Dungeon Hunter - Chapter 146
Chapter 146: Episode 47. Roy and Rose (1)
The thing I needed the most was information. I needed a clear understanding of what I missed in the world. It was not possible to take action without knowing the relationship among demons, the invasion of angels, and the position of humans.
And Gaparam, a Lich, had this information.
Gaparam!
I remembered he was the Lich who researched about life. It was his ultimate goal to make the perfect homunculus.
“It was late to fulfill the promise,” I told Gaparam.
“It’s okay. It wasn’t about the homunculus, but I’ve made my own progress.”
I had promised to build a workshop and support his research. However, unintentionally, I spent one year and eight months in the Underworld. Since he could not use the point without my permission, there was no way he could go on with his research or build his workshop.
Even so, Gaparam wasn’t upset. He understood and didn’t seem to care. I turned my gaze to the two children next to Gaparam.
“Who are they?” I asked.
“They are the twins that I have been teaching these days. They are bright, and their learning speed is amazing. Go ahead, introduce yourselves to him,” Gaparam answered, motioning for the kids to come to me.
The two kids had dark skin with pointy ears. They were Dark Elves that seemed about four or five years old.
It was unusual that they were twins, but they looked familiar. Between them, the girl walked towards me first and bowed her head politely.
“Hello, Dungeon Master. My name is Rose. I heard that the Dungeon Master gave me my name, Rose. It is such an honor.”
“I…I am Roy.”
Unlike Rose, Roy was timid.
‘They’ve already grown up,’ I thought.
Now I remembered the two children. I had named them not long after they were born.
That time, I roughly named them after ‘neuroses’ because of Julium. It felt weird to see them again.
Rose looked up at me with her round eyes. “Your Majesty had asked me to look after the Dungeon Master if he is in trouble. I am still young, but I want to learn quickly to be helpful to you, Dungeon Master.”
“M-m-me too…”
I smiled. The little girl was saying funny things. In particular, I liked Rose’s unyielding eyes. I expected that she would be a confident heroine when she got older.
“She’s smart,” I commented.
“Correct,” Gaparam agreed. “They get along well and learn things quicker than others. They’re going to be a lot of help in my research soon. Roy is a bit shy, but he can still overcome it.”
In the third auction, I had purchased a skill book called “Twins’ Psychic Communion”. I opened my Mind’s Eye and saw their names attached in the skill category.
It was obvious that the skill had been successfully learned, helping them master things quickly.
“Gaparam, I heard that you can help me. What can you offer me?”
We had enough small talk. As I asked, Gaparam took out a thick book.
“First, please take this. I have been writing down what had happened and my thoughts. You will be able to catch up on what has transpired so far.”
I got the book and skimmed through it. Gaparam wrote daily reports about the things that happened in the dungeon, external explorations, and so on. Even details about the weather were included.
Gaparam said with a smile, “I am a researcher. I like to keep a record of things. It isn’t just limited to the dungeon. I was interested in this place, Earth, so I sent many familiars to examine it. There isn’t a fixed topic, but it should be enough to fill in the gaps for you.”
“It will be a great help.”
There was a lot of information. It would take me two days to finish reading.
As I skimmed through the book, Gaparam went on, “And… Do you remember M3?”
“You mean the Golem I bought at the auction?” I confirmed.
It was the completed version of M1 and M2. It was a Golem, but it had a pretty polished look, seemed more like an artificial knight. Of course, I remembered it.
However, I didn’t expect it would come out now. Even the highest of the high-grade monsters were wounded, so M3 must have been smashed already. But Gaparam still mentioned it.
“I have been repairing and improving it every time since it was damaged.”
Clap!
Gaparam clapped his hands, and a silver knight with red eyes came out.
It was covered with soot. It was missing a finger, and there was a crack that seemed to be forcibly repaired.
Tut. I clicked my tongue. It was surprising to learn that it had not been wrecked after so many battles.
“There are many wounds,” I noticed.
“It fought against a lot of enemies, have almost been destroyed several times. But I managed to save it. It became stronger, too. I transformed it accordingly based on numerous battles.”
“Transformed?”
“The core of M3 needed work. I used a bit of the knowledge of humans on Earth. I connected multiple cores to make it more powerful.”
I cupped my jaw. What Gaparam was saying aroused my curiosity.
There were certainly some great parts of the technology of humans. However, I never thought about taking advantage of it. However, Gaparam tried his hand at it, and he seemed to be satisfied.
“I won’t tell you complicated, very scientific parts. I applied nuclear fission, made them into four pieces, and connected them again to make it move more efficiently. Roy and Rose were very helpful here. I connected their ‘telepathy’ skill to M3’s core, so M3 started to grow by itself.”
“Interesting…”
M3 had been completed. There was no room for further growth. It was mentioned even in its description. But Gaparam broke that limit. I looked at M3, examining it from head to foot. Then I quickly opened the Mind’s Eye.
Name: M3
Capability:
Power 92(+5), Intelligence 0(+41), Speed 91(+5), Strength 84(+5), Mana 85(+5)
Potential (352+61/340)
Others: It is an evolved being from the beginning. It does not grow anymore. Since it does not need ego, its intelligence converges to zero. However, it is the strongest Golem that does whatever it takes to do the owner’s command. It is an improved version of M1 and M2.
** The core was divided into four. The Lich Gaparam has made M3 more efficient to use.
Skills: Gale (Ex U), Serial Attacks (Ex U), Roy and Rose (Ex U)
There was a hidden option, and the pure and additional stat points had changed a bit. Furthermore, another skill called ‘Roy and Rose (Ex U)’ was created.
It changed. I was surprised. I never thought this would be possible.
‘It is not just combining or strengthening. He transformed it with pure technology,’ I reflected.
It was even written in ‘Others’ that it was complete.
‘If Oswen, Gaparam, and Dwarking worked together, something useful would come out,’ I contemplated.
I was curious. I couldn’t stop thinking of what would come out if these three worked together.
“Roy and Rose can move M3. They helped a lot in the last battles,” Gaparam informed me, pleased.
I remembered when I had killed the four demons and Titan, I had glanced upon the silver armor.
Apparently, Roy and Rose had controlled it. I looked at them, eyes widened with surprise. Rose had a lively stance while Roy lowered his head.
“Was this also part of the research?” I asked Gaparam.
“Yes, in a way. If I had the right equipment and workshop, then I could make it more polished.”
“Okay, then. I will invest three million points right now.”
“…!”
Gaparam was astonished. He knew how high three million points were. He had had no help for one year and eight months, so this excited him.
“Really? Three million points?”
Of course, it was not just to invest. I set a condition.
“Really. But you must work with Oswen and Dwarking. I think you guys can be helpful to each other, producing great results.”
Gaparam snorted. “Of course, I welcome Dwarking. He is very handy. But I’ve never heard of Oswen before.”
“The Blacksmith of Twilight, Oswen. You’ve never heard of him?”
“I don’t know. I guess he became famous when I was researching in the mountain. He can’t be that great.”
It was natural for Gaparam not to know who Oswen was despite his fame. Originally, Oswen was human, and their fields of interest and expertise were completely different. I totally understood Gaparam’s misgivings.
“He will surely be of great help to you.”
“Hmm…alright. Since you highly recommend this guy, I will work with him,” he agreed in a patronizing manner.
I was sure that Oswen and Gaparam would get along well.
“I will leave the permission for the points to Lyhee. If you need anything, just ask her.”
“Alright. You won’t regret it.” Gaparam briefly bowed his head.
As I walked away, Gaparam hurriedly went on, “Oh, I will leave my assistants here. I won’t be able to teach them while building the workshop. The children are really excited to see you, Dungeon Master. Maybe you can have them run some errands or something. Please take care of them.”
Gaparam had not spent much time with me, so he didn’t know me well. I was a demon. Taking care of others was not my nature.
Rose was looking at me expectantly.
‘Well, since they can control M3, I guess they will be helpful,’ I considered.
They were young, but it seemed like they would be useful.
I continued to contemplate, ‘They can become a Dark Elf Lord, a floor master…’
I recalled that the potential of the two children was very good. When I checked it with the Mind’s Eye, they had grown well. If I assisted and nurtured them, then they would become powerful monsters in the future.
“Leave them behind,” I spoke curtly.
“I will immediately begin building the workshop then…”
I began to move to the top floor as Gaparam left.
“Follow me,” I said.
“Yes, Sir!” Rose answered with a cheery salute.
Roy answered almost inaudibly and followed behind.
<hr />
There was a huge amount of content in the book that Gaparam handed over to me. It was neatly arranged by date, so the information was easy to process.
『April 5th. Pandemonium noticed the dungeon, and his demons started to attack here. It seemed that a watcher was left to stand guard at Oculus’s dungeon. It was very likely that we were followed when we retreated.』
『April 9th. We had the second battle. It was safely blocked. The demons had entirely surrounded the country called South Korea, where the dungeon was. It seemed like they wanted to utilize the location as their supply depot. My familiars were blocked when they tried to go out of the country.』
『May 18th. The human counterattack had begun. The attacks of the demons had slowed down. The humans enlisted the help of awakened heroes, joined ‘guilds’, and declared war against the demons.』
『August 23rd. South Korea’s capital ‘Seoul’ was taken. The supply depot had been made, and the demons were carrying out the full-scale dungeon invasion.』
『December 31st. Tens of thousands of angels had descended all over the world. I confirmed that there were Archangels and Cherubim. The demons, including Ariel Diablo, left their dungeons and announced their existence to the world. South Korea was still being devastated by four demons, and the seventh floor of the dungeon had been breached.』
…
『July 3rd. I confirmed with my familiars that a small number of awakened heroes were being treated as ‘points livestock’ by the demons. They raised humans and earned more points. They summoned powerful monsters using those points. The angels were able to recover one dungeon. On this day, the 12th floor of this dungeon was breached.』
…
Each entry proved to be insightful. Based on this, I was informed of the events that transpired during my absence.
I didn’t do anything for more than half a day and focused on reading. As I put the book down, I found Rose, kneeling on the floor and looking at me. Roy, with a red face, was pressing his feet as if he was having a cramp.
“What are you looking at?” I asked.
“I was looking at you, Dungeon Master,” Rose simply answered. She then went on, “I want to know more about you, Dungeon Master.”
The way she looked at me suggested that she had heard a lot about me from others. However, she wanted to hear it directly from me. She was really shrewd.
Meanwhile, Roy’s face turned pale. He was probably embarrassed by his sister’s nosiness. Then again, if they had heard about me, they would know how firm I was. What Rose said could be considered rude, but she seemed to be genuinely curious about me.
I actually didn’t mind since she was not trying to rebel against me or something, and I planned to raise them as floor masters anyway.
I stood up from my seat and said, “I will leave the dungeon. Make preparations and follow me.”
