Dungeon Hunter - Chapter 149
Chapter 149: Chapter 48. Guardian (2)
The monsters were very diverse. There were all kinds of monsters: regular Orcs, Shamans, Great Warriors, and even Rhoads.
The number of monsters was roughly a thousand.
However, when I showed up, the monsters were no longer larger in number.
Behind me were 10,000 humans.
I raised my hands.
Then 50,000 flames appeared in the air. When I pointed my fingers at the Orc Lord, the flames charged towards him.
Boom!
Soon, there was a huge explosion, and the Orc Lord was heavily injured. The Orcs standing around their leaders evaporated without traces.
“Oh… my savior…”
“Savior!”
Many humans who were following me knelt on the ground. We had marched quite a distance in the last few days. They couldn’t eat much and were exhausted. The awakened heroes were more or less the same as humans. What kept them moving was their trust in me.
To humans and heroes, I was the messenger of a god. Perhaps some of them even viewed me as a god who represented goodness and came to punish evil. After all, what they thought about me didn’t matter much as long as they relied on and trusted me.
The humans did not doubt me even if I was accompanied by Dark Elves. Dark Elves and humans rarely got along. Instead, such uncommon companionship depicted me as a godly being in their eyes.
The less I looked like a human and the crueler I became, like a monster, the more humans were attracted to me. I couldn’t understand such an unexpected outcome at first. In retrospect, however, I could see that humans wanted a powerful being to protect them against threats. As long as the savior was strong enough to save them from monsters, humans didn’t care who the savior was, whether he was a monster or a fellow human being.
“I guess I fit their expectations perfectly,” I thought.
Hunters should know their prey very well. Therefore, they had to become one before they hunted one. The same logic worked in this case. I needed to know the monsters that tried to hunt humans to efficiently defeat them, and I was the perfect person to play such a role.
As far as I knew, I was the first demon to be sanctified by humans.
Of course, many in the past caused humans anger, regret, and suffering.
The fact that humans worshiped me made me feel weird. However, such a feeling was not bad.
My wings, which absorbed a large amount of mana, started flapping. They had become larger than five meters. When I added more mana to the wings, they emitted hundreds of small flames to the sides.
The flames were a combination of the skill of Pride and The Thousand Wings.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Fireballs struck the ground. The ground shook and smoke appeared from the places that were hit.
Screech!
Screech!
Two hundred Orcs were wiped out at once. The rest of the angry Orcs turned around and looked at me. One Orc Lord, whose body parts were burnt until bones were exposed, charged at me with his large sword.
The Orc Lord was fighting the members of the Devil Hunter attack unit, but it left its enemy and decided to attack me first.
Unfortunately, the Orc Lord never reached me.
Clang! Slash!
Without any hesitation, M3 charged at the Orc Lord and killed it after two swings.
The Orc Lord had some disadvantages. It was tired from the battle, and it had received a huge injury from my previous attack. However, even if such weaknesses were considered, it was amazing that M3 could slaughter the Orc Lord in just two swings.
“How dare you charge at my master, you ugly Orc!”
“Y-you are right.” Rose sniffed while putting her hands on her waist. Roy, next to her, nodded slightly.
While I was wiping out Orcs on the battlefield, the members of the Devil Hunter attack unit were also fighting hard. They were wise enough to cope with disadvantages although they were outnumbered. Furthermore, every one of them was an outstanding warrior. Whenever they encountered a good chance in the battle, they did not miss it.
“Eunhye! Water boom!”
“Electric shock!”
Lee Jihye was a Wizard of the Water. She created a bomb made out of the water and threw it where many Orcs were present. Following her, Yoo Eunhye, who was guarded by the Spirit of Lightning, shot electric waves. They were such a good duo that their attacks caused heavy damage to their enemies.
Boom!
Buzz!
The water bomb exploded, and the drops of water, which contained electricity, drenched the Orcs. The moisture thinned the Orcs’ skin, and the electrical charges then penetrated through their bodies. Shivering, some 30 Orcs fell to the ground.
Then there was Edward, who was striking the freaked out Orcs. Whenever his long sword swung, an Orc’s head was chopped off.
The rest of the attack unit, though they were not as outstanding as the previous three, was doing very well in the battle. They were indeed some of the best awakened heroes in the world.
“They have grown very well,” I thought.
I had been absent unexpectedly for a while. However, the Devil Hunter attack unit had gotten stronger. I stopped intervening in the battle and decided to watch it. I stepped aside and opened the Mind’s Eye.

Yoo Eunhye and Edward Windsor had grown a lot. Their statistics alone had doubled since the last time I saw them. At present, the two had powerful skills and prestigious titles, which showed how much effort they had put in to improve.
Edward was one of the 10 strongest human warriors during my previous life, and he was becoming the best version of himself. Yoo Eunhye was not on the list, but she was also as strong as Edward.
With such statistics, they could fight even high monsters. In fact, Yoo Eunhye was fighting the Orc Lord, and she was dominating the fight.
“Ugh!”
“Fcking Orcs! Why the fck did they show up all of sudden?”
Swearing, the members fought with the monsters and defeated them. When the battle was over, they were all exhausted, but they turned around and looked towards me.
There were more than 10,000 humans behind me, and I turned the tables while they were all watching me.
Lee Jihye approached me first.
“Thank you for your help. My name is Lee Jihye, and I am the acting unit leader of the Devil Hunter attack unit. It is a part of the Guild of Heaven’s Will.”
Lee Jihye stretched out her hand.
She did not recognize me because the armor that I was wearing hid my identity. The Infinity Armor and The Thousand Wings covered my body, and the skeleton mask hid my face.
Indeed, I looked different under this armor. Furthermore, I had grown taller. No wonder she could not easily recognize me.
Staring at Lee Jihye’s hands for a while, I turned around.
Lee Jihye stopped me as though she was in a panic.
“Hey! Wait! Stop! Where did you get that mask? It represents our Devil Hunter attack unit!”
She took out a mask that looked similar to mine. When she tried to follow me, Rose blocked her way.
“Don’t you dare try to flirt!”
“Flirt? Wait… A Dark Elf?”
Lee Jihye’s eyes widened.
She’d had a bad experience with Dark Elves. They were much more aggressive than Dwarves, whom she had once dealt with. As a result, Dark Elves were categorized as monsters, and they were especially threatening in dark dungeons.
However, they were now accompanying humans.
No wonder Lee Jihye was so surprised.
Rose ignored Lee Jihye, who was lost in awe, as she clicked her tongue silently.
“Miss Fairy told me that I need to prevent women from flirting with the master. Well, she’s uglier than the queen, but she knows who’s good-looking.”
Rose and Lyhee spent time together from time to time. When they did, Lyhee always gave Rose some advice, which sometimes included women.
Lee Jihye freaked out because Rose was still a very young Dark Elf, but she harshly bashed her.
“Who are you?”
“Humans call my master the ‘savior,’ which is a term used to describe a person who accomplished something that no one else could.”
“Savior…”
Lee Jihye looked at the 10,000 people standing behind the Dark Elf.
The large crowd was following a single person.
Some of them were bowing, hitting the ground with their heads, and chanting the word “savior.”
Rose turned around quickly.
“We’re busy. If you want to follow us, come. Otherwise, go away. Let’s go, Roy.”
“Okay.”
Rose took Roy’s hands and walked away.
Lee Jihye was lost in thought. Then Yoo Eunhye and Edward came to her.
“Jihye, what are you going to do?”
“I don’t know. It seems that he is the person that I hear about on the radio once in a while…”
Not all communication channels were done. Monsters had cut the supply line and isolated people, but some people managed to communicate with each other regularly even in such situations.
Among them were people who claimed that the savior had come. They also informed others about the whereabouts of themselves and the savior. The Devil Hunter attack unit tracked down the locations and reached this battlefield to see who the savior was.
“That person… he looks somewhat familiar to me.”
Yoo Eunhye remembered the man in the skeleton mask who just walked away from her.
“Don’t you remember that we decided to forget about him? He’s already dead. Even if he somehow survived physically, he is dead to us.”
“Anyway… you make the decision. You are now the unit leader of the Devil Hunter attack unit.”
Yoo Eunhye heaved a sigh.
She looked stressed out.
Lee Jihye thought for a moment, then she nodded.
“Let’s join them. It seems that a large number of awakened heroes are also following them. In times like this, it’s wise to move as a large group.”
The demons and monsters invaded Korea abruptly. They seemed to know the weaknesses of humans, and no one could fight them back.
The invaders wiped out the capital, Seoul, before the Korean government could take action. The enemies were clever enough to prevent humans from gathering.
Despite such hindrances, people in Korea were slowly and secretly gathering. The larger the number of people that gathered, the higher the chance of pushing back the enemies.
“Who is he? Is he really the savior?” Yoo Eunhye reflected.
The awakened hero did not know who the man was. However, it was evident that the man was extremely powerful. He had crushed the Orc Lord and hundreds of Orcs in a snap. Even Yoo Eunhye, who was considered the strongest awakened hero now, could not do that.
The man did feel very similar to the previous unit leader of the Devil Hunter attack unit. However, it was impossible that their previous unit leader, who was long gone, would be here at this moment and being called the savior by other humans. Yoo Eunhye tried to suppress her thoughts and started cleaning up.
Humans were crazy creatures.
When they started believing in something, they tended to get submerged in their beliefs and neglect their surroundings and reality.
Then most of the time, they became blinded, thinking that their beliefs and ideals were the only path to glory. Of course, such strong principles were sometimes helpful, since humans would try to strive and stick harder to their goals. On the contrary, zealous beliefs led to destruction.
Woo!
Oh!
The humans gathered behind their leader, and they were making uncanny noises that were neither chants nor groans.
“They’re weird,” Edward commented as he looked around.
“No, they’re not,” Yoo Eunhye disagreed.
The two were following the crowd.
Only those who strongly believed in the savior could move forward among the crowd. Edward and Yoo Eunhye were not the most enthusiastic believers, so they stayed behind.
“Eunhye, don’t you think everything is going strangely? I can’t help but think that way…”
“Everything is completely destroyed. They lost everything and were literally in the dark. Then someone shed light and stretched his hand out to help. No wonder why these people believe that the man is their savior,” Yoo Eunhye murmured to Edward, but she, too, had followed a person enthusiastically until two years ago. The man she followed often disappeared without a trace, but he would always show up to help her during the most dangerous moments.
Now, that man was gone for good. The world was coming to an end, and that same man who would always come back during times of great threats did not show up this time.
He did not show up even when Yoo Eunhye had lost her home and some of the most important people around her.
“Well, I know how you feel. If you disappear one day without any trace, I’ll go mad, too.”
“Don’t be a fool. You can live by yourself.”
“I may be strong enough to survive, but what good is my life if what I want the most is not there? Ha!” Edward smiled coyly. His smile lightened up the mood.
Lee Jihye, who was next to them, observed the crowd and spoke. “Where are they going?”
The answer came from somewhere else.
“We’re going to the Land of Heaven. It’s the place with no worries or concerns, and our savior is leading us there,” one of the people walking along nearby answered them. The man was weeping.
However, Lee Jihye argued with him, “Do you believe in angels? Their top priority is killing every single demon. Humans are lower on their list.”
“They are fake angels! Only the savior knows the right path to heaven. If we follow the savior and his children, we may reach heaven.”
“I am too young to go to heaven yet.”
“Your faith is weak! Do you still doubt the miracles that the savior has shown us?”
“I admit that the man is indeed very powerful, and I also thank him for getting rid of monsters for us. However, I don’t think he’ll show us the right way to heaven,” Lee Jihye strongly replied.
The man sighed.
Then, some other people who were also part of the crowd joined the man and surrounded Lee Jihye.
“You’re not qualified to join us!”
“She’s a heretic!”
“A heretic!”
Some of them responded radically, and Lee Jihye freaked out.
“Just because I don’t believe what you all do doesn’t mean I’m a heretic! Stop it!”
People around her started to pull her hair and clothes. The members of the Devil Hunter attack unit rescued her from the crowd. Soon, the members and the crowd were confronting each other.
“You’re ugly!”
A voice boomed out of nowhere.
“Huh?”
“Ah… The child of the savior…”
When a Dark Elf girl appeared, the crowd split into two, creating a pathway for her, just like Moses’ parting of the Red Sea.
Those who were attacking Lee Jihye also stopped all of sudden.
The Dark Elf stood in front of Lee Jihye and the rest of the Devil Hunter attack unit members. She spoke to them.
“Master wants to see you and the others who came with you. However, don’t you dare flirt with the master,” she warned. “I won’t allow it. Only the queen can be with the master. Do you understand?”
Lee Jihye had no idea who the queen was.
However, she would rather not ask the Dark Elf about the queen’s identity.
After delivering her master’s message, Rose turned her back on Lee Jihye and walked away.
“Savior!”
“Ah…”
“Woo!”
Soon, the people bowed down.
“Let’s go.”
Lee Jihye came back to her senses when Yoo Eunhye spoke. “Oh… Okay. Let’s go.”
Lee Jihye, gulping, started walking away.
Meeting the leader of the crowd felt like walking into a lion’s den.
