Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 60
Chapter 60: A Sincere Invitation
Eloise’s POV:
I arrived a few minutes earlier at the restaurant where I had agreed to meet Soren.
Even though my initial intention was to have lunch here, I was still very nervous.
I knew I would hear some outrageous information today, but that was not the main point. I was more afraid of what Soren was about to tell me – why I had to go to the party.
As if he could tell that I was worried, Soren patted my shoulder.
“Don’t worry. Those things won’t be too strange. It’s just that I can’t explain it to you through text messages.”
I was also worried about what he said. Was there anything that couldn’t be discussed through chats?
“Perhaps he just wanted to analyze your expression more accurately.” My wolf suddenly commented.
“If it’s only through electronic devices, it’ll be difficult for him to understand what you want.”
“I hope so too. Otherwise, it would be too boring.”
We sat together and quietly waited for the tacos and drinks we ordered.
“I know that if I were a member of your family, I would be here. However, the problem now is that we still have to wait for the DNA test results.” I tried to make him understand all the points I was thinking about.
“That’s why I can’t be there.”
“Yes, but if you can be there on that day, we can provide you with more help,” he quickly replied.
“I mean, interpersonal relationships.”
I thought what he said was correct. Their family was worth a lot. Even though I didn’t think any of these assets belonged to me, knowing a reputable person in the industry would improve my life.
“Alright, what you said is worth considering.” I fiddled my cup uneasily. But this made him heave a sigh of relief.
I didn’t intend to reject him.
“Are you sure I should go to your family’s dinner party now? I don’t think I can be sure I’m a member of your family. This is a bit…”
“Don’t worry. It doesn’t matter. Just come. You’re not a member of our family, but you’re still an outstanding employee here, aren’t you?” he answered quickly.
“I know we can’t have anything more. I hope you can get everything you deserve.”
I was stunned because he guessed what I was thinking.
I used to fantasize about marrying him. However, I realized a long time ago that it wasn’t love. It was just a form of reliance and sustenance.
The only person who could make my heart beat faster and smile when I thought of him was Atticus, but now he had completely broken my heart.
“Alright. I’ll consider it. But first, I need to make some preparations,” I answered cautiously.
It didn’t sound like there was any reason for me to refuse.
A few minutes before the party started, I followed Soren into the hall. The other employees were in another corner, not with me, but I could see them.
I wanted to approach them, but Soren stopped me.
“I invited you here. You’re my plus one today,” he said softly.
“So, it’s better for you to stay here.”
I was starting to doubt what he was saying, but I admitted that this was the best reason for me to be standing here right now.
I only needed to say that I accepted his invitation to come here. I wouldn’t mention being his girlfriend or not because this didn’t matter that much.
In fact, from a certain perspective, he was still my subordinate. However, I couldn’t get used to him being so formal with me. I couldn’t get used to this at all. After all, we were still best friends before this.
I wanted to eat something before, but given this special situation, I thought it was better for me not to.
I followed him and continued to walk toward the dance floor. Even though he claimed that, people still came over to greet me.
I thought everyone here knew that my identity was also unusual when Soren treated me like the other heirs of the family.
“Ah, Sis! It’s great to see you again.” I heard someone say to me..
