Closed Beta That Only I Played - Chapter 227
Chapter 227: Treasure Box (4)
It was almost like the myth grade accessory expansion charm.
So I couldn’t help but think it’s too precious for me to use it for Ice Field because I don’t know what skill I would acquire later.
Anyway, I came to such a conclusion, then penetrated into the vampire group using Blink, for it was just the beginning of my hunt.
The next day, I woke up in the morning and had breakfast with my mom and sister as usual.
And, as usual, I would have accessed the game right away by now.
But I didn’t because some people were coming to the Myongjin Shelter this morning.
I was supposed to welcome them on behalf of my dad.
Anyway, it was just past 9 o’clock in the morning when I heard quite a variety of noises from a distance. And soon they appeared.
Dozens of military trucks and tanks carrying soldiers appeared.
Their appearance reminded me of the conversation I had with my dad last night.
Inside the safe house of the Myongjin Guild in Rodon Castle last night.
While I was hunting in the Cunning Vampire Garrison late into the night, I received a secret message from my dad that I should come to the safe house for a brief meeting.
When I got there, my dad, brother, sister and Director Sok were already waiting for me.
As soon as I arrived, my dad said, “Tomorrow, a military unit will move to the Myongjin Shelter.”
“A military unit?”
I was a little surprised because the Myongjin Shelter itself had a loyal security troop who had been trained well for the past several years by the Myongjin Group. Besides, there were lots of guards with military experience in the group. Those who were selected to guard the Myongjin Shelter had no family dependents, and so the limited capacity Myongjin Shelter did not need to house more people. It was a cruel reality, of course.
That’s why I couldn’t help but be surprised by the arrival of a new military unit.
“Now almost everybody knows that what happened in Taj Mahal, India, was not simply an isolated incident. In particular, tens of thousands of monsters appeared at once in Argentina. Maybe even tomorrow, such a large group of monsters will appear in a big city.”
Of course, that could happen like my dad said.
But that wasn’t what I was worried about.
What was going through my head was ‘ Can I really trust the military unit coming to the Myongjin Shelter tomorrow?’
That bothered me a lot.
As if he read my mind, my dad opened his mouth again.
“So far, we have maintained friendly relations with our government because the current president will most likely go down as the last one in our history. We were on the same page to some extent, but our government is now getting greedy.”
“…”
Of course, I wasn’t stupid enough not to understand what he was talking about.
He continued, looking into my eyes quietly, “So, I want you to serve as the representative of the Myongjin Shelter for the time being.”
His request implied lots of things.
I knew that his request didn’t mean I would replace the job of the Myongjin Shelter’s current representative, Kilsan Lee.
Honestly, in terms of dealing with people, I’m not as competent as him who held several important positions within mYongjin and is reliable enough to take responsibility for the Myongjin Shelter, the last bastion of Myongjin.
But my dad must have chosen me as the temporary head of the shelter because I was better than Lee in some respects. And that was because of my power, of course.
As a matter of fact, my reality actualization rate is currently 28%.
This was much higher than I expected.
When I first achieved 21%, I thought I would stop there for some time. Given that the number of coins required per 1% actualization rate was 3,000 after I exceeded 21%, I thought it would take much longer to progress from there. But it seemed like someone in a high position had already reached level 1200.
And I was not merely content with my higher achievement rate.
The Myongjin Shelter already had space and equipment for various tests, and I occasionally checked my abilities there, for there was nothing more dumb than not knowing my own abilites and limits.
Was I strong enough to destroy a military tank?
Of course, I could smash a tank with Ice Ball.
In fact, I had already made a large hole in the steel plate as thick as a tank with Ice Bolt.
Moreover, I confirmed that when I used ice-type magic on the tank, any soldier inside, no matter how trained they were, would get frozen to death as well, because steel had a high thermal conductivity.
Of course, I didn’t test my attack power only because defensive abilities were more important in reality. As a matter of fact, almost everybody knew that just increasing the reality actualization rate alone did not mean that one would not die like in the game. In other words, no matter how high one’s reality actualization rate was, the game and reality were completely different from each other.
That’s why I also conducted a variety of tests with a rubber gun, the fastest and most reliable way.
Starting off with the lowest power, I gradually increased its power all the way to that of a rifle.
The test results were satisfactory.
“Alright. This is great.”
At that moment I thought it was really good that I chose stamina as the stat that would grow 100% together with Intellect.
Anyway, my dad told me I should display all my skills if need be.
So, when my father told me I should serve as the head of the Myongjin Shelter, I took it to mean that I should make the most use of my skills and abilities in contingencies.
And maybe there might occur a disturbance while I am serving as the chief here.
Of course, it’s my job to minimise any possible disturbance as much as possible.
“Okay, Dad,” I replied casually to my dad, for I was not immature enough to retort, ‘Why should I take responsibility? What have you done for me until now?”
Of course, when I was young, I refused some great opportunities due to feeling inferior to my brother and sister. Nonetheless, it was true that my family including my dad as well as the Myongjin Group gave me lots of opportunities along the way.
While I constantly refused those opportunities, I was afraid of cutting my ties with my family, so I constantly clung to them.
Anyway, in the end, it was my duty to take care of the Myongjin Shelter because I was competent enough to do so.
***
“Good morning. My name is Juyoung Hong, and I’m in charge of the Myongjin Shelter.”
I introduced myself to the generals and soldiers gathered at the shelter.
Their top leader was a three-star general.
Considering that a division commander had only two stars, his rank was almost that of the corps commander.
As such, I could realize how interested they were in this shelter.
Soldiers kept getting off from military trucks and tanks.
Few people put on the insignias of private, private first class, corporal, or sergeant.
Most of them had the ranks of staff sergeant, sergeant first class, master sergeant, second lieutenant, first lieutenant, or captain.
That meant that most of them were career soldiers, whether they were on short or long term duty.
‘Well, they are too professional…’
I had no choice but to subtly laugh at them because their intentions were so clear.
