Coming Kingly Son-in-Law: Don't Provoke the First Daughter - Chapter 22
Chapter 22 Song Yun Died
Then Gu Qiang found she had one more memory, in which she met Princess Changning at the spring feast and Gu Zhihua infuriated Princess Changning when appearing and wearing fancy clothes with the pattern of a peacock.
Gu Qiang’s hands were trembling. When these scenes were replayed in her mind, she had to prop herself up against the wall so as not to fall.
Fifteen years had passed. However, when these scenes were replayed in her mind, she still felt her heart blocked by countless cotton balls, and it was difficult for her to breathe. She also felt her heart surrounded by thousands of thin silk threads, which were twisted bloodily in her heart. Why?
Then the scene was interrupted. Gu Qiang’s hand became swollen because of being poisoned, and a man appeared. He was the Ninth Duke.
Gu Qiang’s heart became motionless instantly. In her memory, she had never had any personal contact with him. What the hell was this?
In March of the 47th year of Chongwenwu.
The night view was beautiful. Chirps that couldn’t be heard clearly before became thunderous around Gu Qiang now. But it seemed that she didn’t hear them at all. What she had written in the diary remained there and her handwriting was still clear.
Gu Qiang opened her eyes wide, waiting for the important moment.
Time went by slowly, but Gu Qiang suffered torment. Then, the candlelight flickered and only one word appeared in the diary: OK.
A single word made her burst into tears. Finally, she was not lonely anymore. There was also…another her.
Though the two persons were the same one, she felt as if there was one more herself.
Of course, the present Gu Qiang didn’t know the other one talking with her had predicted what’s happening now and recorded it in her own memory.
That meant when Gu Qiang died fifteen years later, she could have two memories. One was about her past, while the other was created by her.
The candlelight flickered again, and the word in the diary disappeared gradually. There was nothing left on the yellowing paper, but her heart had been filled. She didn’t know how she felt. She might be satisfied or reassured. She felt asleep contentedly without taking off her clothes.
The next morning, Ye was sitting in the main hall with a cold face. She sent Song Yun there and gave him a chance to take advantage of his gender and “please” Gu Qiang. However, a servant reported that Gu Qiang’s house was very quiet last night.
Ye had a vague feeling that it was not so simple as she imagined.
Jiang Min was sitting beside Ye and looking at her coldly. Although Ye was a member of the Prime Minister Mansion, Jiang Min thought she was qualified to speak in the presence of Ye. After all, she was the sister of the late mistress of the Prime Minister Mansion.
But Ye kept silent. She had drunk up a pot of tea and seemed to be waiting for something. Jiang Min didn’t think it was a good time to speak.
Song Yu was sitting nearby and fiddling with her hair. The ambiance of the main hall was depressing. As a young girl, it was impolite for her to cut in, of course.
Soon, Gu Qiang came over through the corridor before the main hall. She was wearing a pinkish dress. Her hair was worn simply at the back of her head and pinned with a pear blossom casually. She looked peaceful and smiled warmly.
Looking at Gu Qiang approach, Ye felt as if there was some firewood in her heart that was about to burn.
Gu Qiang walked straight to Ye, saluted decently, rose and then intended to sit on a nearby chair.
Ye cast her fierce eyes at Gu Qiang and something occurred to her suddenly.
Now that Gu Qiang appeared here without a scratch, that meant Song Yun didn’t make it. Where was he now?
Ye was sulky to think that Song Yun was not clever and Gu Qiang had changed completely for unknown reasons. It was supposed to be a good plan, but why didn’t Gu Qiang come to the end as they planned?
Ye picked up her cup and raised her eyebrows. Before she drank the tea, she heard Gu Zhihua scream suddenly in her room nearby.
Gu Qiang had no expression. Hearing the scream that was loud enough to break the sky, she raised her lip corners imperceptibly, but the smile disappeared soon.
Ye was startled, and her cup dropped on the ground. With a crack, it was broken. Then she rushed towards Gu Zhihua’s room crazily.
Jiang Min and Song Yu still didn’t know what was going on. Before they drank their tea, Gu Qiang turned around smilingly, looked at Jiang Min and said faintly, “Aunt, why are you still sitting here confusedly? Why don’t you go and see?”
If you didn’t go and see, how could you know how miserable your dear son’s death was? Jiang Min always doted on her son. If she saw the scene, she might be dead scared.
Of course, Jiang Min wanted to argue with Gu Qiang. But Gu Qiang’s expression told her that it was not simple.
Then Jiang Min ran to Gu Zhihua’s room with Song Yu. Gu Qiang walked slowly behind them. Ting Feng and Chui Xue exchanged their glances secretly and pretended that nothing had happened.
Gu Zhihua’s yard was close to the main hall. It was exquisitely decorated. Though it was small, its ornaments and trees were all rare.
When Gu Qiang walked to the door of the yard with Ting Feng and Chui Xue, she saw Gu Zhihua wearing her pajamas, huddling in a corner and trembling. Noticing Gu Qiang enter, she looked up at Gu Qiang with resentful eyes.
Ye stood by the bed and inserted her long fingernails deeply into her flesh. Why was Song Yun here? He was sent to knock out and rape Gu Qiang! Besides…Ye went forward and reached out her hand to test if he was breathing. Of course, he was dead and had become stiff.
Ye’s hand shivered and covered her mouth at once. At this moment, Jiang Min rushed in with Song Yu and saw her dear son lying on Gu Zhihua’s bed. Then she looked at Ye’s action. No matter how stupid Jiang Min was, she knew what it was.
Then Jiang Min threw herself to the bed and called her son loudly and wildly.
Gu Qiang stood before Gu Zhihua, clasping her hands and looking calm. Ting Feng and Chui Xue bit their lips and lowered their heads behind. Though they were restless, their Lady didn’t seem scared of anything, so they managed to calm down.
Ye rushed out of the room, pointed to Gu Qiang and shouted, “Did you do it? Did you?”
Gu Qiang had never seen Ye’s such expression. Her mouth was wide open, and her blue veins stood out. Her eyeballs almost dropped out of the eye sockets. It seemed that she was itching to tear Gu Qiang into pieces.
Seeing that, Ting Feng and Chui Xue stood before Gu Qiang immediately to protect her from being hurt.
Ye almost went mad. Gu Qiang was thin and short, but she responded quickly. She grabbed the collars of Ting Feng and Chui Xue and dodged aside.
She wouldn’t be blamed for it in any case. Gu Qiang turned around and said something to Ting Feng. Then the latter left immediately.
When she just walked two steps, the Old Lady staggered into Gu Zhihua’s yard with a group of servant girls and grannies.
In fact, Gu Qiang just sent Ting Feng to invite the Old Lady. She knew the Old Lady wouldn’t stand by her, but she really hoped that the Old Lady could fight with Ye before death.
Ye failed to attack Gu Qiang. When she wanted to pounce on Gu Qiang again, Gu Zhihua rose from the corner suddenly and held Ye back.
The Old Lady stood at the door, knocked three times on the stone floor heavily with her cane and shouted in an unclear voice, “Shame on you! What are you doing?”
The Old Lady was still prejudiced against Ye because of her ill-considered wording before. Unexpectedly, Ye behaved in this way today. If the steward didn’t tell the Old Lady, Ye might lose the last dignity as the mistress of the family.
Ye stood still with clenched teeth and glared at Gu Qiang. After saluting to the Old Lady, Gu Qiang moved aside and kept silent.
Jiang Min rushed out of the room, knelt down before the Old Lady and cried tearfully, “My Lady, my son is dead! Dead! He is dead inside. What can I do?”
It was self-evident how important Song Yun was to Jiang Min. Song Yun’s death made Jiang Min feel that the sky would fall.
Hearing what Jiang Min said, the Old Lady became nervous instantly. She and Ye were both cruel enough to kill a servant girl as they wanted, because it was deep-rooted in their mind that servant girls couldn’t be regarded as humans.
But Jiang Min’s son was killed. Though he couldn’t be compared with the noblemen in the capital, he had fame and prestige. If others knew that he was killed in the Prime Minister Mansion, the mansion will be humiliated.
A granny brought a chaise longue for the Old Lady. She sat down, pointed to Jiang Min and said, “What can I do? Your son died in the room of my unmarried granddaughter. If it’s known by others, how can the reputation of the Prime Minister be maintained?”
Gu Qiang stood aside and lowered her head respectfully. She listened carefully and could find the breath of the Old Lady disordered. Of course, the Old Lady didn’t know. Perhaps she thought the globefish was delicious.
Jiang Min wiped her tears and snot with her sleeve and looked up at the Old Lady with doubt. Her lips moved. Then she asked sadly, “My Lady, do you mean my dear son should be dead?”
Which was more important, the reputation of the Prime Minister Mansion or the life of my son?
Ye stood aside and calmed down finally. Gu Zhihua’s servant girl went over and covered her with a coat. She didn’t look like a drowned mouse as before.
