Coming Kingly Son-in-Law: Don't Provoke the First Daughter - Chapter 30
Chapter 30 Investigation
“What are you doing?” Shen Qianshan asked. It was enough to send a chill down Ziyan’s spine. He was too powerful. Ziyan had seen him angry before, but she didn’t expect that he seemed to be angrier this time. She just pushed Gu Qiang. Was it a big deal?
Thinking of it, Ziyan calmed down, looked up at Shen Qianshan in a stubborn way and pouted, “I don’t want to see Sister Qiang to be so close to you. Do you fall in love with her?”
Why was everything related to Gu Qiang? Gu Qiang stood aside embarrassedly and explained to Ziyan helplessly, “Your Highness, it is not like what you imagine.”
But Shen Qianshan reached out his hand to stop Gu Qiang and told Ziyan, “It’s none of your business. What you should do is to be an infanta and not meddle in my business.”
Then he patted Gu Qiang’s back lightly, signaling her to leave right away.
Gu Qiang was surprised for a moment. It was a little embarrassing to leave Ziyan here alone. It seemed that Ziyan misunderstood something. Though Gu Qiang was indeed close to Shen Qianshan these two days, there was nothing between them.
Of course, it was unnecessary to explain it to Ziyan. Gu Qiang parted her lips and didn’t say anything at last. She went to chase Shen Qianshan, but he had disappeared.
The Ninth Duke seemed to capable indeed. Gu Qiang walked behind him, feeling her warning was superfluous.
Without doubt, the best horse might stumble. Perhaps the Ninth Duke would have formidable adversaries. If Gu Qiang could help him, she would try her best. After all, he had helped her a lot.
While Gu Qiang was thinking, Shen Qianshan went far and disappeared. The huge palace was full of people coming and going. Those included maids, eunuchs, and imperial concubines. However, Gu Qiang felt she was alone here.
Gusts of cold wind blew around. Gu Qiang turned around and saw a majestic hall nearby. A horizontal board above the hall was inscribed with clear gilded characters. But Gu Qiang found she couldn’t see the characters clearly.
She didn’t know why. When she looked at the three characters, her eyes couldn’t help rolling down. She wiped them and then moved on slowly with heavy steps. She was exhausted physically and mentally.
What did she struggle for? To change her destiny. It was a good excuse. To give herself a better life, it might be worthwhile to take these things.
Gu Qiang returned to Gu Mansion in the afternoon. When she just returned to her house, Ting Feng walked to her. Without asking anything, she told Gu Qiang the investigation result.
“My Lady, I have investigated clearly that the rumor was spread by servants of the Third Prince. Madam and the Third Lady probably had heard of it early, so they asked you that question.” Ting Feng said.
Gu Qiang turned around to look at Ting Feng. The latter was very calm after sharing her investigation result and didn’t seem to wait for Gu Qiang’s praise at all.
Gu Qiang nodded and said with a faint smile, “Thank you. You helped me a lot.”
Ting Feng turned around suddenly and looked at Gu Qiang with strange eyes. Though her master was different now, Ting Feng had begun to look after and protect Gu Qiang since she was young.
At that time, the whole yard was the most desolate place in Prime Minister Mansion. Though it was different now and Miss Gu Qiang was in a different situation here, Ting Feng felt lonelier.
Obviously, now Gu Qiang could protect the small yard. Ting Feng was not Gu Qiang’s guardian any longer.
Shen Qianshan returned to the palace in Xiaoyao Mountain. He sat in a pavilion before a lotus pond. Fragrance permeated the air. He smelt carefully and found it was the pear blossom fragrance of Gu Qiang. The scent lingered around Shen Qianshan’s nose tip.
“Su Ge, why is the pavilion filled with the fragrance of pear blossom?” Shen Qianshan turned around to ask a man in black beside him. The man and Jin Ye looked alike. He was Jin Ye’s brother.
The man called Su Ge smiled embarrassedly and shrugged, “Your Highness, there is no fragrance of pear blossom. It’s autumn now. Even if you can smell the fragrance of pear blossom, it’s just the scent of face powder, because there are only pears in this season.”
After explaining it, Su Ge turned around calmly to look at Shen Qianshan.
Shen Qianshan turned around suddenly and cast a glower at Su Ge. The latter was startled. He lowered his head immediately and looked at his shoe tips resignedly.
Shen Qianshan took a deep breath, waved and told Su Ge, “Just leave it aside. Investigate Gu Qiang.”
Su Ge raised his head again and said embarrassedly, “Your Highness, we have investigated Miss Gu before. There is not so much information about her. No matter how we investigate…”
Before Su Ge finished, Shen Qianshan turned around and glowered at him. He swallowed back the remaining words on the tip of his tongue and left in a hurry.
Why did she say he was in danger? According to Shen Qianshan’s investigation, she had changed since she fell into water. Many people in the world would be different after they experienced something, but Shen Qianshan had never seen that.
As the Ninth Duke, he knew that no one in the world could kill him, though he hadn’t enjoyed all glory and wealth since he was born. However, what was the matter with Gu Qiang’s eyes? She seemed to look at a dying person. Her eyes were filled with too much indignation or even sympathy.
Shen Qianshan boasted such a high position. Did he need sympathy from a woman who even couldn’t protect herself? Gu Qiang was besieged on all sides now. Too many things happened around her. It was amazing that she could spare time to care about him in this situation.
The woman was thin and small, but she seemed to have limitless power. Shen Qianshan felt Gu Qiang seemed to know everything.
Soon after Gu Qiang returned to her yard, a granny came over. She stood at the gate of the yard, glanced inside and then covered her mouth. Though she had come to the desolate yard many times, she still felt disgusted.
Chui Xue was sewing clothes under a tree in the yard. Turning around and seeing the granny, Chui Xue stood up immediately and pointed to her anxiously, “Granny Zhang, what brought you here?”
Granny Zhang gave a contemptuous look and told Chui Xue, “Call your lady out right away. Madam is waiting for her.”
Then she left quickly. It seemed that she didn’t want to stay here at all. Meanwhile, people living here didn’t want to see any outsider, either.
Chui Xue cursed in a low voice. Then she turned around helplessly, entered the house, and told Gu Qiang, “My Lady, madam is waiting for you.”
Gu Qiang had taken off her white clothes. She looked calm. The clothes she was wearing now was light blue and looked refreshing. It showed her figure off nicely and she looked very beautiful.
“I got it. Ting Feng, go with me.” Then she left. After hearing what she said, Ting Feng rushed out. Chui Xue felt strange. Though Chui Xue didn’t know why Gu Qiang didn’t take her, wouldn’t she feel sad when she was left in the yard?
With such a thought, Chui Xue sat back to her chair resignedly and continued sewing the clothes.
When Gu Qiang got to the main hall, Ye and Gu Zhihua had been seated there. They looked anxious. When they saw Gu Qiang, their eyes glimmered.
After giving a salute, Gu Qiang sat down. No one served tea to her. Ting Feng stood behind her and gave her a cup of tea kindly.
Ye coughed lightly and then smiled at Gu Qiang, “Qiang, what did Empress Dowager talk to you in the palace?”
Gu Qiang had expected that they were desperately eager to know it. It could be seen from their eyes and Gu Qiang’s trembling hands.
“Mother, nothing important. Just a small talk.” Gu Qiang picked up the cup and smiled faintly. Gu Qiang wouldn’t tell them what they wanted to know, because she wanted to make them nervous, scared, and curious.
“How could it be possible? If she said nothing, why did she order you into the palace? Don’t lie to us!” Gu Zhihua stood up suddenly, pointed to Gu Qiang and shouted.
Gu Qiang put the cup on the table and wiped the drops of water on her sleeve with a handkerchief. Then she looked at Gu Zhihua’s eyes and said calmly, “What if I do?”
Anyway, it was Gu Qiang’s business. At most, it was the business between the Third Prince and Gu Qiang. What was the relationship with Gu Zhihua? Was Gu Qiang obliged to tell them everything?
Hearing that, Gu Zhihua was furious and her eyes rolled down.
Ye wore a cold face, pulled Gu Zhihua down helplessly and said, “Actually, we are not very curious about what Empress Dowager talked to you. But the Third Prince has sent someone to ask if you will agree the marriage with him.”
Before Gu Qiang showed her astonishment, Gu Zhihua jumped up in a rage and turned around to shout crazily at her mother, “What marriage? Why didn’t I know that?”
Ye turned around suddenly and detested Gu Zhihua’s response. She also wanted to know it. Why did the Third Prince begin to talk about the marriage with Gu Qiang? Did their relationship really progress last night?
