Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 37
Chapter 37: The Accident
Eloise’s POV:
When Hanna and I arrived downstairs, Atticus was already there.
Of course, he had the right to do so. After all, he did spend money to book the same tour guide as us.
I pulled my clothes closer to my body. When I saw him, I felt cold all over.
“If you’re ready, we can set off,” the guide said seriously.
“Do you all remember what I said before?”
Of course. She had reminded him that he needed to bring enough warm clothes, food, and water when we went up the mountain. This was all out of safety considerations.
And most importantly, no one could be left behind. The consequences of being left behind on the mountain were almost fatal.
At this time of the day, the weather was still considered cool. So we followed the route that we’d already chosen up the mountain.
The sun rose faster than we could move, and the scenery on the mountain changed drastically.
“I want to reach the top of the mountain as soon as possible,” Hanna said from behind me.
“The weather is great. I hope we can take more photos.” Her expression was almost pleading.
“There is indeed a shortcut, but it’s too dangerous. Are you sure you want to go there from here?” The guide’s expression changed.
I didn’t want to reject her. So, I suppressed my emotions and looked at Atticus.
“It’s up to you guys to decide. I’m fine with anything.” Atticus turned to look at the guide.
“Alright, this is your decision. I’ll do my best to be mindful of your safety.” In the end, the guide gave up on dissuading Hanna.
While we were discussing, a strange sound came from the forest.
I turned around and saw a pair of eyes reflecting the light.
“Watch out!” I shouted.
However, the brown bear pounced at her at extreme speed.
“No! Ah!” Hanna screamed in fear. I pushed her down to the ground and saved her from a disaster.
Atticus rushed forward and pushed the bear away. However, he couldn’t escape either.
He rolled down the slope with the bear.
I felt like my heart was about to stop beating.
If he were to die now, I would be devastated.
“He’ll be fine. He’s a werewolf alpha, after all,” my wolf consoled me.
“Yes, of course, I know. But…” I held my head in pain.
“I still can’t accept this fact.”
No matter the reason, I didn’t want him to get hurt.
“I’ll go find him. You guys go back the way you came.” Then, the guide began to organize our next steps.
“No, I’ll go find him.” I stopped her.
“If we lose the temperature, it will be hazardous.” I tried my best to find a reasonable excuse.
“That’s why I’m going to look for him.”
“But, you’re just a… “Her expression showed her worry.
“Don’t worry, I’ll protect myself,” I promised her.
The guide sighed in the end. She looked at the two people who were still following her.
They were humans, and she could not abandon them. Therefore, this arrangement was indeed the most appropriate. As a werewolf, my sense of smell was much more sensitive. So, naturally, I have a higher chance of finding Atticus.
“I wish you good luck.” She looked at me.
I nodded and quickly slid in the direction he fell.
Soon, I saw his backpack. He had fallen onto a small platform on the cliff.
He was lying at the cliffs bottom, but he didn’t seem seriously injured. However, the gloves were originally wrapped around his wounds had been torn open, and the wounds left by the silver items were still bleeding.
If this continued, he would indeed be in danger.
“Atticus! Atticus, Hey!” I squatted in front of him and patted his face hard.
“Why are you here?” He was even a little frightened. I understood that he didn’t want me close to him.
It just so happened that I felt the same.
I tried to put my hand away from his skin, but I could still smell his scent. I tried my best to hold my breath, letting my body completely release itself from his influence.
His condition didn’t seem to be much better than mine, and his wound had distracted him. But from the blue veins showing on his neck, I didn’t think he was having a good time.
“Atticus?” I called out to him again..
