Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 32
Chapter 32: You Cannot Hurt Her
Atticus’ POV:
I understood that I had no other choice but to get Eloise to agree.
The scandal between Lisa and I had been widely spread. The best way to solve this problem was to prove that Eloise and I were still very close, at least to the extent that we could attend this event together.
“We have a deal,” I said through gritted teeth.
“However, the doctor just said you will recover faster with your mate by your side. Is that true?” Eloise looked at me, her eyes filled with curiosity.
No matter what, my arm didn’t hurt as much as before. However, I didn’t think there was a need for her to know about this. So, I just kept silent and didn’t answer her.
“Alright, Jude, take her to look at the clothes. I don’t want to see her dressed like this at the banquet. It’s too strange.” I called for Jude and sent her away.
By the time Eloise and I arrived at the Stone Pack territory, the sky had already darkened. Even though we hadn’t reached the building where the banquet was, I could hear the noise of the werewolves who had just reached adulthood.
“If you don’t want to do anything, just stand there.” I turned to look at her.
My arms and chest were still in pain, and I didn’t have the strength to maintain a decent smile.
She seemed frightened by the change in my expression and immediately took a step back. “That’s great, I don’t know how to dance,” Eloise said in a low voice. She then looked up at me.
“If you think this is an excuse, I can’t do anything about it.”
Looking at her expression, I suddenly thought she was telling the truth.
“If you don’t mind, I can teach you now.”
She looked at me in disbelief but still put her hand on mine.
We stepped onto the dance floor. She didn’t know how to dance, but she tried her best to follow me.
“I can see that you’re a very motivated student.” I seriously evaluated.
“When you’re not annoying, you also do very well,” she replied in a low voice.
When the song reached its climax, the people around us turned in circles with their dance partners. She looked at me, clumsily learning the movements of those people. However, this caused her to crash into my arms.
The strong fragrance of flowers and the smell of fruits on her body made me addicted to it. I even wanted to kiss her lips. But I knew that it was impossible. We’d never be like that again.
A burst of silver light flashed, and it got closer and closer to me.
“Guys!” I shouted.
But it was too late. The man with the dagger was already too close, and the ladies around him were already screaming. The entire venue was filled with wailing.
Eloise rushed forward and bravely extended her hand, stabbing the dagger into the attacker’s arm.
Although she had a wolf now, she was still a half-wolf, which meant it was almost impossible for silver items to hurt her. Her appearance would be very special in a ball where only werewolves were present.
She was the only one who could do this.
The man swung his arm at Eloise.
He couldn’t… !
I wouldn’t allow anyone to hurt her. After all, she was still a member of my pack! I chased him, and when he jumped onto the roof, I successfully pressed him against the fence.
“Who sent you here?” I held the man’s neck tightly.
“Would you believe it?” The man lowered his voice and asked with a smile.
A loud sound rang in my ears. The man seemed to have been shot, and a large amount of blood spurted out of his chest. He fell off the edge.
No! He couldn’t die here!
I wanted to catch him, but it was too late. He fell directly.
A blood-colored paint bag fell out of his chest. He landed on the ground, transformed into his wolf form, and ran toward the forest’s depths.
I stood rooted to the ground. Even when the guards appeared by my side, I still hadn’t completely recovered from my stupor.
I’d seen that man at Lisa and Eloise’s Field Pack..
