Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: You’re Here For Her
Eloise’s POV:
“They want to invite you to the bonfire party tomorrow night.”
Atticus was sitting not far from me. Even now that I knew he was so badly injured, I didn’t want to have any more contact with him.
I had to respond to that, so I looked up helplessly.
“Then, I’ll go. Do you need me to prepare anything?”
He seemed surprised by what I said, but he soon calmed down.
“There is no need. They said you only need to go over. However, they also hope you can take a photo for them.”
“Of course.” I thought about the children. Of course, they wished to have photos but didn’t dare to make it so obvious.
“When are you coming back to the pack?” he suddenly asked.
“I meant just for a visit. Not to come back and stay.”
“Is something wrong?” I turned around to look at him.
“Lisa misses you very much.”
If he couldn’t find the right reason, I’d rather he didn’t speak now.
“Right,” I casually replied.
“When I’m happy.”
I’d rather he didn’t remember to mention this to me. I also didn’t want him to keep mentioning the woman to me. If it weren’t for Lisa, I wouldn’t have to live like this.
It didn’t matter if he was my mate because we could also live a peaceful life or simply break off relations when we couldn’t stand each other anymore,
Everything else instead of facing such an awkward situation.
“She’s always been thinking about you, so you don’t have to hate her so much.
He still didn’t understand how things had come to this. I sighed.
“Didn’t you always want to end our spousal relationship?” Atticus looked at me. This time, he took out a book from his backpack. “The method written on it might be…”
I took the book.
The book recorded many ancient spells, and they were preserved in this pack.
However, the first part was about treating werewolf diseases related to Lisa’s condition.
In other words, he probably had a deeper reason for choosing these items.
It was hard not to be angry about this matter. After all, even now, under such circumstances, he was still ignoring my feelings and trying his best to mention Lisa to me…
“What’s written here has nothing to do with me. It’s only used to treat illnesses.”
I said as calmly as I could.
If he could state that this thing was related to Lisa, I might feel a little more relaxed now.
But when he said that, I felt helpless.
At that moment, I heard a commotion outside. Someone was urging a child to go home.
“You’re… “He looked at me worriedly.
“I was just thinking about my parents,” I whispered. Only then did I realize that my voice was a little choked.
My parents passed away when I was very young. This was also the reason my uncle raised me.
However, under such circumstances, I still didn’t have much of a relationship with their family. The main reason for this was that they only treated me like a servant.
“I’m very sorry.”
Atticus seemed apologetic, which was a rare sight.
“This has nothing to do with you. There’s no need to be like this.”
I didn’t want to vent my anger on him.
After all, my parents died in an accident. So I no longer feel sad about it.
I read the message on his phone. My sister was still very close to him.
Of course, they should be here. After I divorced, she was the best candidate as Atticus’ mate.
There was no room for discussion.
He seemed to want to refute something but lost his strength and fell onto the haystack. At this moment, I wanted to say that he deserved it, but I couldn’t say it no matter what.
This must be the effect of the mate connection. I sighed helplessly.
“I’ll return all the things I owe you,” he said weakly.
“Fine, but that’s not important now.”
I thought so, but I didn’t say it. I couldn’t say anything watching him lying there pitifully..
