Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 54
Chapter 54: I Will Lose Everything
Eloise’s POV:
I tried to sit up straight and selectively ignored what had happened. Atticus was so close to me only because of physical reasons. It wouldn’t happen again.
But who knew my laptop’s password? Could it be Atticus? No, I’d never used the laptop in front of him.
I covered my face in pain.
I’d change the password and make more backups next time. But now? I didn’t know what I should do.
If the company’s progress was delayed because of me, the consequences would be unimaginable. I’d lose this job. I’d even have to compensate the company, but I couldn’t afford it.
In that instant, countless possibilities flashed through my mind.
I called my colleagues and told them about this. Hanna’s voice almost broke my eardrums.
“What? You don’t have a backup?”
Of course, I had it, but those backups had disappeared. It was as if the computer had been infected with a virus and had almost lost its functions. The hard drives had the same problem, and I had no way of seeing the contents inside. “You know, I’ve always been using that account…”
She sighed, sounding very helpless.
“It’s not like there’s no other way. Do you remember that on your company laptop, there might be some…”
Of course, I remember those unfinished drafts.
But it was impossible to go to the office and take them out of the building. And even if I did, I wouldn’t be able to finish them in a few days.
This was difficult to accept.
Was I going to lose my first job like this? I was a little unwilling, but it seemed like there was no more room for negotiation.
“If you’re talking about these, then it’s obvious that Soren is better at them.” Atticus’ expression became twisted.
“Why don’t you call him for help?” he asked.
She had to admit that he was right. This was because Soren had been good at this since he was young.
Soren came into my ward ten minutes later. Behind him was a boy who looked like a programmer.
His name was Bishop, and he was Soren’s younger brother.
He was seriously working on the codes and didn’t even look at us.
“It’s a virus. Her laptop must have been connected to some network before. “But …” Bishop frowned.
But where was that? I tried to recall. I rarely used this laptop to connect to the public network. I’d only connected to Atticus’ and the office’s networks, so these were the two places where the problem lay.
I suspected either of them would be disrespectful to the other, so I chose to shut my mouth and not talk about it.
However, they had noticed it.
“Alright, so can you find out who did this?” Atticus quickly asked.
“It’s only a matter of time, but we’ll be able to find out.” There was still some confidence in his voice.
“This virus isn’t that complicated.”
“So you’re saying that someone planted a virus on Eloise’s computer, but you don’t know who it is yet?” Atticus asked while looking at me.
“I’ll go back and check my home’s network. After all, I need to give you an answer.”
Then, he left the room.
The room fell into silence again.
“I’m sorry, Soren. I… “I failed to live up to their expectations.
“No, that’s another matter, you know. I’ve added some new things recently. In this case, you don’t have to deliver your portion so quickly.
In other words, the part I was in charge of didn’t have to be submitted now.
“A portion of the contents of the USB drive has been restored. It’s impossible that the rest can’t be retrieved. You can see these half-drawn drafts, but because of this virus, they probably can’t continue to use them.”
I understood how big of a risk I would be in if these things were to be leaked out. Therefore, I could only continue to seek inspiration and work on new pieces. This was what I should do.
However, I was afraid that it was too late for that..
