Chapter 134 Gu Zhihua Fell Sick
Prime Minister froze up; he had never expected that Gu Qiang would directly reject him, which made him even more furious. He gritted his teeth, “Are you trying to tell me what to do? How dare you! I really should teach you a lesson!” said Prime Minister Gu, breathing heavily, his knuckles whitened.
He seemed to want to say more. Not giving him the chance, Gu Qiang turned around and planned to leave, but was stopped by Ye, who gave the Prime Minister a reproachful look and dragged Gu Qiang back.
Ye’s hands were cold, not like that of a mother’s. Gu Qiang never wanted it, as she only expected such intimate behaviors from her mother, not the woman who wished her to die.
Shaking her off, Gu Qiang turned around. “Why do you want me back? Don’t waste my time if there is nothing important,” she said in a freezing voice.
Now that the capital was in chaos, she had so many things to do and couldn’t waste her time here.
Burning in rage, Prime Minister Gu wanted to keep finding fault with her but was stopped by Ye who suddenly burst into tears. “Qiang, I must tell you this, your sister got infected and has been in high temperature for a whole day. Huaian is a doctor, can you ask him to take a look at her?” cried Ye, with tears flowing down her face.
Then it suddenly occurred to Ye that last night, Gu Zhihua and Qing Luo wanted to go back to the Third Prince Mansion. After all, it was not appropriate for a married woman to stay in her parents’ house all day.
Who would have known that she got the disease after just one trip outside? Busy taking care of her burning daughter, Ye hadn’t had any sleep last night.
Gu Qiang smiled, now she understood why Ye was so anxious.
Not recovering from the shock of Gu Qiang’s rebellion, Prime Minister Gu still kept his straight face, trying to defend the last of his dignity, even though he really wanted Gu Qiang to help.
“It’s time to let that ungrateful boy back. I raised him up. How can he not help Zhihua in return?” said Prime Minister Gu.
“Then you’d better go to ask him yourself, father. I did not think he would reject you. You should have never kicked him out of the family, right? Yeah, as a prime minister, you shouldn’t have taken the court affairs as everything. Otherwise, once your family gets sick, you have no choice but to beg your deserted child for help. How pathetic!” said Gu Qiang.
After that, everybody fell in silence. This was the first time Gu Qiang spoke to Prime Minister Gu this way, which was no different from an insult.
Like she had expected, Prime Minister Gu exploded; he slapped on the table and shouted out, “What did you say? I really need to teach you a lesson! If you don’t change your attitude, I will get you out of the family as well!”
He thought Gu Qiang would be softened by his intimidation, but her face was as calm as usual. “Really? I don’t mind. I am totally okay with it if you promise that you will never beg me like how much you want my brother back for help. Besides, I admit that I have enjoyed a lot of privilege as the first-born lady in this family, but I’ve got more from the other title of mine, Infanta Luoping,” replied Gu Qiang.
Not knowing much about the truths, she had never spoken to her father in this manner before. But she had learned from the diary that she would come to an open break in relationship with them one day, then let it start from now.
Prime Minister’s face turned deathly pale; he opened his mouth but didn’t find any word to say.
Gu Qiang had grown into a lady now, but he still took her as a girl. If she had really been an ordinary lady, how could she find a way to get a title as Infanta?
Gu Qiang looked at Prime Minister Gu directly into his eyes, waiting for him to remove her from the family. But he didn’t utter a word, biting his lips.
“Prime Minister Gu, let me guess. Is it because I am still useful to you as the Infanta that you don’t want to kick me out of the family anymore?” said Gu Qiang, then she gave them a cold glance and prepared to leave.
With no time to bother about her grudge against her, Ye stood up and blocked her way. “Qiang, you can’t leave. Or what about Zhihua? She is your sister!” cried Ye, seizing Gu Qiang’s hand.
At this moment, Gu Qiang noticed the tears on her face and her weary and deep eyes. She was now as slim as a skeleton.
But so what? Ye was not her mother. She would not feel sorry for her even if she died.
“Think of a way yourself. I won’t beg you unless I really need your help one day. But before that, we owe nothing to each other.” After finishing that, Gu Qiang went back to her house.
As Prime Minister hadn’t kicked her out of the Gu Family, she remained the lady here and did not need to move out.
Ting Feng was airing out tea leaves in the yard, but she didn’t bid her a greeting like she usually did in the past, only looking at her with a hint in her eyes.
Gu Qiang suddenly understood what she meant. There must be some visitors here, or she wouldn’t have reacted this way.
Qingshui House, the bleakest place in the Prime Minister Mansion, now became a popular place where everyone wanted a visit. How interesting.
When she stepped into the inner hall, she saw a young man dressing in light blue quietly enjoying his tea at the table.
Not as unbridled as Bai Su, he was a well-behaved man with his action all straight and narrow.
But Gu Qiang didn’t know him.
“Who are you?” asked Gu Qiang, taking a seat on the opposite of him.
This was a good-looking man and was as gentle as a jade like all the southerners.
Putting down his teacup, the man took out a handkerchief and wiped his mouth. “Are you Qiang?” he asked Gu Qiang, with a touch of respect in his voice.
Not everyone could address her as Qiang. Usually, there were only two kinds of people calling her this way, those who she felt close to, and those who wanted to get close to her. Apparently, this man belonged to the second group.
Gu Qiang nodded, without saying anything.
“I am a relative of your mother, from the south. I am here to pay you a visit in particular. To be honest, it was your mother who invited me here, so please forgive me for being rude,” said the man, smiling.
When he was speaking, there was always a smile on his face. She had never seen a man that she felt no repulsion for no matter what he did.
But she was no longer a girl who hadn’t seen the world. “My mother died a dozen years ago, how could she introduce a man to me?” said Gu Qiang coldly.
She had come around about what was happening right now. He must be the guy mentioned by Ye last time, the southerner from her family. But she had never thought he would come so soon.
Why did Ye want her to marry so eagerly? Since when had she become the person in charge of this?
Apparently, the man got speechless by her words. He suppressed a smile and continued, “I mean my aunt, Ye. Isn’t she your mother?”
“Since you are a southerner, I don’t blame you for being rude. Ye is only my father’s concubine, not my mother, the true hostess of this family. Ye only got her place because my mother died very young!” said Gu Qiang impatiently, raising her eyes.
He must be joking! She was an Infanta! Since when Ye had become her mother?
The taller the tree, the stronger the wind. Nobody had ever cared about her when she was left out in the Qingshui House. Now that she was on the rise, all men gathered around her like flies.
The man looked quite awkward; he hadn’t expected to be rejected by Gu Qiang so abruptly. Ye told him that everything had been settled and he could directly discuss with Gu Qiang about the coming marriage, but now it turned out it was only his wishful thinking.
“I didn’t know what had happened between you and my aunt. Since you have no interest in this, I would like to take my leave. You can come to me if you are bored. I live right next to you,” said the man, standing up and preparing to leave.
Then he went out of the door without any hesitation, his servants followed him.
Gu Qiang gazed at his back, feeling so gloomed that she was about to explode. How could Ye still focus on her marriage while Gu Zhihua was seriously ill? What a stickybeak person.
“My lady, that man looks quite different. He knows what he is doing and is very rich. Don’t you want to give him a chance?” said Ting Feng, cleaning the cups.
Gu Qiang turned to her, looking a bit impatient. “Why don’t you take him?”
Knowing she had asked the wrong question, Ting Feng fell back in silence.
At dusk, Gusu Liang returned.
Not seeing each other for days, Ting Feng and Gusu Liang felt very happy and had a long chat in the outer room. Then Gusu Liang went inside.
“My lady, the man we sent to Tong An Medicine Shop is doing good. He is now helping Mr. Gu to work on the cure of the disease, which will be ended soon. Mr. Gu asked you not to be worried. He will see to it,” said Gusu Liang, taking a seat next to Gu Qiang.
Gusu Liang hadn’t returned until she sent the man to settle in as Gu Huaian’s assistant. Sensing a smell of wind and dust on her, Gu Qiang knew things wouldn’t have been as easy as what she described. There must have been more to it, but at least, the result was good.
Gusu Liang had a habit to hold all the unpleasant information, and Gu Qiang had gotten used to it.
“Besides, the man who visited here this afternoon is called Ye Mu, the first-born son of Ye’s brother, very rich. It is said he is not a bad person,” Gusu Liang continued.
