Chapter 88 Rely on Each Other
Shen Qianshan couldn’t accept what happened in a short time. He didn’t know how to explain to the Empress that she didn’t need to abort the baby. He found she had no idea of the situation, but he didn’t think it was necessary to protect her.
“What do you think?” Shen Qianshan’s eyes became cold. He looked completely different from before and seemed to be more serious.
The Empress didn’t respond. Since they woke up on the same bed, they had been quarreling. They didn’t quarrel for a result but for venting their resentment and complaints about what happened. No one was to blame, so they had to hurt each other.
“It’s a baby. No matter who its father is, you shouldn’t abort it now that you have been pregnant. If you dare to abort it, you will be punished by God.” Shen Qianshan said more seriously than he did in each quarrel before. His voice was calm and extremely firm. It was the first time that he had regarded her as unreasonable. He didn’t have such a feeling even when she once wanted to kill him with Shen Zhongbai.
“Be punished by God? Good point!” The Empress moved closer to Shen Qianshan. With a smile frozen on her face, she looked as serious as Shen Qianshan. Then she continued, “The man who makes me pregnant doesn’t need to take the consequences, while I can’t abort the baby in my belly. Did anyone ask if I wanted the baby? Am I just a tool for childbirth instead of a person?”
Her tone was as scarily indifferent as his, but her words stabbed his heart like a knife.
What did they do wrong? Were the sixteen-year-old Gu Qiang and Shen Qianshan wrong instead? The Empress was clear that it was not their fault.
But it made her feel unhappy that she had to take the consequences no matter what the two teenagers did.
Shen Qianshan reached out his hands to hold the Empress into his arms. He didn’t like her, but he knew they could rely on no one else but each other in this strange world. They didn’t have to quarrel or argue about who was right and who was wrong. Instead, they just wanted to vent their anger. If they vented it on someone else, that innocent person couldn’t understand it at all. Therefore, they had to vent it on the other one in the same situation.
However, the Empress refused. She turned around to dodge and looked extremely calm. It seemed that she had vented all her anger and resigned herself to it silently.
When walking past Shen Qianshan, she turned around and said indifferently, “Now that we are both tormented when we stay together, why do we have to live together? Why not break up peacefully?”
She touched her belly. There seemed to be a movement, but it was not obvious. Immediately, she recalled her aborted baby.
Since she was the Empress, her kid couldn’t avoid being implicated. But what did her baby do wrong? She admitted that she was not innocent, but she should be responsible for the mistake she made, not the baby.
Shen Qianshan looked at the Empress’s eyes. Under such a circumstance, he understood what the Empress meant. When he quarreled with her before, he just said some harsh words out of anger. What made him angry was that he had a wife without reason and the woman didn’t have a heart of gold. But he had never thought about changing it because he knew something couldn’t be changed.
Now he saw despair from the Empress’s eyes. What did it feeling like? It seemed that she knew her life could not be changed and she had to resign to it.
“Calm down. It’s not the end.” Shen Qianshan grabbed her hands. With cold eyes and a serious look, he looked almost the same as before, but there seemed to be something different.
When the Empress met his eyes, she felt less agitated and restless. Now she knew what it was like to be calmed by someone with only his eyes.
Without saying anything, she turned around obediently and returned to her room. Everything seemed the same, but actually it was not. She regarded herself as supernumerary. Events were in progress. During this time, she seemed to play a role that she disliked.
Shen Qianshan looked at her back. She was wearing clean and exquisite clothes and she had a good figure, but her back looked miserable.
He knew she was poor, and so was he. They were both thorny and couldn’t warm each other. After all, they both had stubborn pride.
That night, the Empress leaned on the soft couch and closed her eyes for a rest after drinking a cup of warm tea.
The door was opened quietly. Without opening her eyes, she ordered coldly, “Get out!”
No matter who the comer was, she was in no mood to greet him or her. So many things were imposed on her and made her stressful.
With a tray on the hand, the comer glanced at the Empress. The latter’s temperament changed a lot recently and lost her temper easily, making everyone in the mansion scared. Sun Linhua’s eyes sparkled. She had been out of the water prison for five years, during when she remained cautious here and avoided showing up around the Empress. But the hatred couldn’t be suppressed in her heart drove her to act.
The baby in the Empress’s belly was Shen Qianshan’s. God knew how long it took her to accept the fact that the man she loved had slept with another woman and they had a baby.
Why could that woman have a baby with Shen Qianshan and become his Princess? Sun Linhua could have reached that position.
She pressed her lips and said quietly, “Princess, the medicine is to prevent miscarriage. Be sure to take it.”
The voice was familiar, but after a second thought, the Empress found it had never existed in her life.
The Empress thought it was familiar because she once saw the woman in the memory of Gu Qiang.
This woman was called Sun Linhua. She looked sweet and elegant like a girl from a noble family. but the Empress knew she was not a kind person.
“Medicine to prevent miscarriage? Who asked me to take it?” the Empress put on a faint smile as if she was clear about Sun Linhua’s trick. In the duke’s mansion, her position was just below Shen Qianshan’s. It was normal that someone envied her high position, and she could understand.
She was clear about herself since she could remember things in childhood. No matter what she owned, it would be coveted by someone else. It seemed that what she owned was good, such as her husband or position. It was even difficult to maintain her position as the eldest daughter of the Gu Family.
Sun Linhua’s back began to sweat. She was afraid that the Empress would recognize her. What she brought was harmful, but she could feed it into the Empress’s mouth in millions of ways.
Was there anything that couldn’t be done? Sun Linhua had decided to kill the baby in the Empress’s belly at all costs.
“The physician asked you to take it.” Sun Linhua answered slowly.
The Empress sneered, waved her hand, and said, “Put it down. I will take it when I want to.”
Sun Linhua put it on the table reluctantly and said, “Your Highness, be sure to take it. The condition of the fetus in your belly isn’t stable enough. If you don’t take the medicine as the physician advises, …”
The baby had better die soon! Sun Linhua wanted to curse loudly, but she knew who the woman opposite her was and she was not qualified to talk back to the latter.
The Empress looked up coldly. Sun Linhua swallowed back the words on the tip of her tongue, retreated, and closed the door.
The Empress turned around and swept the medicine onto the ground from the table. The bowl was expensive, but she had no hesitation.
She knew the baby in her belly was innocent, but did she deserve the punishment? Wasn’t she innocent?
Hearing the loud breaking sound, Gusu Liang rushed in and said with a blaming tone, “Your Highness, how can you do that?”
Gusu Liang had worked for the Empress for many years and was used to her different temperament. But it was the first time for her to see such an indifferent and resolute Princess.
The Empress kept silent. Gusu Liang continued, “Your Highness, do you hate the baby so much?”
She looked the Empress into her eyes as if she wanted to see through the Empress’s heart immediately. But how could it be possible?
“Leave me alone. I’m tired.” The Empress said after a long silence. But Gusu Liang shook her head firmly. She couldn’t go away now. No matter what difficulties the Empress encountered, she had to stay with her. Though she could not do much, she could at least comfort the Empress.
She witnessed how different the Empress became recently. Though the Empress was serious in the past, she didn’t care about the trifles and worked hard for what she cared about. However, now she was extremely irritable as if she would do something unreasonable anytime. She seemed to be different and didn’t love the duke as firmly as before.
The Empress turned around. Wondering why Gusu Liang hadn’t left, she said coldly, “Will you disobey my order?”
Gusu Liang bit her lips and answered, “My Lady, if you come to your sense later, will you regret not being nice to the baby in your belly?”
The Empress was surprised and recalled her former kid again. It belonged to her and Shen Zhongbai, unformed and innocent. She touched her belly. In her memory, that kid didn’t survive and even left no traces. She didn’t know why. It seemed that it was just a dream of her and the kid, and no one else remembered it.
