Dungeon Hunter - Chapter 12
Chapter 12: Episode 4. Deceptors (1)
I dressed up in my black suit and tie and used wax to fix my pomade hairstyle. A suit and pomade hair combo was the perfect match, I thought. Humans were more attracted to the dandy style than other creatures.
Then, I drove my car and headed to the appointment. My driving skill was quite stable by now. Of course, I had my license; it’d only taken three days to get one.
Concentration was my strength, and my memory was very advanced compared to humans. Moreover, I was quite good at riding things, so driving a car was not a challenge to me. 1
It took around 20 mins by car to arrive at Suyou Station. Right next to the exit no. 3, I was able to see the two-story cafe called Gil Café, the place of the appointment. I couldn’t find a parking lot, so I headed to a paid parking lot to park.
As soon as I entered the café, people looked at me.
“A celebrity?”
“Oh my god, he is so tall.”
I was able to hear the comments…so humans were indeed attracted to dandy style. I wasn’t wrong. In addition, I was a relatively good-looking person. Even in Devildom, they fancied me quite often.
It didn’t really matter to me since my sole concentration was strength, but I thought the standard of beauty was not so different between Devildom and middle earth.
Well, in Devildom, being handsome was not a real advantage to guys anyways. It was possible for a strong female devil to take a handsome one and live a comfortable life for a very brief amount of time, but that wouldn’t last long. I saw many of them abandoned when the strong female devil got bored of them. In the end, their lives were never pleasant.
On the other hand, the beauty of a female was a strong weapon. Some nobles took beautiful girls into their haram and cherished them. Even if they got bored, they could offer the girls as rewards to their army, so beautiful girls were quite useful in many ways.
That was none of my concern, but it was just a thought that went through my head.
I pulled out the mobile from my jacket and dialed the person.
After a few ringtones, someone answered.
―Hello?
It was the voice of a guy. The voice was calm.
“Where are you?”
―Who is it?
“Randalf. I’m on the ground floor at Gil Café.”
―Oh, Mr. Randalf. Come up to the second floor.
I took the stairs immediately and went to the second floor. A man greeted me with a wave of his hand.
They pulled a few tables together to sit. There were already seven of them, so it seemed like I was a bit late.
The guy who greeted me stood up and offered a handshake. “Welcome. I’m the unit leader, Yoon Hyuksu.”
I used my ‘The Mind’s Eye’ to see the status window of Yoon Hyuksu.
Name: Yoon Hyuksu
Occupation: Warrior(Guarder)
Title: N/A
Abilities:
Power 31, Intelligence 25, Speed 28, Strength 33, Mana 27
Potential(144/231)
Others: N/A
Skills: Strong Blow(N), Chase(N)
There wasn’t much on his potential. The Chase skill looked a bit interesting, but since Guarders needed to bring the monsters, it wasn’t anything special I should look into.
I took his hand and answered, “I’m Randalf Bruciel.”
“Oh! Did you come to Korea?”
My skin was quite fair, which wasn’t usual for a Korean. It was natural that they thought I wasn’t 100% Korean. That was my set-up, so I didn’t want to deny it. “Sure.”
“That’s why your Korean was a bit…. anyway, you are really good-looking. You can see my female unit members blushing, right?” Yoon Hyuksu commented and turned his head around.
There were three female members. When I look at them, they all avoided eye contact with me.
“Hi,” I said simply.
“Ok. Let’s sit down first.”
I followed his recommendation and found my seat. It seemed like other male members were uncomfortable with my presence. They were in different outfits; I was the only one who’d suited up.
“We are walking into the dungeon…will that be okay in your suit?” a male member commented, clicking his tongue. He was looking at me with a bit of hostility. He didn’t have any malicious intent, but it seemed like he was a bit jealous.
Soon I understood why. They were looking at the female members. Some of them had makeup, and while they weren’t super-model hot, they were still quite good looking.
I didn’t bother answering such jealousy. When the air became a bit heavy, the unit leader Yoon Hyuksu started to talk. “Haha. We can always change if we need to, right? All our female members are in their skirts as well. Let’s introduce ourselves first. I’m the unit leader Yoon Hyuksu. My occupation is Guarder, as I wrote on the board. I’m very good at rounding up the monsters, so don’t worry. It’s my pleasure to meet you all.”
Yoon Hyuksu turned his head slightly, and the guy who was right next to him who’d had a silly smile since the beginning started to introduce himself. “I’m the sub-leader, Kim Inpil. My occupation is Necromancer. I can control the dead body of Kobolds or Goblins.”
“Wow, There’s an occupation like that?”
Everyone looked at Kim Inpil with surprise. Nobody had seen the Necromancer occupation before, even on the website of awakened heroes.
“My real job is an undertaker, so maybe this occupation was created accordingly.”
Sometimes occupations changed because the heroes met special criteria, but usually, the awakened heroes got their occupation according to their jobs. It was clear that a Necromancer was a rare occupation. He was only a hero and he could manage dead bodies? His occupation interested me, so I opened his status window right away.
Name: Kim Inpil
Occupation: Warrior(Necromancer)
Title: Controller of the dead(Ex N, Mana+2)
Abilities: Power 16, Intelligence 33, Speed 13, Strength 14, Mana 45(+2)
Potential(121/275)
Others: N/A
Skills: Necromancer(N)
His abilities were quite unstable. His physical abilities were nearly the worst, but his Intelligence and Mana were on a high level. High Mana was not always a good thing. To fight well, one needed high endurance. Even if he learned a strong magic spell, if he used one or two shots, he would lose all his strength. It was always good to have balanced abilities.
Even so, the Necromancer occupation was a new one, even for me. I’d seen some special occupations, such as Elementalors who could control the elements, fairies, or the Guardian of Animals. But I’d never seen a Necromancer who could control dead bodies. His ability was closer to that of monsters or devils.
Although the occupation sounded fancy, the real ability wasn’t as fancy as the name. They could control one or two Goblins and Kobolds at most.
‘Title.’
Well, he deserved a little praise for one more thing: title.
The level was important, but I knew how difficult it was to get a title and how powerful it was as well. An Exceptional Normal level title was impressive for him.
“That is great!” Yo Sungjin commented with shiny eyes.
Being an undertaker was not an attractive occupation, but Necromancer sounded impressive.
Dungeons were dreamlands where they could make a big fortune on a single occasion. It was dangerous, so it was not a bad idea to get to know someone who has a rare skill.
“Haha. It’s nothing,” Kim Inpil laughed. He was tiny, but his laughter was quite loud.
When people calmed down, the guy next to Kim Inpil started to introduce himself. “I’m Lee Jihye. I’m a magician who uses water-related skills. Nice to meet you.”
“Kim Suhwan. A warrior. Nice meeting you.”
“Park Euntak…well, a Sif.”
They all introduced themselves briefly, and then it was my turn.
Everyone looked at me, and I introduced myself. “Randalf Bruciel. Close combat-related occupation.” It was shorter than any others, and I didn’t tell them what my occupation was exactly, but nobody tried to argue with me. There were a lot of people who didn’t want to reveal their information, so it wasn’t weird if I was just one of those private ones.
“If you are something related to close combat, I’m sure you have a high level of Power and Strength. Are any of them over 30pt?” Yoon Hyuksu asked me.
Since I had to join them for the raid, I had to provide some reliable information, so I answered, “Both are over 30pt.”
“Ohh. That sounds great.” Yoon Hyuksu stood up again and talked to the seven members of the unit. “Let me introduce myself again. I’m the unit leader, Yoon Hyuksu. We are planning to get into the dungeon tonight, so let’s have a short briefing. Since Mr. Randalf and Mr. Park Euntak are beginners, I will give you some details.”
“Ha, the beginners? Two of them? It’s not a twelve people unit, don’t you think that’s a bit risky?”
“Don’t worry. I’m one of the top ten in Korea, so if the experienced attack well enough, there’s nothing we have to worry about,” I said defensively.
“I thought you came in your suit because you were very experienced, but now we all have to rely on our unit leader,” Kim Suhwan remarked sarcastically. He looked at me and laughed a bit. He found a chance to have the upper hand and decided to pretend he was a strong one.
Yoon Hyuksu broke into a cold sweat. He knew why Kim Suhwan was acting like that. Men are sad animals; when there’s a man who looks better, others feel a little inferior. He sighed inside. This couldn’t be good. It would be better to spend time to make the team better than spend 30 minutes on the briefing.
“Guys. Why don’t we go to eat something? I know a great Korean place. We can do the briefing there. My treat.” 1
“Wow! You are a great unit leader!”
The girls were especially cheering for him. It was around lunchtime. They were all hungry, so lunch sounded better than a boring briefing.
Yoon Hyuksu thought it was working out as he planned and smiled. “Anyone bring your car? My car is a bit messy, so I think I can only one person with me.”
All the guys raised their hands. Four cars. We had enough rides.
“Then let’s pick up our cars and meet up at the crossroad in front of the café.”
It was a short break. All the other guys showed some kind of confidence. They looked like they were trying to measure up to each other. It seemed like an invisible war had begun.
The girls followed them, laughing and having their own chitchat.
I walked behind them, slowly checking their status windows.
‘They are all loud but empty?’ When I checked everyone’s status window, I was simply disappointed. Today, I would be able to watch a basic raid. It was disappointing that there was nobody with any useful potential. Still, it wouldn’t be a complete waste of time if I hung out with them and tried to connect with them. There would be some conflicts for sure, but that was exactly what I wanted. I wanted to learn from the bottom. Doing that, I would learn what I need for my dungeon as well. I needed to learn more about humans and awakened heroes.
The Guild of Heaven’s Will was a different story. As long as they are influenced by Kim Yongwoo, they wouldn’t treat me as a regular member. They had their own system for raiding, so there was nothing I could really learn from them.
Systemized raiding was something I saw enough in my former life.
“…?” I had to stop for a second.
A car suddenly stopped in front of me. It was an open sports car. It looked quite fancy, and the driver looked familiar to me.
He was one of those guys from the Gil cafe. His name was Kim Suhwan. The one who ruined the ambiance by attacking me for no reason.
“Cool, isn’t it?” The guy smiled showing his teeth.
“I’m leaving. Take your time and then you can miss it.” he’d just finished his words when he sped up his car and left.
Vroom! With a strong engine noise, the flashy blue sports car was gone.
“Hmm…” I took a little bit of time to think about what he meant.
‘Vanity. He wanted to brag about his ride,’ I decided. His point was if you can’t compete with his car, just don’t come.
I didn’t know much about what kind of cars there were, but at least I knew what kind of car I was driving.
‘The devils brag about their rides as well. Maybe humans have a very similar way of thinking,’ I mused.
One of twelve dukes rode a pure magic dragon. He would go to the battlefield on it. With the breath of the magic dragon, hundreds of devils melted down and died. So if you rode such a thing, it would give you strength on the battlefield.
I don’t really know much about such things, but I envied him for that.
I shrugged and walked into the parking lot.
