Cinderella Innocent and Boss Charming - Chapter 89
Chapter 89 I’m Not Pitiful At All Because I Have You
Because Gu Nianbin felt sorry for that Du Xiaoxian had lost weight, he left work early and took the little girl to the supermarket. He bought a lot of food ingredients and cooked a rather sumptuous dinner at home.
Du Xiaoxian was in a good mood, and she also wanted to make Gu Nianbin happy, so she had three bowls of rice and one bowl of soup in total. She was so full that she started to hiccup without cease, feeling uncomfortable either seated or stood up. Gu Nianbin tried several methods to stop her burps, but none of them worked. Seeing that she walked back and forth in pain, President Gu decided to take her to the hospital without any explanation.
Du Xiaoxian didn’t know that they were going to the hospital. She thought Gu Nianbin was taking her for a ride. When they arrived at the hospital, she finally realized what happened and asked, “Brother…hic! What are we…hic…doing in the hospital? hic!”
“You can’t stop hiccupping, I want the doctor to give you a check.”
Hearing this, Du Xiaoxian became anxious. She had never heard of someone going to the hospital simply because he or she had hiccups. People would laugh out loud at her if they found out about this…
She refused to get out of the car. “I’m not…hic! Going! I’ll be…hic! Okay in a while…!”
They had already arrived at the hospital. How could she leave without seeing the doctor? Gu Nianbin got out of the car, walked around the head of the car and opened the door to pull Du Xiaoxian out. The little girl reached out both arms to hug the front seat tightly, shouting, “No! Hic! No! Hic! I’m not going…”
Gu Nianbin coaxed her, “Be a good girl, just let the doctor take a look. Perhaps it will stop right after. Isn’t it uncomfortable to hiccup like this? I feel uncomfortable just by hearing you hiccup.”
No matter what he said, Du Xiaoxian wouldn’t get out of the car. Going to the hospital just because she had hiccups was too embarrassing…
Failed to coax her, Gu Nianbin could only bend down and carry her out. Although Du Xiaoxian had some strength, she was still far weaker than Gu Nianbin, so she was easily carried out by him. She kept screaming even after she was already out of the car. Hearing Du Xiaoxian’s screaming, some people standing in the hall of the emergency department came out and watched by the door. They saw that Gu Nianbin was carrying Du Xiaoxian in his arms while the little girl kept screaming. The crowd did not know what had happened exactly, but they thought she was probably very ill to scream like that.
Du Xiaoxian became even shyer when she noticed the crowd at the door, and she whispered to Gu Nianbin as she hit him, “Let me down, quickly!”
Gu Nianbin answered, “I can let you down, but you must agree to see the doctor with me.”
Du Xiaoxian said, “I’m fine. I’m just hiccupping. Wait a minute!” She was stunned for a moment and laughed suddenly. “I’m okay now. The hiccupping stopped!”
Gu Nianbin looked at her and found the hiccupping really stopped as she said. He put her down with a smile and said, “I know how to stop you from hiccupping now. Next time you hiccup, just shout loudly.”
Du Xiaoxian thought for a moment and agreed with him. She said, “Then aren’t you going to let me down?”
Gu Nianbin said, “No need. Let’s go straight back.” He then bent down and put her back in the car. Then he went around the front of the car and got in. With a stamp on the accelerator, he drove the car out of the hospital gate and left the crowd puzzled.
One of the onlookers said, “Did those two people come to see the doctor? Why did they leave?”
Someone laughed. “That couple must be very sick to make such a scene in the hospital!”
The others seemed to agree and echoed, “Yes, very sick!”
Gu Nianbin thought since he had taken his little girl out, he did not want to go home right away and decided to take her for a ride.
The late autumn wind gushed into the car, making Du Xiaoxian’s hair dance in the air wildly and cover her eyes, so she put on the hat of her coat.
Gu Nianbin saw her movement in the rearview mirror and said, “Close the window if you’re cold.”
“I’m not cold, it’s just that the wind messed up my hair,” Du Xiaoxian said seriously.
Gu Nianbin laughed. “Except when you just finished combing your hair in the morning, when was your hair not messy?”
The estrangement between them had disappeared. Du Xiaoxian became vivacious again in front of Gu Nianbin. She reached out and ruffled Gu Nianbin’s hair. “Now your hair is messy, too,” she said.
Gu Nianbin took her naughty little hand and kissed it. “Don’t mess around. I’m driving.”
Hearing this, Du Xiaoxian withdrew her hand hurriedly. She was so happy that she forgot they were in a car.
Gu Nianbin drove the car through the bustling streets in the night, made a few turns and arrived at the riverside.
The lighting of the banks was very beautiful. Neon lights flickered on the tall buildings. Some of them were rows of light lighting up one by one from left to right, some were like ripples spreading outwards from the middle, some were shaped in butterflies of all sizes fluttering about, and some were colorful, blooming flowers… The river embankments were also decorated with colorful lighting, which was constantly flashing in different colors, dying the deep blue water multicolored and gorgeous. The street lamps on the distant bridge looked like a long string of night pearls, with each emitting a dazzling light, guiding the passing vehicles and pedestrians.
Du Xiaoxian had never seen such a beautiful scenery before, and she looked around in surprise and kept saying, “How beautiful! It’s really beautiful. There are so many lights… Wow! There are more of them over there. Brother, look at the top of that tower, it’s flashing in red and green light. It makes the sky glow with colors… And under the bridge over there, how come the bottom is also shining…”
Du Xiaoxian was looking at the lights while Gu Nianbin was looking at her. To him, neither the stars in the sky nor the florid artificial lighting in front of them was as beautiful as Du Xiaoxian’s eyes. Her eyes were as clear and bright as the lake water, but at the same time, they were also glistening in gorgeous colors. No matter how long he looked at them, it would never be enough. Her long and dense eyelashes fluttered from time to time like the wings of a dragonfly swept across the water surface swiftly, creating a misty halo.
“Are they beautiful?” Gu Nianbin asked.
“Yes!” Du Xiaoxian nodded heavily. Because of her excitement, her eyes became watery and therefore even shinier.
Gu Nianbin started the car again. “I’ll take you to a better place to see the lights.”
“Is there a better place than this?” Du Xiaoxian asked foolishly.
“Yes,” Gu Nianbin said, “there are still many sights in G City that you haven’t seen before. I’ll take you to all of those places in the future, OK?”
“Great.” Du Xiaoxian put her hand on his shoulder and rubbed it for him gently, which meant that she was very happy. Every time she lost control of the excitement in her heart but couldn’t express it, she would touch Gu Nianbin with her hand to express her joy.
Gu Nianbin curled his lips and smiled at her in the rearview mirror.
The better place Gu Nianbin talked about was on the mountain. It was a famous mountain in G City called Yuefeng Mountain, which was neither very tall nor dangerous. But the beautiful mountains and rivers formed an enchanting scenery, which would attract many visitors who would make the place lively every weekend.
Some rich men bought the land here and built villas, both in western and Chinese styles. The ancient Chinese-style eaves in the bamboo forest and the faintly revealed pure European-style white buildings among the trees didn’t destroy the aesthetic perception of the mountains, instead they injected a lot of vitality into the scenery. Gu Nianbin also had a villa here, which was originally built for his farther to nurture health. But Gu Guangxian thought it was inconvenient to climb up and down the mountain. Besides, the place was always bustling with people on weekends, so he preferred his ancestral house to this villa on the mountain. Gu Nianbin himself had not come much, so the villa was often empty.
Although there weren’t any people living here, Xiao Bonian had always sent people to clean it up and change the food storage, so that it wouldn’t be a problem at all even if Gu Nianbin suddenly decided to stay the night here.
The villa of the Gus was a small western-styled building that had two storeys. To be specific, it was in typical Spanish style. It had a neat layout with rooms arranged in picturesque disorder. It looked small and exquisite from the outside but commodious from inside. Du Xiaoxian crossed her arms and looked around while standing in the living room. Gu Nianbin took out two tins of green tea beverage from the kitchen and put them on the tea table casually. Then he hugged the little girl from behind and asked gently in her ear, “Is this place okay?”
This house was much more than just okay to Du Xiaoxian. All the things that belonged to Gu Nianbin were novel and beautiful in her eyes. Her horizon was constantly broadening by his surprises.
“Is this also your house?” Du Xiaoxian put her hands on top of Gu Nianbin’s big hands and asked him.
“Yeah, it was built three years ago.” Gu Nianbin let go of her hands and took a can of drinks for her. “Let’s go. I’ll show you the lights.”
Du Xiaoxian had completely forgotten about the lights. Hearing this, she remembered and followed him at once happily.
Gu Nianbin took her to the second floor where the balcony was. But the balcony was ridiculously large to be called a balcony, which was just a big room with glass fences all around. Inside were a soft mat, chairs and desks. There was a peculiar shaped lamp in the corner. The long metal pole was in a beautiful curve, at the end of which was a flower-shaped lampshade. When the lamp was turned on, it would glow in soft orange light, looking very much like a sunflower that had been bent under pressure.
Gu Nianbin pulled her to sit on the soft mat and pointed at the foot of the mountain. “Look over there.”
Du Xiaoxian had just finished sizing up the balcony, but before she could gasp in admiration, she was instantly stunned the moment she turned to look in the direction where he pointed.
There was an endless sea of lights, so bright and beautiful that even the stars in the sky seemed pale in comparison. It was only nine o’clock, but the lamplight of tens of thousands of families was well lit like a vast galaxy. The lights were like dazzling starlight, stretching as far as her gaze could reach. There was not much change in color, nor any beautiful patterns, but it was indescribably shocking as if thousands of stars had piled up in front of her.
Du Xiaoxian became speechless, and all she could do was watch quietly. Turned out that G city was so big, much bigger than she had imagined. Those lights that seemed to be so far away were actually still in G city.
The lively and bustling city on the other side of the glass was totally like another world. Du Xiaoxian curled up in Gu Nianbin’s embrace, with her face pressed against his chest, and she listened to the man’s vigorous heartbeat. She sighed with satisfaction. The world outside was so unimaginably big that it scared her.
But fortunately, Du Xiaoxian smiled because her world was right here. Gu Nianbin was her world.
Neither of them spoke. In the silent night, they could hear the loud sound of the wind blowing through the trees, one gust after another.
“Are you scared?” Gu Nianbin asked.
“No,” Du Xiaoxian said, “not at all. I used to walk in the mountains when I was young.”
“What were you doing in the mountains?”
Du Xiaoxian was silent for a while. She raised her head to look at the stars in the sky and answered very softly, “I went to see my mother.”
Gu Nianbin’s nose twitched. He hugged her tightly and sighed hoarsely, “You pitiful little thing.”
But Du Xiaoxian smiled and rubbed against his chest. “I’m not pitiful at all, because I have you.”
Gu Nianbin kissed her hair and said, “What if one day I were to leave you?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Du Xiaoxian said earnestly, “I’m already very satisfied to be able to stay by your side until that day comes.”
Hearing this, Gu Nianbin felt that he should be angry, but he really couldn’t. He just held her even tighter and kissed her gently…
