Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 97
Chapter 97: The Mate Connection
Atticus’ POV:
I looked at Eloise in shock.
I never expected this to happen because I thought she would never avoid me.
Was my gut wrong?
She had never been like this.
She looked like she had been hungry for a long time and was trying her best to stuff cake into her mouth. Unfortunately, the little boy had taken it out of the trunk.
They were very well prepared.
“Eat slowly, don’t be in a hurry,” he said as he handed a bottle of water to Eloise.
I suddenly realized that I had never seen her like this. She had never shown me this kind of weakness.
The car started to move. She put down the blanket and put on her coat. At that moment, I saw the mark on her arm again.
Now I could be sure that this was a birthmark. Moreover, it was different from Lisa’s. Birthmarks and tattoos were differently colored, and they couldn’t appear the same on the werewolf’s skin.
In other words, Lisa was the one who was pretending to have a birthmark. No matter her purpose, it didn’t seem like a good thing to do.
What was going on? I recalled the warnings that Jude gave me. Now, it seemed that what he said might be right.
The birthmark was the basis of my search for my savior, but I suddenly realized that I might have found the wrong person, so I had wronged Eloise.
Perhaps the person who saved me back then was her? This idea subverted me.
“What’s wrong with you?” Eloise was looking at me as if she was looking at an idiot.
“I’m fine. I’m just thinking. I’ll investigate this thoroughly,” I answered her. My voice trembled. I hoped she didn’t hear me.
‘Soren is dealing with it. I think you saw it.”
“But no matter what, thank you for saving me.” She looked in the direction I was pointing, and her voice was a little hoarse.
She didn’t look at me when she spoke.
“I think you should be able to leave now. You know, we… ” She chewed as she pondered.
‘We can’t have too much contact. This is a serious problem.”
She was going to talk about the mate connection. I knew that, but I didn’t think we should…
I pressed her hands down and pressed her against the window. She blinked and looked at me, breathing on my face.
I didn’t care how she would react. I kissed her hard and realized I couldn’t leave her.
She pushed me away. The corners of her eyes were red, and her lips seemed even more swollen than before.
However, she didn’t reject me outright.
Before I could say anything, she quickly opened the door and pushed me out.
She didn’t say anything, and I suddenly realized that she might be unable to say a complete sentence. I looked at her through the door, but she just walked toward Soren and the others without looking back.
My heart felt as if it had been pierced by something.
“Are you going to tell her about your discovery?” My wolf asked in my mind.
“No, I can’t.” I sighed and got up from my seat.
In fact, I’d discussed a detailed plan with Soren. We had a plan to deal with this. However, I couldn’t tell her before I did it. It wasn’t just to prevent her from discovering any clues and treating me with an even worse attitude, but also to prevent her from doing anything beyond her ability.
‘What do you think about her?” My wolf asked.
‘Me? I only hope this won’t affect me.” I looked at her back. She had already walked into the apartment, and only Soren and the others were walking back.
I saw myself in the reflection of the window. Of course, I didn’t look too good either, but I didn’t think that was important anymore.
‘You ‘re lying.” My wolf sighed.
“I rather, you’re all lying. You’re blaming this on the mate connection. But you’ve all forgotten that without love, it can never be established..”
