Chapter 360 Aren’t You Afraid that I’ll Hate You?

Du Xiaoxian called Gu Nianbin, but he did not pick up. Soon, Little Ding’s phone rang. Du Xiaoxian heard him say yes a few times before hanging up. She knew that it was Gu Nianbin.

Little Ding told her that Gu Nianbin asked her to go to the villa. If there were any issues, she could discuss them with him at noon when he went over.

Du Xiaoxian had no choice but to go with Little Ding to the villa.

The car spiraled up the mountain. Du Xiaoxian could see Ah Ling standing on the balcony from afar.

Ah Ling probably saw the car approaching because she turned and entered the house. When the car drove into the courtyard, Ah Ling stepped out to open the car door. When she saw that Du Xiaoxian was alone in the car, she was a little surprised. “Huh? Didn’t Niannian come with you?”

As expected, Gu Niannian was not here. The last bit of hope in Du Xiaoxian’s heart was shattered. She entered the room without a word.

Ah Ling looked at Little Ding in surprise. Little Ding shrugged his shoulders, indicating that he had no comment. Ah Ling was a smart person and had more or less guessed what was going on. In any case, Du Xiaoxian was in a daze. She sat when Ah Ling made her sit and drank the water when Ah Ling made her drink. Her eyes were focused straight on the road that led to the foot of the mountain.

When the sun rose to the highest point in the sky, a black shadow suddenly appeared on the road. It slowly climbed up and looked like a car. Du Xiaoxian stood up and squinted. At that moment, the sun was extremely strong. She was afraid that she was mistaken.

The shadow gradually approached, and there was the sound of an engine. It was Gu Nianbin returning to the villa.

Du Xiaoxian had sat on the balcony for the whole morning, waiting for Gu Nianbin to come back. When she saw the car drive into the courtyard, she wanted to go downstairs, but somehow, she stood in place.

Gu Nianbin got out of the car and looked up to see her. She was standing on the balcony, thin and delicate. Her light purple windbreaker made her look lovely. The wind blew past her black hair, revealing her fair neck. Under the sun, she was like a fair lily, but she was so dazzling at the same time. He could even see her dark pupils clearly. They were like the rarest black pearls in Tahiti.

Du Xiaoxian was looking at him as well. She looked sad but also angry. Her eyes were brave and fearless. She seemed to wear this gaze more and more often. Gu Nianbin lowered his eyes expressionlessly and slowly walked in.

He thought she would come down, so he sat in the hall and smoked a cigarette. However, Du Xiaoxian did not appear. He threw the cigarette butt away and walked upstairs. Du Xiaoxian was still standing on the balcony, motionless. Her thin figure revealed a sense of stubbornness.

He looked at her for a while, then finally said, “I heard you were looking for me?”

Du Xiaoxian turned around. Her clear, bright eyes made him suddenly look away. He walked to the balcony and sat down on a chair.

“Are you going to stop me from seeing Niannian from now on?” Perhaps it was because she hadn’t spoken for too long, her voice was hoarse when she opened her mouth to speak.

Gu Nianbin was stunned. He did not expect her to think that. A complicated emotion flashed through his eyes. He actually nodded. “It’s good that you know.”

“Why? What did I do wrong?”

Gu Nianbin crossed his legs and said slowly, “Come over and sit down. I’m getting dizzy watching you stand there.”

Since she was standing against the light, Gu Nianbin found it a little dazzling when he looked at her. Hence, Du Xiaoxian walked over and sat down.

“What did you do wrong? Do you really need me to tell you? Although you’re not a member of our family, you’re Niannian’s mother. You actually let a man come to our house. What will other people think of Niannian? And what will they think of the Gu family?”

“That’s nonsense, I didn’t do that.” Du Xiaoxian defended herself. “You were the one who invited Lu Haochen.”

“I invited him to show my magnanimity and to show that I don’t mind his presence, but he didn’t come because of my invitation. He came to see you. Am I right?”

Du Xiaoxian was speechless. Lu Haochen liked her and came all the way to G City for her. But what did this have to do with her? She did not reciprocate his feelings. How could she control where he chose to go?

She bit her lip and only managed to force out a sentence after a long time, “You’re determined to find fault with me so you’re going to point out endless problems!”

Gu Nianbin laughed out loud. The hearty laughter made Ah Ling and Little Ding exchange looks downstairs. They thought that the two of them would have a big fight upstairs. Why were they laughing?

Gu Nianbin laughed for a long time before he stopped. His eyes flashed. “As expected, you have been better at quarreling. So you don’t care what Lu Haochen wants to do and it has nothing to do with you? If you want to see Niannian, we can talk about it when he leaves!”

“I’ll go see him,” Du Xiaoxian said anxiously, “I’ll tell him to leave. I’ll tell him to leave this place immediately!”

“Is he so obedient to you?” Gu Nianbin asked coldly.

“If you let me see him, I’ll convince him.”

“Do you want to ask him to leave, or do you want to see him?” Gu Nianbin’s face darkened.

“You don’t trust me?” Du Xiaoxian asked.

“Do you think I can still trust you?” Gu Nianbin sneered.

Du Xiaoxian sighed dejectedly. Yes, she had tricked him so badly in the past that he no longer believed her!

“So, do I have to stay here and I’m not allowed to go anywhere?”

Gu Nianbin thought for a moment and said, “You can take a walk around the mountain, but you can’t go down the mountain.”

“Can’t you let Niannian come here? Just so that I can just take one look at her?” Du Xiaoxian begged him.

“No!” He coldly refused.

“Aren’t you afraid that I’ll hate you?” Du Xiaoxian looked at him quietly and suddenly asked.

The man smiled and said indifferently, “I don’t care!”

Footsteps could be heard on the stairs. Both of them fell silent. Ah Ling soon appeared by the door. “Young Master, Miss Du, it’s time for lunch.”

Du Xiaoxian sat still and did not move. “I ate too much in the morning, so I won’t be having lunch.” She was telling the truth. She ate two-thirds of the sumptuous breakfast in the hotel in the morning. She was not hungry at all now.

“Are you trying to show me how unhappy you are?” Gu Nianbin raised his eyebrows.

Du Xiaoxian didn’t want to be criticized, so she obediently went downstairs.

It was the first time she had a meal with Gu Nianbin since she returned. The atmosphere was a little strange. Neither of them spoke. Gu Nianbin was a son of a noble family, so he did not make a sound when he ate. As for Du Xiaoxian, it was probably because she was nervous, so she kept knocking her chopsticks or her spoon against the bowl unwittingly, making crisp sounds that broke the silent atmosphere.

She didn’t eat much and ate very slowly. Only when Gu Nianbin put down his chopsticks did she stop, because she didn’t want to give Gu Nianbin another reason to find fault with her.

Gu Nianbin put down the bowl and chopsticks before going upstairs. Du Xiaoxian did not want to go up, so she made herself a cup of hot tea and sat in the living room, where she drank it slowly.

Ah Ling was clearing up the dishes. Du Xiaoxian had nothing to do, so she went to the kitchen to help. However, she was driven out by Ah Ling. She had to go back to the living room to continue drinking her tea.

She was used to being busy, so to suddenly become idle, she found herself at a loss and did not know what to do. She was bored and turned on the TV, but she was absent-minded.

Ah Ling went upstairs and soon came down again. She returned to her own room. After a while, Ah Ling dragged a suitcase out of the room. Du Xiaoxian felt that something was wrong and asked quickly, “Ah Ling, where are you going with the suitcase?”

“Miss Du, I’m going back,” Ah Ling said with a smile.

Du Xiaoxian was momentarily stunned. “You’re going back? Then what about this place…”

“Don’t worry, Miss Du. This place has everything,” Ah Ling said, “If you need anything, you can call Uncle Xiao. He’ll deal with it.”

That was not what Du Xiaoxian meant. If Ah Ling left as well, wouldn’t she be the only one left on the mountain? She was not afraid. She was just curious. Would there be no one watching over her, then? Wasn’t Gu Nianbin afraid that she would sneak out? She would not go to see Lu Haochen but she could sneak home to see Niannian!

Ah Ling dragged her suitcase out. Du Xiaoxian walked her to the door and saw that Little Ding was putting her suitcase into the trunk of the car. He was probably going to send Ah Ling home first, then return to drive Gu Nianbin to work!

Du Xiaoxian stood at the door for a while to watch the car leave before she went back to the living room to watch TV. It was easy to feel sleepy if one sat down in the afternoon without moving. Du Xiaoxian watched TV for a while until she felt her eyelids becoming a little heavy. The feeling grew gradually until she couldn’t lift her eyelids anymore. She nestled into the sofa and casually picked up a pillow to hold in her arms. An advertisement was playing on the TV. The flashing images and exaggerated sounds were very lively. Du Xiaoxian slowly closed her eyes amid the noise.

She didn’t sleep for long. She felt as though she had just taken a short nap, but when she opened her eyes, she found that her shoes were off and she was covered with a thin blanket. It was Little Ding who returned to cover her with the blanket, right?

She glanced at the clock on the wall. It was five minutes past three. Gu Nianbin should have gone back to work by now. She was really the only one left in this house. Du Xiaoxian stretched, rubbed her eyes, and went upstairs.

She and Gu Niannian had been staying in the room across Gu Nianbin over the past few days. It was only after lunch yesterday that Gu Nianbin brought her and Gu Niannian down the mountain. However, she was the only one who returned this morning.

Du Xiaoxian smiled bitterly as she went upstairs. When she was a child, she stayed in a house all by herself as well. Time seemed to pass slowly, and she always felt lonely. After having Gu Niannian, she was glad that she would never be lonely again in this life. However, she never thought that she would have to live in an empty house by herself again!

She did not have anything right now. All she had was a lot of time to waste, so she might as well not do anything. She entered the room, kicked off her shoes, and lay down on the bed. She uncovered the blanket and fell asleep.

When she woke up again, the sunlight outside the window seemed a little dim. Du Xiaoxian picked up her phone and checked the time. It was half-past five. She had slept for another two and a half hours. Only when she slept did time pass quickly. However, now that she had napped for the entire afternoon, what was she going to do at night?

When she thought that she might not be able to fall asleep at night, she was a little distressed. She put on her shoes and went downstairs to make dinner for herself.

She made her footsteps light. Before she passed by the kitchen, she took a wine bottle from the wine cabinet and held it in her hand as she slowly approached the kitchen.
