Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 33
Chapter 33: An Opportunity
Eloise’s POV:
By the time I reached the apartment, the sun was already up. This meant I wouldn’t have to sleep for the entire night.
“This is great.” I yawned as I pushed the door open.
The attacker at the ball had run away. The Stone Pack’s Alpha said he would continue investigating this, but we all knew it was difficult to get to the bottom of this, just like Lisa’s car accident that year.
Despite Atticus trying his best to investigate, he still couldn’t find the killer.
The biggest victim of the attack was the heir, who had just turned eighteen. This was supposed to be his coming-of-age ceremony, but now he had to apologize to the guests.
But that wasn’t his fault, and it had nothing to do with me.
This had nothing to do with me from the moment I received the money. What I had to do next was to continue working.
It was possible that I wouldn’t have any contact with the pack from today onward
When I opened the apartment door, I saw Chloe sitting at the dressing table, putting on a face mask. She threw herself at me and hugged me when she saw me return.
“You’re finally back. I was so worried about you, but it seems things went smoothly, right?”
“I guess so, but I’ve also run into trouble.” I sighed.
I still felt a little shaken by the situation I encountered.
That silver dagger would have taken my life if I wasn’t a half-beast. Even a simple touch could seriously injure the werewolf.
“So you’ve forgiven him? Otherwise, you wouldn’t have followed him to such an event.” She looked surprised at me as she wiped the water from her hair.
Oh, Moon Goddess, why would she think this way?
“Of course not. It’s not that easy.” I threw my bag on the sofa and kicked off my high heels.
This thing was torturing me.
“Compared to this, I’m more concerned about my work.”
It would be great if I could produce a better painting. That way, I could earn more money and even go to a better company…
“Alright,” she said. She looked at me worriedly. She looked like she didn’t believe me at all.
An hour later, I entered the building with a cup of coffee. I didn’t sleep at all, but with the help of the drink, I didn’t feel tired.
There were many gift boxes in the hall, and the staff distributed them to every passing employee. So even though I didn’t know what was inside, I was still very happy when I received it.
“This is so delightful. What’s inside?” I heard the people around me discussing them.
“I heard that it’s a gift from the Hil Pack.” “It must be because of the amusement park!”
“That’s true, but it must be for the future Luna…”
Alright, I knew it was because of Lisa. Atticus treated me so well yesterday only because we were in that environment. I shouldn’t have had any expectations of him.
I lowered my head to prevent them from seeing my face. Almost at the same time, I began to cry. After all, he was still my mate, and this affected me.
“Eloise?” I heard someone calling me.
I tried my best to look at that person politely, but I ended up dashing into the bathroom.
Although my divorce from Atticus was almost inevitable, I still felt sad when I heard about it.
He loved Lisa so much that it made me feel like I didn’t need to be there.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror. Due to my crying and exhaustion, I looked really haggard. This made me not look like someone who was here to work.
Just as I picked up my compact powder, the door to the bathroom opened.
“Are you here to ask me why I’m crying?” I turned to look at the girl behind me.
“What? Of course not. I’m not that bored. I just wanted to tell you that you have to go on a business trip,” Hanna exclaimed.
“Do you still remember the gathering at the Green Mountain Pack?”
It was an ancient pack hidden in the mountains. There were still some mysterious traditions that we needed to understand.
As a werewolf employee, I was naturally arranged to participate in such activities.
Nothing else could make me happier than staying away from the Hil Pack.
“Sure, I’ll definitely go,” I replied happily..
