Chapter 137 Similar Face
Still kneeling on the ground, the beautiful but pathetic woman seemed to have accepted her fate. She indeed had enjoyed a good time after being freed from the brothel.
“As you have caught me, I am at your hand,” said Murong Shu, her face looked miserable but shockingly plain as if she was not afraid of death anymore.
Gu Qiang looked down at her. It would be a waste of her face if they killed her, but if they kept her alive, she might become a snake in the grass in the future, and it must not happen.
At this moment, Shen Qianshan spoke up, “We can put her in Xiaoyao Mountain.”
Gu Qiang nodded, although she didn’t know what he was planning.
Gu Qiang spent that night on Xiaoyao Mountain, resting in a room at the end of the corridor built above the pond. The curtains were pink, embroidered with complicated patterns, and the same-colored hangings of the bed were flowing in the wind. She sensed a faint fragrance here, which was definitely the smell of a woman’s makeup.
There must have been a woman living in this room before. Did it mean Shen Qianshan was seeing another woman behind her back?
It didn’t make sense. If he loved another woman, why would he be keen on her? Was it because of her background?
She had never wanted to resume her memory so badly as she did now. If she could remember what had happened, she wouldn’t have lost in bewilderment.
Quickly, the night fell, and Gusu Liang walked in to send her the food. After a glance over the room, she took a seat and said, “No one has ever cleaned this room as it had been emptied for long. You only need to make do with it for one night, my lady.”
Not caring about it, Gu Qiang asked, “Who used to live here?”
Gusu Liang paused, not knowing whether she should tell her the truth or not. The woman who had been living here was Sun Linhua, and Gu Qiang hated her. So she’d better keep her mouth shut.
“Well, this has been the guest room all the time,” said Gusu Liang as she looked away, giving a quick clean of the room as if that was only a simple question.
Gu Qiang knew she was lying simply by a look at her. Her lie made Gu Qiang more suspicious.
But instead of saying anything, she just cleaned herself and got on the bed.
Late at night, lights were lit outside the window, creating a beautiful scene. The chirps of insects echoed one after another, the sound of which was way louder in the silent night.
There was no sound in the room. But in the distance, there seemed to be people talking, the sound of which trailed off in the wind.
Gu Qiang flipped over on the bed, murmuring. She felt she was lost in nihility.
She couldn’t see anything but a long-lasting stifling haze in this place.
She frowned. Even though she knew she was in a dream, she called out, “Is anyone here?”
As she had expected, nobody answered her. She fell onto the ground helplessly, not even noticing that the ground was wet.
Suddenly, a light appeared in the not-far-distance, moving closer.
Her heart started to beat quickly; instead of being nervous or curious, she felt scared. What was that? Could it be a monster?
She didn’t know whether she would feel the pain in a dream had the monster bitten her. But she would rather feel it as the pain could wake her up, or she would have to stay in the dream and endure the endless torture.
She longed for a happy ending even when she was not in reality.
Getting back on her feet, she started to fumble for the light, hunching over. Finally, she made it.
It was the lantern light held by a woman who stood with her back to Gu Qiang as if she was looking into the distance.
What was she looking at? There was nothing but haze around them.
But Gu Qiang was caught in a greater shock when she did a careful survey of that woman; she looked exactly the same to her.
Did she see herself in the dream? So what was she looking at?
Plucking up her courage, Gu Qiang moved forward and stopped at a place three steps away from her. She cleared her throat, and let out a voice that even she found strange, “What are you looking at?”
The woman remained still as if she hadn’t heard her talking. Could it be a statue? She doubted any sculptor in the capital could be so talented and skilled to forge a statue as vivid as this.
As she remained still, Gu Qiang made up her mind and walked right in front of her, preparing to scream at the moment she saw her face.
But that was her face. When their eyes met, Gu Qiang felt a shudder run over her body. This was indeed scary, seeing a woman who looked exactly the same as her, even the face, movement, and expressions.
This was… her. But this was quite odd even for a dream.
“I’ve been waiting for you for a long time,” the woman spoke with a slight smile. Gu Qiang had never seen such a pleasant smile on her face before.
It was as pure as the spring water. Catching a sense of sweetness in it, Gu Qiang felt her high-strung nerves were finally soothed, and a lump suddenly came to her throat that made her almost cry.
Holding it back, Gu Qiang kept standing still, expressionless, “Are you going to tell me anything?” she asked in a soft tone.
Now that she lost her memory, her past had become an enigma. People often said time will tell. But for a woman who didn’t even know about the question, what could she get from time?
She hoped so urgently that she could get instructions from someone about what to do and how to do it. And she also wanted to find someone she could trust, so that she could share the burden with her.
At this moment, that woman suddenly spoke up, “You really should look at what kind of monster you’ve become.”
Finishing that, she suddenly became hideous; the smile disappeared, and her mouth widened to her ears. With her eyes twisted and a sinister smile on her face, she was like a monster described in an ancient book.
Gu Qiang didn’t move. Although she was scared, she kept her steadiness on the surface, not knowing why she would do this at a time like this.
“Look at yourself! How could you not notice that you have already become a monster? Does it just prove that you are like them?” said the monster-like Gu Qiang as her face and body twisted into a strange shape, then she disappeared into the nihility.
Gu Qiang didn’t know how big this place was. She just stood there astonished like a fool. She was a monster?
Suddenly, a strong wind blew, everything around her began to fall apart and the fog began to dissipate. Before she could see what was around, she woke up from the dream.
She found herself already soaked in a cold sweat on the bed. She took several deep breaths to calm down and then she noticed something different.
Why would the wind be the same as that in the dream? Even with the same force and the same coldness that made Gu Qiang feel her bones freezing.
She stood up and called for Gusu Liang, but nobody answered. Perhaps she was asleep.
Feeling helpless, she got off the bed and walked towards the window but sensed something wrong the moment she tried to close it.
There was nothing wrong with the wind coming through the window. What disturbed her was the person who stood outside of it.
She suddenly found this scene familiar. It seemed that long ago, someone was standing here as well, in the same place in front of her window.
Without thinking, she crept onto the ledge, jumped outside, and fell onto the ground. Then she quickly turned to look back at the window.
Had it been a skilled master who tried to take her life, he could have easily done it when she was sleeping. But it didn’t happen, which meant he was not a good fighter, or he had no interest to kill her.
She didn’t know why she would act like this. It seemed her body had been ready for this, like on impulse.
Or… Was it because she usually had done the same in the past?
Before she got back on her feet, a woman’s voice came from the darkness. It was cold and contained a touch of mockery in it. “Gu Qiang, you are still as same as ever. They all say you’ve lost your memory, and I almost believed that. But judging from your behaviors, you must be plotting something, right? Do you mind telling me about it?”
She had heard this voice for many times before but still couldn’t figure out who it was at the moment. “Who are you? Why are you standing by my window in the middle of the night? Want to have a chat with me?” asked Gu Qiang. She stood up, frowning, her eyes looking into the dark.
The woman smiled and walked out from the shadow. By the moonlight, Gu Qiang found that she was Sun Linhua, the woman who had been trapped in the water dungeon.
As instructed in the diary, she was the woman that must be killed. Why would she be here?
Gu Qiang insisted on killing her back then but was stopped by Gusu Liang. Otherwise, how could the woman still stand here intact? She should have been more ruthless.
At this moment, Gu Qiang thought she had to be more heartless next time, leaving no risks behind. She let go of Sun Linhua in the past, and now she had to pay the price.
“Very surprised, aren’t you? I am still alive!” said Sun Linhua as she moved two steps forward, exposing herself fully under the moonlight, proudly showing her reborn. She had successfully left the water dungeon and returned to the side of Shen Qianshan. For her, this was no different from getting a second chance of life.
