldn’t stop her when she wanted to.
‘Not bad at all.’ In her former life, Yoo Eunhye was chicken-hearted. Whenever she felt danger, she ran away. She was safety-oriented in everything. Yoo Eunhye was different now. She was more of a warrior than a chicken-hearted fighter. If I gave her the right direction, she would become a great warrior.
‘I will make you a ruthless magical swordsman of thunder.’ I looked at Yoo Eunhye with shiny eyes.
We had enough time and portions. Now that I knew her willpower, it was time to do the work. It would be hard training for her, but I had no doubt that she would follow my lead well.
The Queen of Thunder! In her former life, she was famous as the great magician who controlled thunder, but this life, she would be better.
She’d become the famous magical swordsman of thunder.
