Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 52
Chapter 52: His Purpose
Eloise’s POV:
Atticus was in my room again. He stood there like an emotionless tree stump.
He stared at me like an owl waiting for its prey. He had been in this state for dozens of minutes, making me very uncomfortable. However, I had no reason to drive him away. After all, I was lying here now because of him.
Oh Moon Goddess, it was him again! It was as if all my bad luck was related to him. I didn’t want to see him again.
I was planning to leave the hospital, but I decided to pretend I was very sick because he was still here.
I even coughed and slowly opened my eyes in pain. I didn’t think I’d ever be as good at acting as I did now.
But he just sat there without making a sound.
“If you don’t think those drugs can completely change her current condition, I’m willing to go to that pack again for her,” I said helplessly.
“But you don’t have to try to scare me to death. This won’t get her more.”
I tried to make concessions, but no matter what, no one could extract my bone marrow.
Atticus suddenly laughed. I had no choice but to sit up straight and continue to look at him.
He pointed at my chest.
“Do you think you can survive if you go there now? Even if you were healthy, you wouldn’t be able to last long enough to take those mushrooms away from those monsters.”
I had to admit that he was right. If I went to that area now, I might die in that tree hole, and there was no way to get out.
This time, I didn’t want to argue with him anymore. I wanted to hear what he had to say.
Seeing that I had calmed down, Atticus sighed.
“Don’t worry. I’ll try my best not to let her bother you. I’ll get her to take those drugs first. After all, she’s been using that all the time, and it’s not good for you to be in such a condition.”
“I agree.” I stared at him.
“So, can you leave now?”
“Of course not, because I don’t want to.” He continued to sit down.
I couldn’t drive him away, so I could only keep sighing. What I needed to do now was to continue my work, but Soren didn’t want me to leave now.
Atticus seemed to understand what I was saying. He just looked at me as if he was thinking about something.
The atmosphere made me feel very sad…
I’d asked him to deliver the laptop to me. I was planning to continue working here, but now that Atticus had seen me, I had nothing to say.
“To prevent you from going back on your word and filing a lawsuit against me in the future, I want to save more money. I think as the great Alpha, you don’t have any objections to this, do you?” I waved at him.
“Of course not. I’m happy to see you choose to make money on your own instead of relying on others. At least this proves that you’re working hard to live, right?”
Although he sounded sincere, it was hard for me not to suspect that he had other thoughts. After all, he had almost no integrity toward me. He took my backpack from Chloe and put it in my hand.
“No, you don’t have to do it. I think I can do it…”
I tried to defend myself, but I still took the laptop and sketchbook from him.
“Actually, these things were left there, but it was Atticus who sent them back,” Chloe explained.
I followed her gaze and looked at Atticus. I owed him a favor, and the simplest way to do that was to give him money, but would he accept it?
He didn’t even look at me.
“Do you think I need your money?” He even looked like he was smiling.
“You must be thinking of using money to solve this problem.”
Alright, he was right. My money was nothing to him. Even if I inherited that family’s business, my assets were incomparable to his.
But that was not a reason for him to brush me off like this.
“You don’t look like you’re here for money but for your life.” I paused for a moment before quickly replying.
Wait a minute! I suddenly realized that I wouldn’t even be in this trouble if it wasn’t for him if it wasn’t for him. I should’ve returned to the company with Hanna.
So, this was all his fault. I wouldn’t forget this..
