Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 25
Chapter 25: The Price
Eloise’s POV:
The ear-piercing sound of the phone’s ringtone pulled me out of my dream. In the dream, I was eating my favorite dessert. I couldn’t accept such a big difference. I wasn’t feeling my best when I answered.
“Hello, who’s this?”
The person on the other end of the phone only coughed a few times. He was obviously frightened by my tone.
That tone was all too familiar.
I took a closer look at the number, and it was from Jude. If there was nothing, he wouldn’t come to me.
But why was he contacting me now?
I felt it was strange and quickly got out of bed. I was too nervous.
“I’m sorry, Jude. I shouldn’t have spoken to you like this,” I said sincerely. When I was still living in Atticus’ pack, he provided me with much help. Even if I didn’t want to talk to Atticus, I had to answer him.
“That’s fine,” Jude replied happily.
“Good morning, Eloise. I’m sorry to disturb you so early, but we really don’t have a better way to deal with this.
This piqued my interest.
“Is there anything I can help you with?”
“You might be surprised to hear this, but don’t be too surprised.” There was even a hint of fear in his voice.
Without saying a word, Chloe quietly pushed the door open and walked in. I thought I must have woken her up, but I thought she needed to know about this.
So, I didn’t mind if she continued to listen in.
But, what else could make me feel surprised? Perhaps if Atticus came to me and apologized.
There was a piercing noise on the other end of the phone, followed by Atticus’ voice. This made my ears hurt.
“I need a female companion to attend the event tomorrow night, so I hope you can come here before 6 p.m. tomorrow. If you need clothes, you can go directly to this store. Someone will serve you there.
While he was speaking, I saw two messages appear on my phone.
“Wait a minute, is there something wrong with my brain or yours? What makes you think I’ll follow your orders?” I finally found an opening in the conversation.
Didn’t he feel anything about what had happened before? Moreover, he had the guts to ask me to accompany him to such an event?
“I can reward you for accompanying me to this event. I don’t think your current sala1Y can afford your current living expenses.” He paused. There was an obvious angry voice on the other end of the phone.
“You live in an apartment in the city center?”
“You’re right.” I gritted my teeth.
His reason made me angry. What right did he have to investigate me? That wasn’t something he should know.
“It’s impossible that he went without a female companion. Also, it’s impossible that Lisa accompanied him here,” my wolf warned me.
“Yes, her current condition wouldn’t allow her to,” I quickly replied.
Not only that, but I was also Atticus’ mate. He made the right choice by choosing me.
But I didn’t want anything to do with someone like him. I’d had enough of that kind of life.
“No, it’s not entirely like that… But, alright, I can’t convince you.” The wolf sighed and stopped talking.
I wanted to reject him, but I still thought it was better not to anger him. I needed to think about the countermeasures carefully.
Something was shaking in front of me, and I had to raise my head. A huge display screen was swaying left and right before me, and Chloe was holding it. “Rent.” The display screen displayed a rolling line of words.
“We need money.”
I knew what she meant.
Chloe didn’t live here before, but I rented this place because I was moving here. The cost of the place was also incomparable to the past.
If we could spend some money on rent, our lives would be much better.
“Of course, you can, but you must pay a deposit first.” I tried my best to sound calm.
“I think the pack’s great Alpha wouldn’t mind this?”
With my current relationship with him, I didn’t have to say anything else to him..
